Well, an auto cannot gear down like a manual. I can drop 2 gears with a manual, pretty hard to do with an auto. I don't think it is for an auto,trans. Just a general reference.
I also use a wheel. No experience with controller,so can't help you out.
There are no methods that are specifically for setting automatic transmissions. The gear ratios are linked so you can't do anything particularly clever or specialised with them
Simple answer to your question. There are a few tranny tricks that work on both automatic and manual. I have described one method in my tuning guide. Praiano has also provided a detailed guide in his tuning garage.
