Kante was really good as well, didn't think a proper CDM would be needed but he was sweeping up balls left right and centre.

To be fair, he's been doing that all season, no reason he's going to stop now... he's like the footballing equivalent of Gandalf mixed with a good chunk of the Duracell bunny.

Switzerland win 1-0. Highly contested end to end game but really unlucky for Cana with the red card and Sommer pulled off some great saves.

No Hennessey for Wales, injured, Danny Ward makes his start in goal, Jonny Williams plays just off Bale up front....

Half time, good stuff from Wales, deserve to be in the lead but Slovakia had some good chances towards the end and they will be right up for it in the second half, some shocking refereeing in that half!

Wales 2-1 Slovakia, full time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cheers::cheers::cheers::D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Credit to Ben Davies for curbing any potential Slovakian momentum with that clearance early on. 👍

A deserved win against what should have been a 10 man Slovakia side.

Our second was nice build up play but a scruffy goal, great performance, we weren't at the races for a little bit once they equalized but we got right back in it, everyone played their part, superb support, SO HAPPY!!! :D:D:D

England had so many chances in that half, Akinfeev keeping the Russians in it, all England with Russia not doing anything, England just need to up the tempo and stop getting Kane to take the corners!

I'm bored. Current FIFA rankings by group:

Group A
1. Switzerland (15)
2. France (17)
3. Romania (22)
4. Albania (42)

Group B
1. England (11)
2. Slovakia (24)
3. Wales (26)
4. Russia (29)

Group C
1. Germany (4)
2. Ukraine (19)
3. Northern Ireland (25)
4. Poland (27)

Group D
1. Spain (6)
2. Turkey (18)
3. Croatia (27)
4. Czech Republic (30)

Group E
1. Belgium (2)
2. Italy (12)
3. Republic of Ireland (33)
4. Sweden (35)

Group F
1. Portugal (8)
2. Austria (10)
3. Hungary (20)
4. Iceland (34)

Which means we've had one "shock" already, with Wales beating Slovakia 2-1. But if it goes with ranking, the knockout rounds will be:

R2
France (17) - Ukraine (19)
England (11) - Romania (22)
Spain (6) - Hungary (20)
Switzerland (15) - Northern Ireland (25)
Germany (4) - Wales (26)
Portugal (8) - Italy (12)
Belgium (2) - Turkey (18)
Slovakia (24) - Austria (10)

QF
France (17) - Spain (6)
England (11) - Portugal (8)
Germany (4) - Belgium (2)
Switzerland (15) - Austria (10)

SF
Spain (6) - Portugal (8)
Belgium (2) - Austria (10)

Basically whomever finishes in 2nd in Group A and Group F should almost have a walkover to the quarterfinals, and whoever wins the Group C/E winner quarterfinal should go straight to the final without a fuss.

Russia strike at the death, 1-1, they deserved more tbh, Wales game now a must win for them??

England still haven't won their opening game of any Euros.

Dier free kick was superb....

And thanks to that blunderful final few minutes, Wales remain the only British team so far to win one of their opening Euro Championship matches. Do-ho-ho.

Now for Northern Ireland to follow the Welsh example. :dopey:

Typical, just like 2 years ago we actually played alright but we always manage to eff it up. Expecting us to control the game against Wales only for Bale to make Cahill and Smalling look like Northern League players right at the death.

England played better in one game than they did in the 2014 World Cup....

Stats wise we were pretty good in 2014 at least, I think we had the most possession and chances in our 3 games. We're wasteful bottlers though so none of that really matters.

2 things are seriously wrong with England.

Whenever Sterling or the guy on the other side rushed forward there was no one in front of the goal to receive the ball.

And.

Why is Kane? taking all (most) of the free kicks and corners when you can use that length in front of the goal, instead of that ugly garden gnome Rooney.

Kane played ok but I think Vardy's pace would have been much better suited to tonight's match, our wingers and fullbacks were flying up and down and I don't think Kane could keep up.

So England fans were attacked by Russian Ultras in Marseille this afternoon and then were attacked after the game and were chased out of the stadium by opposition fans, where is the next World Cup being held again?!
