I got gold on this event today, but I didn't tinker with the settings at all, and I was also neck and neck with 1st place by the beginning of the second lap.

I really found it better without TC and just feathering the throttle through/out of the corners. TC really just slows you down instead of spinning you out, so it doesn't really teach you what you are doing wrong.

Adjusting the front brakes helped much much more than playing with ABS or TC. I had TC off and ABS on 1 when I golded it, it was all down to the front brake bias and that I eventually found where the AI slipped up on the last lap. Before that I rarely got to the last lap without being disqualified or being too far behind. You have to get to that last lap up with the leaders to see what they do before you can work out a plan.

I had a blast with this challenge but it was definitely infuriating at some points. It took me quite a few tries to finally master it and I ended up cranking the TCS way up and slogging through to gold.

I was really surprised at how badly the Elise handled. It must be down to the awful tires they make you use on this one but still. I've got a few friends that drive Elises and they both use them for autocross and track days all the time on all-seasons and don't have a problem. Mid-engined cars do have a tendency to swap ends if you're not careful but the Elise is supposed to be one of the most well balanced cars out there.

I don't have the DFGT so I cannot tune the car. But setting TCS to 2 and skid recovery on (can't adjust ASM) already make the car much easier to control and I can consistently get 2nd or 3rd. Will try it tonight again and should be able to get gold.

As someone has pointed out above, the most important thing in this challenge is to avoid the AI cars. Most of them break too early when entering a turn, and accelerate too late when getting out. Just drive slightly off the racing line there are a lot of chances to overtake them. But the most important reason why you should not drive on the racing line is that, the AI cars drive like trains on a track. And when your speed is quick enough, even when they are the ones who bump into you, you get disqualified, wtf!

Played this several times my first time at it and could only get 2nd or 3rd, but I just played again today and got Gold on the 4th or 5th try with stock settings (manual, 0 TC, 1ABS, no aids). It's just a matter if slotting through different cars at the right time. The 3rd corner (slight bend before Chicago) is absolutely key.

What I do is I pass the first car at the first left hander after the right bend. Take the inside line, staying fairly straight to keep the car under control, brake, then slot in front of him from the inside, being gentle with the throttle. Then for the next slight left before Chicago you need to be very strategic. Remember that you can drive through the pylons where the line ends (not the inside ones through), however you need to be very smart here and this is why I said you need to be strategic.

If you just plow through the pylons for the inside line when you're close enough to the next car, there's no way through. You'll pass the first car, but the next two cars ahead will turn in and leave you with nowhere to go -- smash, DSQ. What you need to do is move through the pylons to get around the 10th place car, lift off the gas (while you're passing him), and turn right to get around around the next two cars moving into Chicago, then take the inside through the tires. Remember that slowing down is key here -- not too much but enough so that you can pass the 10th place car and then shift around the next two cars on the right side, keeping your momentum into Chicago to pass both of them on the inside.

You should be able to take the next car, which first runs wide, on this corner. Keep on the inside and don't worry if he comes in to nudge you (quite hard actually) since you won't fail (from my experience). From here on you're pretty much good to go. You've done most of the work, and I believe you should be 7th. You should be able to pass the next 2 cars under braking on the outside for Hammerhead. Stay on the right of them while braking, stopping a little later than they do, then slot in 5th for the corner entry on the inside of the next part of the corner.

Be gentle with the throttle here to keep the car in check. You don't need to worry about passing the next car very soon, so relax. You should start to get closer to him towards the exit of the followthrough, and then once you fly through the tires you should really gain on him, especially as he starts to brake for Bacharach, where you should take him under braking for 4th (inside or outside really -- outside can be nice since you keep your momentum and have a good cornering angle for the next corner). The 3rd place car might be struggling a bit on the exit and you should be able to nab 3rd place on the inside of Gambon, leaving you only 2 more cars to pass on the 2nd lap.

Here it all depends on how comfortable you feel. I believe I passed the 2nd place car on the first/second corner (much like the first lap and the 11th place car) or the slight bend before Chicago (through the pylons if you need to), and then the 1st place car during Chicago, coming out of the corner in the lead. If not there, you should be able to grab the lead under braking at Hammerhead (from the outside moving to the inside for the second part of the corner), and if not there you still have Bacharach again and then Gambom which are both great passing places.

On my first full time around the course(I kept on loosing control) I came to a photo finish with the first place driver. Had I remembered that the finish was right around the corner I would have just pushed him onto the grass or something. I was pretty pissed lol I dont think it could have gotten any closer.

Finally got the gold.
TC: 0
ABS: 0
ASM: off
Front break: 9
Rear break: 2

I was very disappointed with this challenge..even though it was fun to finally beat it I must say it really showed how defective the AI really is and how unrealistic this game can be at times when in terms of physics. Also, the fact that the rules regarding disqualification don't apply to the computer is infuriating.

Just glad I finally got it over with.

i got gold with six axis ds3 the car is on cold tyres i noticed the game now responds to cold tyres
at the start draft the car in front coming into the corner use it as a shield from sliding wide so in sense try to out brake him an control the car under breakin then put ur foot down dnt feed the car jus go flat out in ever corner except hammerhead beacuse its too long
try to blance the car to go straight while u r on the trottle bere in mind to take the hairpins easy till u r cummin off them by the time u get to lap 2 u shuld b in 3rd place or battling with the light blue car....hope it helps thats how i got my gold.....remember use the other cars as shields only if u really want the gold......COLD TYRES

I just got gold after about 20 tries.

To be honest, it simply comes down to:

1) late braking + trail braking
2) A bit of "defensive" driving
3) Cone cutting <- not required but helps
4) RELAX!

I was super stressed out after not getting it after about 10 tries. I found that relaxing and going slower was actually faster :)

I think this challenge sucks....not of itself so much as it's placement at the intermediate level. Yeah, and the AI knocking you off the track sucks too.

In all honesty, I don't consider myself that great of a driver. I tried the Lotus Event a couple a days ago with a dualshock, and I was only able to place 3rd. I found myself frustrated and gave up for the night. However, today, with stock settings, I found myself a gold :). Really, I avoided the disqualifiable 'rear ends', passed them on turns, and in the end it came down to me cutting a corner. Could I do it again? I have no idea. Don't feel like trying lol.

:yuck: :grumpy:  THIS CHALLENGE CAN BURN IN HELL!!!  🤬
👎:banghead:
I feel all those thing about this challenge. I want to cry.

I will upload my replay tomorrow, maybe it will help some but I don't have a capture card so I have to upload the replay file to rapidshare or megaupload.

I managed to pass it with gold last night after 1hr:30mins. It just takes time to learn how far you can push the car, the best thing is to stay relaxed. If you get stressed just quit and have a break otherwise it will snowball and you'll break a controller or a TV.

Breaking into turn 1 is really helped if you keep 50% throttle on at first just to keep the car stable.

Thanks for the tips guys, I've just completed it using these changes:

TCS - off
Skid Recovery - on

With these settings the car was a lot smoother under braking an cornering.

A few things I will say to those still trying to slay this beast - the car is very sideways prone, use that to your advantage! Especilly on the first corner.

You need to be in around 5th place by the time you exit the hammerhead on the first lap if your going to have any shot at catching the leaders. Then it's just a case of driving smoothly and picking your moment.

Did today the Samba Bus and Lotus Challenge and i took me about 5 tried on each challenge... Samba Bus one was pretty simple i must say, hit the bloody cones all the time

Lotus Challenge is way more trickier! Did it with TC on 0, No ASM, and No skid recovery... and won by 0.5**

Just be very gentle on the throttle...

Chris

I think I tried it twice and, haunted by my memories of the 111R in Prologue, duly gave up, as with a lot of the Special Events. This game has to last me a while so I don't want to finish everything in the first month... Admittedly that's not very likely, but even so.

This challenge is really easy if you set up the car. Use RA settings and lower the rear brake strenght to 1 and leave front brake strength at 5, this will allow you to control car during braking. Hope this helps. P.s. you need to do this each time that you start the race

Just go into option's and edit the controller's button config... I use R1 to access the on the fly menu and the d-pad for modifying the values.

Thanks for the tip. What a pain to adjust these settings on the six-axis when driving. I thought that it would remember the settings if I restarted the race but no, I had to re-enter them again. I need a wheel!

I finally managed a 5th place finish, I'm learning the track really well after attempting to win this challenge over the past week. The hardest part that I'm having is getting disqualified for barely touching the AI cars or slightly running over a cone. This challenge would be a bit easier to complete if PD would patch the challenge making it a little more forgiving.

Got Gold on this beast last night.

I completed it with ABS=1 TSC=0 and no assists. That Lotus is hard work the key is to relax and don't attack the corners to hard just ease the car in and out.

Well... wonder if u guys heard about a rFactor mod called Historic GT . Its a blast. So far i´ve saw the comments about the handlind of the elise ( didnt drove it yet ) and it reminds me driving ANY of the cars present in the rFactor mod. No Traction Control, no ABS, just loads o fun , with jaguars and ferraris ...lots of power, no assists.

I think i will love elise... :)

It is not like what you think. It is not about balancing the throttle or having the car squirm under brakes. The car will just swap ends on you in an instant, drives nothing at all like classics.

Personally I spent 30 mins with the challenge with ABS=1, nothing else. Got up to 3rd and was starting to get to grips with it, but I always have a hard time spotting where the second last turn starts. I slowed down way to much for it, car in 4th comes along side me, hits me, I get disqualified. Nice. I gave up for the time being.

Start breaking at the 100m board on the right. (its the first brake board) or just after.

I maxed both brakes and ended up winning by doing what the AI do well, nudging the 1st place guy off the track coming out of Gambon!

WIN!

Should I be along side the board or already turning? Stupid track is too wide, it confuses my small racer brain!

Yea Eric it is a pain, thou it doe's save it sometimes not sure if it's consistent like if I screw up on the first corner it doesn't save them but if I make it thru half the lap it save's them. very annoying adjusting them while shifting and braking and turning lol. I use the G25 for most stuff but I use the pad for some events ekk!. As I can just be more aggressive which I am not comfortable doing with the wheel.
