How exactly is night racing and weather "falling behind the pack" what pack exactly has both these things? And thats only two of the features we know so far, pull your foot out of your arse and get with the program.

Burnout Paradise for one.

24hours LeMans on the Deamcast had both of those things dynamically. That was in 1999 by the way.

Is Nascar any good, I mean AI wise. I am always up to try something new.

No one interested in codies F1 then?

You aren't seriously comparing a Dreamcast game to GT5 are you? I mean seriously, thats hardly the current "pack" now is it? Same goes for Burnout, how the hell can you compare Burnout to Gran Turismo ? And as for GTA, I assume that was sarcastic, I hope !

You asked for a comparison. Burnout is current gen though and grandtheft auto.

A game in 1999 had the features that are being touted as "new" in 2010. At least in my opinion if a game has similar features they are comparable. You can argue all you want that they aren't but really it just shows you have no comeback.

You also must be new to the sim community since basically every game if it's good enough is the "current pack". There are still a good number of people that play Grand Prix Legends and that was released in 1998.

You are just....ridiculous.

TOCA 3 isn't so old, it's only about 3 years old. It was on the PS2, PSP, PC and Mac.

I remember Toca 2 great game for it's time. Now there's a series due the next gen treatment.

^ Kaz seems to have a soft spot for Americans-NASCAR, IRL and damge. GT needs more Euro racing-BTCC is the most exciting and action packed motorsport there is

I've been watching BTCC on speed channel for the past 2 weeks and honestly, I can't agree with you. It's not boring but if this is as exciting as it gets, racing is in trouble.

Why does everyone omit the "He says laughing" from the answer he gave?

It's all about realism, frankly PD is falling behind the pack when it comes to features and basic things that real cars do.

Just getting back to your original point, what features and basic things exactly are you talking about? Just curious.

And Terronium, you call me rdiculous, yet you are the one who compared Gran Turismo to Burnout Paradise, LOL

The way I see it, the "next gen" thing is only about the graphics.... resolution, refresh rate, anti-aliasing, light sourcing, etc...

This makes the product look fantastic - but has little or nothing to do with the fidelity of the simulation.

But, you don't need next gen graphics to model whether a wheel is rotating or locked. Sims from 15 or even 20 years ago had the maths sorted to model complex simulation scenarios.

For KY to suggest that skidmarks, or any other "trivial" issue can't be modelled within the time, budget or technological constraints, is, frankly, laughable.

I don't agree touring cars were a more exciting time, in the 60's, 70's & 80's eras.I wouldn't be suprised if it's the same in the 50's.It was for F1 anyway & thereafter.

My point was things like Damage and yes skid marks and reverse lights. Sure you don't need them, but they are sort of the racing equivalent to a garnish for food. Yes it serves no purpose but appearance but it adds that little touch.

As for your Terronium comment. What exactly do you define as the "current pack"? Because we gave you 3 perfect examples yet they weren't good enough. You said no games have weather and night racing and all of them do.

Grand theft auto too.

You are seriously putting GTA as a comparison to Gran Turismo? You do realise Gran Turismo is a driving game? GTA on the other hand, is a game where you shoot people and can hijack cars, trucks, fire engines, ambulances, helicopters, see where I'm going with this?

If you're really that dense as to disregard examples given to something you said/asked for, you deserve to be in politics.

Are people really this bored? Really? Don't y'all have better things to do than to look at GT5 just to pick bones? If those other games had weather and day/night then why don't you just go play those and stfu? YOu play GT because whatever is in GT is more or less perfected and it destroys any comparable features in other game. That's why you play GT, what do you want it to do so it leads the pack? Cuz I saw a whole lotta bitching about leading features like the GPS and 3D stuff.

What about the more accurate physics models possible, or the much more accurate collision detection? And what about more accurately modelled higher resolution track surfaces for the physics model to use too?

Arguably grand theft auto could be regarded as the real driving simulator with pedestrians, traffic lights, brake lights, traffic flow, indicators and radio stations. And people trying to rob your car.

There's really no need to stoop to personal insults now is there, Mr. Keyboard Warrior. The way I see it, a fair comparison would be to a current gen "racing game", let me think, maybe Forza 3 ? It certainly makes bold claims as being the predecessor to Gran Turismo.

I wouldn't expect someone to compare Grand Theft Auto to a racing game, I've played many racing games on consoles that had weather etc, but none of them were anywhere near the level of Gran Turismo, so how about we stick to comparing apples to apples eh? Any more "insults" for me? I can hardly wait.
