The fact of the matter is, we are not PD. The only productive thing we can do is a work around. You can post here, but you're HOPING someone from PD MIGHT read it, and IF they agree, something MAY change. Screw hope, might, if, may and any other word of uncertainty. I'm suggesting a way to fix it NOW.

Please provide the source that you're using to support the unspoken, but unavoidably necessary, assumption you have that the people wishing for the opportunity to easily do a standing start are somehow claiming that the work-around isn't possible.

If you can't provide a source for that implicit assumption in your reasoning, you're logically forced to accept the fact that it's possible both to prefer an alternate option to the current setup and still deal with things as they are now.

Yes, I do thinks its lazy. People rather cry and complain until someones else does something instead of making it work themselves. If that's not lazy...

It's a rational trade-off based on the value of the end result. For many people, the "value" of having a lap time comparable to Top Gear is not worth the "cost" of meticulously lining the car up with a by-guess-and-by-gosh approximation of the proper start line.

This is a video game, not a high-precision operation. I'm fine being fiddly and meticulous about setting the valve lash for the solid lifters on my motorcycle because there's actually a worthwhile payoff. I'm not terribly interested in guestimating the proper starting point for a lap on a video game. It's just not important enough for me to bother with it. If the standing start were incorporated into the game, that would make it easy enough that I'd muck about with the timed laps. As it is, well, a guy I used to work with would say that the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

The people suggesting that having a standing start option would be nice are simply stating just that: It would be nice. They aren't saying that the work-around is "too hard", they're just saying that they'd prefer it if the game could handle it. We know the game can manage standing starts (you can choose a standing start if you use the TGTT for an online race). There's no effort involved in putting the issue out there in hopes that maybe PD will implement a change in the next patch. Raising the issue has no cost at all, so why not?

PS: Anytime someone makes a personal, off topic shot, I feel like you know I'm right and your running out of points to defend your topic.

Kind of like when someone calls people "lazy" because they have suggested a better way of doing things?

Who said it was impossible? My gripe is no one WANTS to do it themselves, they just want PD to do it for them. I can provide a source for that here

Thats the difference between you and I. I'm not a hope/wish type person, if something isn't the way I like it and I have a means and a way, I'm going to fix it, not hope someone else does it. I don't mind putting forth effort to get something to work the way I want it to.

Kind of like when someone calls people "lazy" because they have suggested a better way of doing things?

I never called anyone lazy personally. I said PEOPLE. Dude specifically said "I hope YOU are not..." and "YOU are so ignorant." There is a difference. I think you just here to pick an e-fight.

Let me break it down as simply as possible.

Complaining on GTP = nothing, maybe something in the future

Stopping at the line = something, and you can definitely do it right now.

Notice how I did that without calling any names or trying anyone's intelligence.

Your argument that people who wish PD would provide an easier way are lazy presupposes that they cannot do it your way. Logically that's a required presupposition, even though you don't say it.

Unspoken premises in a logical argument are no less fundamental simply because you don't realise that such premises are there. Without the a-priori assumption that those who desire PD to implement a standing start are claiming the work-around doesn't work, your argument is logically inconsistent. If you don't understand this, there's really no further discourse possible on this point.

You clearly have not read my post then. I don't want the standing start option much at all. Frankly, it's not even a blip on my radar screen. The value is so small that it would be wasteful for me to fiddle with setting the car up myself. If a standing start were implemented, I'd probably play around with it, but I don't care enough to be bothered to mess with fiddly half measures in the interim.

It's wasteful, and foolish, for a person to "fix" everything through half-ass measures regardless of whether the result is important to that person. The proper method is to choose what we're willing to "fix" based on the value that we assign to the result and the "cost" of the fix in terms of our own efforts.

I never called anyone lazy personally. I said PEOPLE. Dude specifically said "I hope YOU are not..." and "YOU are so ignorant." There is a difference.

That's a meaningless and pedantic distinction.

I think you just here to pick an e-fight.

But you're not here to throw any personal insults. I see.

Complaining on GTP = nothing, maybe something in the future

Stopping at the line = something, and you can definitely do it right now.

Let me break down my post as simply as possible, since you clearly couldn't comprehend it before:

Stating that a standing start option would be nice to have is not the same as refusing to use a half-ass work-around.

Notice how I did that without calling any names or trying anyone's intelligence.

Actually, you did insult me directly in there. But it's OK, I forgive you.

Its someones time of the month...this is the 3rd thread I've been reading where arguments are taking over. It gets so old. It's the internet people, no one gives a rip.

Go here if you want beef.
http://pointlessinternetargumentforums.com/

Lets just stay focused on the topic.

Only change I want is for them to make this track easier to unlock. Stupid Bus race.

You got me, man. I should know that coming to an unofficial forum and complaining is the right thing to do.

I'm not complaining. I'm discussing. That's what a forum is for. You're the one complaining about people having a discussion.

The fact of the matter is, we are not PD. The only productive thing we can do is a work around. You are not suggesting a fix. You are suggesting a workaround. One that people are saying they don't want to use, therefore, a worthless one.

Yes, I do thinks its lazy. People rather cry and complain until someones else does something instead of making it work themselves. If thats not lazy...

Nobody is crying or complaining. People are discussing. You are complaining and crying because people want to discuss.

PS: Anytime someone makes a personal, off topic shot, I feel like you know I'm right and your running out of points to defend your topic.

You're not right, you're just ignorant.

So why are you posting in this thread?... You are complaining, plain and simple.

Stopping at the line = something I definitely do not want to do right now, and other people don't either (as they've said time and again in this thread). Learn to read.

2 mile straights are good enough for me, I would like the full runway plz!

My gripe is no one WANTS to do it themselves, they just want PD to do it for them.
I don't refuse to use the manual-stop workaround because I'm lazy. I refuse to use it because I refuse to use the Top Gear test track at all. PD made this feature so unattractive to me that I just can't be bothered to have a go.

Do I want PD to fix it? Hell yeah, because it's their damn job. Things like this show that they put so little effort in their own product that they, in my opinion at least, more or less completely devalued most parts of it to an extent which makes me stop using it.

I understand that there is no perfect game as such, and I am willing and ready to apply workarounds for many problems to enjoy a game more. This case however shows me where my efforts clearly end. They couldn't be bothered to waste even a single brain cell to make the Top Gear test track worthwhile, so I don't see any point in spending my time there - simple as that.

Im glad that the Top Gear test track is in GT5 but the Top Gear content in the game is really dissapointing. Given how popular Top Gear is worldwide, it seem strange that the only challenges are the three special races with the samba bus, elise and the hitlermobile. I remember in one of the GT5 trailers there were a few shots of The Stig drifting an Alfa 8C and racing an Evo 10 against an Impreza which seemed to hint towards those sorts of challenges in the game but so far the only Top Gear content is the track and 3 small, irrelevant races. Seems a bit strange to me.

I think the Stig was removed when Ben Collins outed himself and PD probably didn't know if there would be a new one so they may have removed him though he is in the video introduction for the Special Events. THats my opinion anyway.

I understand that we're upset because PD didn't put the track in like common sense would tell. But, if you really want the feature, you wont have any problem doing it until they fix it, if not sit down, shut up and stop complaining.

You know what, I'll just say it, this is all a big ass complaint about all the complaining. I mean, where have you guys imagination gone? I don't remember GT2 having online leader boards, but it didn't stop anybody from posting times on forums, I don't remember GT3 having a drift mode but it never stopped anyone from getting sideways.

They couldn't be bothered to waste even a single brain cell to make the Top Gear test track worthwhile, so I don't see any point in spending my time there - simple as that.

How do you know what they were bothered with, were you there?

I don't know why people think because we're in this day and age everything should be they way it should be because someone else should be able to do it. Unless you work at PD and was setting in on all the meetings, you don't know why PD did what.

Quite simply, where I'm from, if you not doing anything to help fix the problem, you're part of the problem.

But talking about the issue, discussing the issue an a forum where you HOPE that, being the largest English language GT5 forum on the planet, PD actually DO spend some time reading, that IS doing something about it...

If you don't let PD know what the issues are, and give them an idea of whether issues are large or small, how are they supposed to KNOW what they all are? They certainly didn't know about them BEFORE they released the game, or they wouldn't have released it this way.

Where some people see whining at PD, others see constructive criticism directed at the ONLY people that CAN do something about this.

To be honest, the only nonconstructive whining I see here is from those that are whining about the whining. If you like things EXACTLY the way they are, what's the POINT being here at all? To voice your support for PD while they nerf yet another part of the game? Start a thread, PRAISING them for no standing starts, Stig challenges and only three events then.

Better wear your flak jacket when you do, though!

I think the Stig was removed when Ben Collins outed himself and PD probably didn't know if there would be a new one so they may have removed him though he is in the video introduction for the Special Events. THats my opinion anyway.

But now there is a new Stig (that smells like a mixture of candy floss and brake fluid*) they can sort it out

*old Stig just had the candy floss smell the brake fluid wears off after a bit

agree with the requests for the full Dunsfold driving area to be available and for the standing starts...

but I stand by my potato vote :dopey:

The Stig is completely the property of the show, NOT the guy doing the driving. No need for his permission whatsoever. His persona is the property of the producers, who, having already sold the rights to the course, the name, and having used the Stig's likeness in adverts for GT5, it's pretty apparent that PD COULD include him (if they weren't going all out to give us a browser control of B-Spec which we all want a LOT more  ) if they wanted to.

Quite simply, where I'm from, if you not doing anything to help fix the problem, you're part of the problem.

Yep. And quite simply, you're not doing anything to fix the problem. The problem is "No standing start". Your suggestion is not one we want, yet you keep trying to promote it.

Also, how is discussing the "lack of standing start" contributing to the problem of "lack of standing start"? Are we going to have even LESS of a standing start because we choose to discuss it?...

Where I come from, if you keep suggesting something that people do not want, and stating that what they (the majority) do want is trivial, you're not a very clever person.
