Does it matter like REALLY, is it so important?
TD you do come across with a tad of what seems a jealeous streak.
Do you have a problem listing your components after you have been criticising people listing theirs?
Come on lets be having details of your setup....
Id love to know how and what you use to enjoy GT not necessarily what you bought specifically for it.
Apart from the game itself how do you define what you bought soley for GT.
If someone buys a wheel Im sure they will play and have in mind the idea of playing more than just GT.
So the whole thread is a bit stupid as nearly everything someone purchases to enjoy the game with they can also enjoy in other games or indeed things.
Oh puh'lease...jealous? These schoolboy-like forum accusations are truly pathetic!
Why are you so interested in my setup? It's nothing special - a dedicated room in our cottage, with a 46" BRAVIA X series at one end, leather sofa at the other, coffee table in the middle, surrounded by 5.1 KEF speakers. None of which was bought specifically to play GT. I watch TV there, play games, play Blu-ray, and use my ASRock ION 330 to play all kinds of media and browse the net on the big screen.
For playing GT I use a pad with a pair of the Gioteck Real Triggers. No wheel, no racing seat. It's a casual setup that suits our home and my playing patterns. I have used a wheel before with GT (Logitech DFP), but found the pedals were a bit crap, and I ultimately went back to the pad. I *might* get a Logitech G27 and Wheelstand Pro soon though, as I've got a few racers I could mess around with while waiting for GT5. Having said that, even though GT5 might have been the catalyst for me picking up a G27 and stand, I still would not include those in the list of expenses caused by Gran Turismo.
Yes, the thread is a bit stupid, because as I've been saying, I doubt there is anybody here who bought a PS3 and a HDTV solely to play Gran Turismo.
I can understand, TokyoDrift, how you are frustrated with this thread due to the lack of precision implied by the topic at hand. A certain level of granularity has been accepted as the de facto level, otherwise we could end up factoring in the cost of extracting oil from the earth to make the black plastic polymer which a recently purchased PS3 is adorned with.
This thread is proving to be quite interesting though. It's good to see such passion for GT. I think we all have our ideal fantasy GT playing environment and some posts here that list expenditure show how people are aiming towards that ideal setup. Does anyone have photos of everything related to GT that they have purchased? It would make this thread even more intriguing!
As somebody who used to do system design and development, I like that word "granularity", and you are right. However, I still think that the level of granularity accepted is wrong.
I think TD is deliberately ignoring some of the replies so he can carry on trolling this thread.
The simple question is would I have purchased a wheel, cockpit, PS3, HDTV if GT5 wasn't being released. The answer is no because I don't use my PC for racing games so that rules out the G25/cockpit. Would I of purchased a HDTV, PS3 and the answer is no because I have little interest in other games and also watch little TV or movies.
Im sure TD will ignore the above as per usual!
Oh FFS, I go to bed, wake up, take my daughter to school, sort out our business invoices for the day, and then get accused of ignoring replies. Grow up eh?
The fact is, you use your PS3 and HDTV for other things, so while GT5 was the catalyst, it was not the only thing you play on them. I'm sure you also watch some amount of TV and movies on there as well.
Thing is its not frustrating at all.
Nothing wrong with listing items we puchase to go towards enjoying GT.
Also some of the posts are quite humorous regards it, like that one including the house cost, pure gem!
Maybe we should then ignore him if he keeps making it an issue.
Weve said our bit, he might realise its not worthwhile making a fuss over it.
I'm not making an issue at all - if you lot keep on replying and questioning my rationale, and making childish accusations of jealousy and ignoring things, I'm happy to keep on playing the game.
At the end of the day, this thread is purely about the setup you use to play Gran Turismo. Of course you are going to need a TV, PS3, copy of the game, and some method of controlling it. Fine, so rename the thread to what it really represents, because nobody here has a PS3 and HDTV dedicated to purely Gran Turismo.
