After about 20 attempts, I turned skid control on and finished 2nd. I'm calling it a day.

No way should that Lotus ever handle like an early 1970's American car. I don't care what the settings are. Biggest mistake I've found so far in the game.

It's not the car its the tires they put on it for that challenge.

They're comfort hard tyres, worst tyres in the game. I thought I got gold on this event but going back to it now I only got silver. Finding it hard to get that gold :(

EDIT:Where are the tuning options? You guys are talking about the intermediate Top gear event right? I can only change driving options, nothing to do with brake balance.

Pssh, it's easy. I had first coming out of Hammerhead on the second lap, no tweaks or assists. :p

Are people struggling with this challenge that much? I didn't think the speed or control was hard, it was staying out of the AI's way. lol

really, like I mentioned getting bumped / held back by the AI is the main prob, sure the car is loose as heck. I even admitted that I used some aids TC 1 or 2 and the anti slip thingy.
but I already knew I was gunning for gold so each time in the middle that I realize I can't get to 4th by the end of the first lap (provided I didn't get DQed in the process) I simply restarted. Hence I can say I finished this challenge only 4 times, once bronze, 2 times silver and last one gold.
Saves time to restart knowing you made a mistake early.
Like Blitz says, attack Bacharach and Gambon, and be stable everywhere else, the car is very loose :D
Almost reminds me of the first time I did the Viper test in the very first GT, I was like wth, this game is impossible :D That Viper was a beast, its what got me really hooked to GT :)

How do you tune the car? I've seen people say this in a few threads... seriously there are NO tuning options just driving.

I manage to get 1st (after like a dozen of tries) just turning off the traction control and master its super unbalance break :D

As soon as you nail the cars braking the test is easy. It did my head in at first but then I figured how my approach to driving the car with those tyres was wrong and did it pretty easily after that. I didn't change any of the cars settings, just tried taking different lines through some of the corners and whatever you do, don't brake hard and come off the throttle at the same time. The challenges are all very possible, some of them just require a bit of experimentation in your driving approach since you sometimes get odd car and tyre combinations.

I think they mean the on the fly options of the DFGT.

You don't need the DFGT to do this

If you are using a wheel set your normal dualshock controller to controller 1 and then in the controller settings you can set buttons to access the brake bias etc changes in exactly the same way as with the DFGT.

You don't even need a wheel I found out, I've just set R1 to bring up the menu and dpad to cycle/adjust options. Feels like cheating but I'm hating myself here and I just never have had skill with a controller... still waiting on the money for a wheel unfortunately and I suck badly with controllers for precise movement... it's just clumsy digital stabs 80% of the time, guess I have unco thumbs :p

is anyone doing this challenge with 0 traction and more importantly 0 abs, no brake bias adjustment. i can get silver, been trying for 2hours plus, realised i need to take the slow tight turns very smoothly, as long as i can keep up with the car infront when in these corners, i have a good chance of getting gold

also forgot to say im using clutch and gearstick, i think this is whats making it hard...the fact i have to hold the wheel with one hand when changing gears and steer just before bends. i tried it with paddles only and its much easier to keep the car steady with both hands on wheel while braking and changing down. if anyone else is using the same settings and style as me and has got gold would love to know to get some tips.

Im using a wheel, no assists and the best I managed so far is 8th.

Ok got it :) Traction control 1 ABS 1, no skid recovery but front brakes set to 9 via race adjustments on the fly.

I could get as good as 6th or 7th on the first 2 corners lap one so I was good there and 5th by the third corner and 4th by the second lap, it was just that lap where I had the wrong tactics.

3rd place yellow guy goes wide on the first corner and is slow into the chicane type thing, then second place goes out wide on the 2nd corner. 1st place can be had on the hammerhead pretty easy if you brake late and box him out by taking the inside and progressively moving outward. Felt like cheating a bit because I actually got him to almost stop and he never even caught up to me after that and I just babied it over the line.

Here's to hoping I can do proper driving once I get a wheel *walks away shamefully :(

Honestly, I love this game. As most of you I have played all of the GT series since the first one and actually got to beat all of GT4 with my brother. It's just frustrating to see some parts of this game be so amazing and others parts, such as this TG even, fail so miserably. Sure I can get gold...but that's not the point.
The Lotus handles like it does in this test beacuse your forced to drive it with economy tyres on, not the tyres the car should have or has when you buy it. They've deliberately made it so that the bigger part of the challenge is in controling the car rather than simply overtaking 12 cars in 2 laps. The key is to keep the car as balanced as you can even if it means slowing down more or earlier than you think you should.

All you need to do is tap the handbrake to lock the tyres up on the first straight. The little time you lose, you will make up for by not being sideways.

I got all TOP GEAR special event Gold, the only advice is BrutherSuperior's advice, remember what AI do and use it to your advantage, not easy I know, I repeated that over 20 times to gold it

I found it a lot easier by changing the settings on the DFGT from Amateur to Sim. You can be more aggressive with the car.

I had real trouble with this the first time around. 5th was my best result. I revisited it today.... about 15 tries later, I got the gold.
I think one secret to succeeding is to always brake later than AI cars, and dive up hard on the inside. You can use their car to hold your line and stop you running wide... just rest up against them as your going through the corner. As long as you don't hit them hard, you should get no penalty.
Every time you attempt the challenge you will go a little faster and you will be able to pick out each car that you need to pass at certain corners to take the win.

Why's everyone struggling with this event? I turned it on, did 5 attempts where i hit cones or spun and got a feel of the car and then next attempt bang, got the gold with a decent margin using the stock settings. I'm using the DF GT and find the elise great fun to drive.

had no trouble at all with this one. on my second try i had it done.
you just have to out brake the AI. and drift a bit around the corners :)

After about 2hrs of trying to get my head around this challenge (i struggled massively with the 111R in Prologue as well), trying various settings (Traction Control, ASM etc) i eventually stripped it back and went to ABS 1 and nothing else. Spent another hour this afternoon getting used to how the car behaves under various braking pressures at each turn, and finally got Gold by 0.072.

The hardest of all tests on the game so far, i've got 60 Gold on the License Tests and they were an absolute piece of cake compared to this.

Perseverance paid off, but geez it left me homicidal.......

Its a damn awesome challange, My Attack was to power slide past 2 cars in the 1st corner. 2nd chicane, brake late and pass 4 more cars. Slip stream down the straights and gun it through the high speed corners. Brake late in Gambon, and pass 3 more cars through Gambon. But be carefull, the corner right before gambon is a Tricky one, as you will start to drift off of the track if you are too fast.

Try and try again... I got so irritated after a while i had to shout into a pillow on my couch just to get the frustration levels to a manageble level.

LOL
