Well, I got my Playstation second-hand (the PS-One was the slim version, I didn't have that.) and that's what started my obsession with GT (at my father's suggestion; he's also a petrol-head gamer )

So:

Adjusted for (UK) inflation, that's nearer £914; $1431; €1026
This further adjusted according to the respective historical exchange rate: $1448; €1224.
(I shan't bother with equivalent value...)

Mind you, my bicycles have cost me much more over the years, and GT has brought (almost) comparable pleasure; result!
The only other games I've had decent fun with on the various Playstations were the MGSs and Assassin's Creeds, so including hardware is almost "justified"...

If people question my logic, I'll respond accordingly. Nobody has yet given me a good reason as to why hardware should be included in the cost (apart from if GT is the ONLY franchise you own), and if so, where the line should be drawn regarding everything else that is required around you to facilitate playing that game.

When I got my PS3 the only HDMI cables they had in GAME at the time were xbox360 cables (£12 i think), I got one, it was rubbish, the picture kept freezing.

Beats me why people are listing their console hardware in a bid to make the numbers seem more impressive... I could accept that if the only game they had on that console was Gran Turismo, but I somehow doubt that will be the case.

Sure, I bought my PS3 purely because of the Gran Turismo franchise, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that's all I bought it for.

Can you play Gran Turismo without a Playstation? Thought so...........

If you don't agree with peoples figures, just subtract the amount for the console.

I for one play Gran Turismo at least twice a week, no other game has been played as much as it, by a long way. So yeah, my PS3 is basically a GT machine to all intents and purposes.

On the HDMI cables thing, the only thing notice is if I use my 5 metre cable I get sparkles on the screen, cable cost £5.00, with a 2 metre cable it's fine, cost £3.00, and now I use a HDMI-DVI which was about £5.00 and it works perfecto.

GT4 was about $40 as well.
edit: geez I forgot Prologue. $30 there.
Got a DFGT wheel for a Christmas gift.
$60 for a wall bracket to mount my TV in a better position.
$15 on wood, screws, paint and etc... to build my wheel stand.
$8 on GTR 2 to find out if I suck at sim driving or just suck at Gran Turismo. It's the first one, btw.

About $230... so far...

When 5 actually is released I'm getting...

...I think this is a decent thread. This isn't hard science. People can draw their own lines wherever the hell they want to for the purpose of this thread. If I spend $300 on a PS3 for the purpose of playing GT and end up playing other games too, well guess what, I still spent the money on the PS3 for GT. The only reason I didn't include it is because to be honest I bought my PS3 in order to play Metal Gear Solid 4, and that worked out very nicely.

edit: and as something I've been wondering a long while and seems somewhat appropriate for this thread, can anybody who knows a decent spot to pick up a buttkicker gamer 2 or similar item with decent pricing/shipping rates to Canada shoot me a pm!

The reason I did is because everything I listed was specially for GT5. As an example I wouldn't go to the expense of buying an expensive steering wheel/cockpit i.e Fanatec for Forza 3 because in my opinion that game doesn't warrant such expense.

My logic is simple. After years of playing the GT franchise and GT5P I know GT5 is going to be epic. So to fully reap the rewards of GT5 I realised I needed a decent HDTV, Surround system, steering wheel/cockpit.

So yes I did buy a HDTV, PS3, G25 specifically for GT5.

The title of this thread is how much you have spent on GT5. Now I have provided a list of what I have spent and the reasons for this. Now whether you agree with this doesn't really matter to me because how I spend my money is entirely up to me. Im not really bothered about any other video games and neither am I bothered about Blu ray movies. If I wish to use my PS3/HDTV only for GT5 then thats my choice.

Im saying all of this because it seems your very opinionated and you don't seem to take into account that we are all very different. You may use your HDTV, PS3 for many other things but we're not all the same as you!!

Had all the games, and consoles. Actually had 3 PS1, 2 Ps2, and im on my 2nd PS3 now (stupid blu-ray and stupid consumer rules in DK) I had GT4 3 times, borowed to a friend 1st time, didnt get back. 2 nd time it got lost when we moved. I got the psp bundle as well.

I will most likely exchange my 60g with a slim, and if theres a better wheel at the time, ill change my g25 with that. I bought a Sony TV for about 1800EU, unfortunatley, theres not enough room in our apartment for a rig. But when we move, i will get one asap, no matter the cost. I will most likely buy 2x GT5, and only unpack the 1 (special edition)...

Im also gonna invest in Eye, MOVE, and all the other nifty toys that can be used.

Basicaly i have no idea how much i have spent, but its much closer to 5000 EU than 4000 at least But then again, it's an unfair calculation. I got a TV, and i do use my PS3 to watch BD on, and i play quite a bit of fifa. So in all fairness its not _purely_ for GT, but primarily bought with that in mind.

Gaming is a huge passion for me, some have expensive cars, others expensive cameras or something.

My point is, i pay what it takes. I love this game too much not to... Luckily my wife think its great, as long as she can get sewing-machines o.O

Already got a bike thank you very much - dion't fancy cycling 25 miles there and 25 miles back each day though, esepcially during the dark winter nights as most of it is along windy country roads.

Apart from distances that are walkable, do you use a bike for everything else? No? Well, let me reciprocate the same back then...

first thanks to all gtpforum brothers for living that life. i learned about the g27 here, got that for 150 from good ole bustbuy. I learned of the home rigs(pcv) that fit over your lap on the couch; from you guys. went to homedepo and made that for 30. Painted it black, and im throwing the racing decals on it tomorrow. 50 sony 120hz eco5 1,400 ,gt5p= pretty much good to go. thx to all keep living that life. Ferrari Marv

Its so funny that you know exactly what I was thinking when I created this... Thats spectacular!

I come up with an idea that I think is fun and entertaining, but somehow you cannot see it as that. Not that you asked for it, but I think I will give you some advice. Come back to this thread in a month and read through it from an objective perspective. Hopefully at that point you will be less consumed with being right and will be able to see how annoying you truly have been during every page.

If and when you do come back and re-read the thread, I would take note of one thing. You made an initial post on the topic and then started a light debate with another member. After other people kept telling you that you were overreacting, it seems as though you became more and more aggravated. Now, you have gone to the point of "knowing" what other people are thinking. Pretty sad if you ask me.

Let's be realistic here...I didn't buy any hardware specifically for the Gran Turismo series. I'd have a HDTV anyway regardless, and have owned a PS1, PS2, and PS3 for plenty of reasons other than Gran Turismo. Therefore, listing such hardware is kinda' pointless.

Didn't see this before - it's pretty worrying! The only problem I have is the PS3 switching to some compressed output format, so I lose some of the colour gamut (visible as dithering in the darker areas of the screen). I'm not sure if it's the cable, or the DVI input on the monitor I'm using

Either way, the cable's a bargain! When I get a full HD display with proper HDMI 1.3 support, I might get a better one - I'm hoping I don't need to, of course (can't be arsed with the research...)

For "reference", it's a HDMIKing Imperial Series jobbie, now £10 on Amazon.



And, back on topic-er, whilst this thread may seem to some as a sort of wang-off, I think there are many who have contributed totals who didn't do so for the purpose of bragging. That said, I didn't expect mine to be so large!

My HDTV was for watching sports and movies in HD, my PS3 was bought because it was a cheap Blu-Ray player at the time so neither of those count. I hate wheels so I'm not going to buy one of those and I really see no point in one of those big, expensive cockpits.
