Pretty tough group for City again. I doubt we'll qualify through to the knockout stages, Europa league is best we can hope for.

I'd be over the moon if we progressed!

With the exception of Bayern, they really should be beating the teams in their group.

Group F looks the most interesting, it wouldn't surprise me if it came down to goal difference. Chelsea should be able to mount at least a semi-serious final bid with their squad; probably their best in the premiership era.

There are some interesting groups here.

Group A:
A good group with a fight for first place between United and Shaktar. In theory Leverkusen and Sociedad are the weakest but some surprises can come up and both can claim some points to the "big ones" of the group, so any result is possible here.

Group B:
Free passes to Real and Juve for the next round. Galatasaray can put up a fight but 3rd place is inevitable. Copenhagen is screwed.

Group C:
PSG goes to the next round as well, but the other three can be an authentic headache for PSG. Benfica (my pride and joy) is a good candidate for the other spot, not a very strong team but can cause some damage. Olympiacos will be fighting with Benfica for 2nd and I guess a really good fight coming up. Anderlecht can surprise but it's the weakest there.

Group D:
City and Munich with a couple more free passes but they can slip in Russia thanks to russian weather. Plzen is not a great threat for any place than forth.

Group E:
Is the weakest group along side with Group G (but balanced). IMHO, anything can and will happen, outcomes are not foreseeable and it's 4-way fight to the next round.

Group F:
By far the best and the most balanced group. This one will very interesting with another 4-way fight. I'll be looking foward with this one. Anything can happen.

Group G:
As I said above is one of the weakest groups here and Zenit is a good candidate but Atletico is really strong and can bring a good fight. Porto is a bit of an outsider but can surely put a hand on the first two places. And then there's Wien. The debuters so they don't want to give a bad image and they will fight for a place in Europa League.

Group H:
Barça, Milan will perform a good show. Celtic will use surprise factor. Fly under the radar and then strike with everything they got, like they did last year. I don't forsee a great future for Ajax though

I hate to say that I'd disagree with you on that one.

Chelsea are far from weak at all and are a class above the rest of the group, more so than any other groups for sure. As I said they'd be my bet if I had to choose one team to get a full 18 points.

The order of the group is pretty much set in stone - it's the order they came out in.

Schalke are not as good a side as their position here suggests - they barely made it in at all after all.

Basel are an interesting side to watch - I did so against Chelsea themselves last year at Stamford Bridge - but I don't think their squad is actually strong enough to get any more than a 3rd place. But then they beat Man Utd two years ago into 3rd so Schalke shouldn't be much sweat if they can get a run going there.

Steaua actually gave Chelsea some fair trouble in the UEL last year but they aren't a very well known quantity and they also won't have Chiriches evidently, and he's the only player I properly knew about who played for them last year. You know that's a bad sign...

I'm not saying anything about the group. Just like last year. All we do is play the best we can in every game and enjoy being in the European top tier once more. First time is a fluke, second successful year is an attempt at establishing yourself as a annual team. We've beat all these teams before after all.

That is true. City have more than enough talent to progress through the group.

But after the last two seasons' showings, I'm not holding my breath, I've been a City fan for over 10 years and I know what typical City are like. I.e. sweep aside Newcastle 4-0 and then lose 3-2 to a Championship side. ;)

Chelsea may have a similar side atm as past year but with a big difference "the happy one" his tactics and spirit with tern chelsea better.........and thats coming from a United fan!

Don't know where to put this so I'll put it here. Chelsea are 1-0 up at half time in the Super cup thanks to Torres' goal. I never thought I'd say that

Ouch, last kick of the game to take it to penalties... just 5 seconds of extra time injury time left... :ouch:

Cracking game so far, I thought Chelsea had done enough, but this time it was Bayern's turn to get a last minute goal!

Bayern win 5-4 on penalties - tough luck, and a shame for Lukaku - the only player not to convert their penalty.

Arghhh, can't believe they lost that. :( Kind of saw it coming as soon as Lukaku stepped up. He'd had a pretty poor game since coming on and it just didn't look like it was going to come off for him.

Chelsea surprised me. Really good game and Bayern is way weaker that last year thanks to Barcelona's say of playing, that is the Pep way. Bad luck for Lukaku though, he wasn't ready to take that penalty. Thais chages a bit my way of thinking about Chelsea, it might be stronger than I anticipated.

Ticket Prices for non-Season Ticket holders are in for Celtic, 3 games are £115, roughly the same as last year. Suppose I better start saving. :dunce:

Can't wait to be in a queue for 4 and a half hours like last year. :(

The Scotsman are saying that Celtic will have to play next year's Champions League qualifiers at Murrayfield (or some other large stadium) because Celtic Park is being used as a venue for the Commonwealth Games and the pitch will not be suitable for use over the Q2 and possibly Q3 stages, although they hope that they will be able to play the play-off round at Celtic Park. They added that Hampden Park and Ibrox have been ruled out as alternatives because they too are Commonwealth Games venues (provided Ibrox hasn't been sold and converted into a retail park by then)... methinks Ibrox might have been off the table in any case.

Makes sense, Murrayfield wouldn't be too bad, especially for away fans since the seating would be much better for sure. If there's one complaint I have about CP is the away seating I've witnessed by fluke once. (Away end in UEFA 2003 cup run)

And well, maybe a wee bit of CL action would lighten up Ibrox? :sly:

Group stage starts tonight with two English teams, Man United at home to Bayer Leverkusen and Man City away to Plzen....

I bet you are!

Fellaini and Kagawa start for United!!

Bring on Leverkusen! I think Moyes has gone for a very defensive line up will Carrick and Fellaini.

Good game at Old Trafford so far - RVP's goal was excellent - keeper might have done better but he probably wasn't expecting it since RVP got to it at a funny angle... still, Leverkeusen are no push overs - their goal was great too, but I think Man U will deserve the win if they get it.

And Moyes must be creaming his pants at the prospect of a Lennon-McCartney style rivalry between Rooney and RVP...!

edit: just as well Man U had 4 goals, since De Gea screwed up royally for the second Leverkeusen goal... and although he may be excused, RVP's miss was almost as bad than this (if not worse!):

Rooney played excellent today! Man of the match by far.

United were really good most of the match, and worked hard as a team.

Also, Juventus only managed 1-1 against Copenhagen. :sly:

@TM, that video is priceless, the miss is one thing but then the commentators just decide being professional is too mainstream

And about the game, great first result for Moyes, just as well we scored 4 as that second goal was a total defensive cock up. MotM is Rooney for me as well, played fantastically again.

Good performance last night, Rooney MOTM by a mile and great achievement for to get to 200 goals for any club!, Manchester Derby Sunday...

...tonight its Chelsea v Basel, Marseille v Arsenal and AC Milan v Celtic..

Big Big win for the Gunners Aaron Ramsey on fire again.

Kudos to Mohamed Salah and Basel as well brilliant result for them.

From tonight's Telegraph...

Gah, Typical European loss for Celtic.

Dominated possession for 70 mins, couldn't score for soup, got punished in dying minutes by a OG and a off-the-ball free kick.

GG Milan

This in a nutshell - two big matches coming up against Napoli and BD.

Tee hee at Chelsea, although their form blip is undoubtedly temporary - they are still my picks for the EPL.

Yeah they still have the strongest squad so far, turns out it's our 10th away win in a row which is nothing but impressive, the hope is we resume this form.

Oh and tough luck to Celtic played rather well, really unlucky though.

Chelsea off to a good start in their defence of the Europa League.

 yep!

Vey surprised by their result last night, especially as it was at home!

I watched the Arsenal game, great for them to get a win away to a good Marseille team, I had the match on mute most of the time because that guy with the megaphone was REALLY ANNOYING!!!

Bad luck for Celtic after they played well..
