His contract was with BBC, so no. He could sign a contract with a different broadcaster, provided nothing serious comes of the police investigation.

He's done 2 hours of non-Top Gear factual programming in the last decade. They were two programs on events during World War 2 in 2007 and 2014.

Other than that he's appeared as a guest panellist on comedy panel shows QI (BBC), 8 Out of 10 Cats (C4), Would I Lie To You (BBC), Have I Got News For You (BBC) and Never Mind the Buzzcocks (BBC) along with guest presenting on Buzzcocks and HIGNFY.

Perhaps, perhaps not. All I know is that he appears on BBC because he has a contract that pays him to do so. Typically if you are on suspension from your job you might still get paid but you are not allowed to do your job until the suspension is resolved. His suspensions seems likely to expire when his contract does and that means he cannot appear on BBC (his job) until that happens - and he'd have to be paid an appearance fee to appear on BBC because he won't be under contract...

He is due to appear as a guest host of HIGNFY on April 24th. This is, from what I understand, after the end of his contract and so he might still be able to fulfill that booking. However HIGNFY currently has guest presenters because its long time lead presenter resigned after he became embroiled in a story about sexual misdemeanours and said he couldn't present a satirical show about the news while being the news himself... At the moment Clarkson is outranking the deaths of 150 people in a bizarre and unexplained plane crash in the Alps, so the same thing may apply.

Something else... if Clarkson is the only one suspended, what actually caused James to use the #SU and why are they (he and Hammond) technically being suspended??

Its because they didnt want to shoot Top Gear without Clarkson. Although technically they still not suspended (both still have their own TV schedule).

You're going to have to explain that one as I have absolutely no idea what that means. As far as I can tell he hasn't appeared on broadcast TV in the UK at any point other than what I mentioned and as a guest on a couple of chat shows...

I'm not aware that May and Hammond are "technically suspended" (whatever that means), but I recall that they're unwilling to film the studio pieces - news, segues - that form the structure of the remaining episodes without Jeremy.

As to what caused James "to use the #SU" (I think that means his jokes on Twitter about being unemployed, but I can't tell), I'd imagine "having a sense of humour"?

Well as in that the show is not being aired but they are not suspended (formally announced I guess).

Kay... firstly, Youtube isn't the BBC. Secondly, "Who Do You Think You Are" is a TV series about celebrities' ancestry and not a Clarkson show. Lastly, Clarkson's episode of WDYTYA aired on the BBC eleven years ago. Remember when I said:

Jeremy has no other programs on the BBC that this suspension and eventual contract expiry will affect, because doesn't really make other programs...

Yes... the BBC haven't said anything to rebuttle that, even though it's been everywhere their "package deal".... Just confirmation is all I'm waiting for..

Top Gear is going to do a reboot next year and we'll all see the first episode in 2016 and we'll all hate it.

Back to the "straight" TV car show (i.e. the pre-2002 version), I presume. There's a reason why the Car and Driver TV show crashed and burned, and why MotorWeek has to subsist on government TV (wait a minute, the BBC is government TV), and why the US version of Top Gear went to 100% gimicks.

I have to say 'well done' to the BBC for making a tough but fair decision and for not giving in to commercial pressure - a rare thing in the medium of television these days, especially when the commercial steaks are so high.

I guess BBC is trying to chip away at the image that they will allow their stars to get away with anything. I think it's important for an organization to not allow any of their stars to be too big of a fish to fry.

I hate everything about this. I hate that Clarkson attacked Oisin and I hate that Oisin is taking flak from some people. I hate that he's gone from Top Gear and that we're seemingly waiting for it to disappear all together.

That was the first show that everyone in my family really loved. We would always watch it together when my sister and I were coming home from college. Now we're even busier and are rarely all together, but whenever we are, TG is on. The first time we saw it was actually at our hotel in London at least 10 years ago and it was the Reliant Rocket episode. We found it after flipping through channels and laughed hysterically at it - which we hadn't done together in a long time.

It's "just a show" and "Clarkson deserves it", but this is all just so crappy that I really don't know what to make of it. I know the BBC had to act, but I feel that this is hurting the some 350 million fans (and the entire TG crew) far more than it's hurting Clarkson or BBC's reputation if they had defended him.

I just.... hate this.
 
BBC can not continue with Top Gear if they do it will be more pain then good.

I wonder if the Boys will team together to do a TV show on another network(Hopefully HBO).

I know both of them have TV shows outside Topgear on BBC but May would likely leave pretty easily, but Hammond probably wouldn't as he is in too many TV shows already and will probably be out of BBC if he commits to another network show, so im not sure he would go.

Which is perfect because Top gear is best when it's just Clarkson and May.

I have to agree there... It is always quite funny to watch the two together.
 
Am I the only one who would love to see James May on Fifth Gear? They've been going for a much lighter theme over the past few seasons, with Plato and Tiff in particular messing about quite a lot. I can see May fitting in quite well with them.
