Also, TG Dog was always Hammonds dog from the beginning, you can see him in the book of Hammonds, not the new one but the old one.
 
That was a great episode! Really enjoyed it, also been enjoying old episodes on the "Dave" channel.

Which reminds me, I saw an episode of Clarksons car years today, it was the why do we love british sports cars one, and near the end with the modern cars he uses gran turismo 2 to test the lotus elise, tvr cerbera and mg tf! I was like, dam, bad graphics, bad sound and wtf is the wheel he uses..
Interesting either way.
 
Now that I've finally gotten the X360/Vista experience sorted out, I was able to enjoy fresh Top Gear episodes on my own HDTV. What a wonderful time!

It was a pretty decent episode, but it felt like there was some sense of awesomeness lacking. I really enjoyed the test of the 159 (I can't wait for them to come to the United States!) and the final race with the motor homes at the end was hilarious...

Looking forward to next week!

The motor home racing was fabulous, but the rest was a bit boring somehow.

That Alfa Romeo 159 bit though – that wasn’t literally two years late. While I was watching it, something in the back of my mind told me that I had seen James wear that sweater in an Alfa Romeo before. Sure enough, if you view the first episode of season 8 and go about 2:20 in, you’ll see James barreling down a dirt road in a silver 159 with license plate RF55BOH and in that hideous sweater, saying “Why can’t I just win something?” A few months ago I saw that and was really bothered that I couldn’t find it in any of the season 8 episodes; so, for whatever reason, they decided to hold off on it until now. Strange.



 
Did anyone here that us Aussies are gonna get our OWN Top Gear in 2008? :D

Well Clarkson seemed rather enamoured with one of his "heroes" so I guess that was important to him.
I guess as there was no serious super car in it and no "race" it seemed somewhat tame. Surprised the Civic Type-R got slated. Looks like Honda have dropped the ball somewhat.

Like the Alfa 159 test - hasn't the latest Civic Type-R been out for quite a while now?

BBC budget cuts forcing TG to playing older unused tests to fill the space?
 
I agree with all the above comments, normally the episode finishes and I think, wow, good episode, last nights didnt have that effect, it ended and I went to the loo..It did feel slightly disappointing.

Looking forward to what I can only assume is Hammond driving the Renauilt F1 car.

edit: next weeks episode sounds good, they have to each buy a car made undeer british leyland and do challenges:p Judging from the 3 screenshots on the website its the one where when you watch the clip of whats in this series, hammond leaps from a car going backwards down a hill.
 
If that is the case, makes you wonder what they would go after. Cars like the MGB and Spitfire come to mind as something easy to come by, but it almost seems like a no-brainier that Clarkson will find a Land Rover of some kind.

We'll see, should be good for a laugh!

No, this is all stuff that wasn't finished for the last series when there was the small matte rof Hammonds dragster crash which kind of put a ot of stuff unfinished either on hold or in the bin. I guess this is just the stuffthat went on hold they decided to finish in the editing studio.

That's what I'd have assumed, but I happened to be reading this month's Top Gear mag today, and stumbled apon something in the Lifers section that would say otherwise. I was reading a bit on the Civic Type R, and the journalist (can't remember who it was) said that Clarkson had called him not long before the time of writing and asked to borrow it for a road test, which would be shown 'later in the series'. It was still badged as "hello", so I assume the article was pretty recent.

Interestingly, he liked it far more than Clarkson. Didn't have a bad word to say, if I recall correctly. Not even about the ride.
 
I wasn't so much referring to the Civic test, more the Alfa test which was filmed a long time ago.
 
Anyone else notice during the estate test Clarkson says the AMG has a 6.2L V8 when it says 6.3 on the fender? Or am I just reading that wrong?
 
It really is a 6.2 liter engine, but Mercedes badges it as a 6.3 because of the 1960s 300SEL 6.3.

Oh, and I was a bit disappointed they didn't give them a run around the TG track. They still haven't run the "regular" E63, which I find disappointing...
 
It wasn't all that great an episode but then again it's still sooooo much better than whatever they would've done in an American Top Gear. :dopey:
 
Clarkson was on the Chris Moyles Show on Radio One this morning talking well...about "stuff".

Company says production car's adjustable suspension will clear speed bumps

Caparo, maker of the outlandish T1, has asked Top Gear for another crack at the programme’s Power Lap leader board.

The T1 set a lap time of 1:10.6 - seven seconds quicker than the Koenigsegg CCX which held the previous record.

However the rules state a car is only allowed on the leader board if it can drive over a speed bump.

Top Gear’s makers decided the Caparo T1 would be unable to do this and removed it from the top of the leader board.

Caparo now claims the production car will be fitted with an adjustable suspension and will therefore be eligible for the Power Lap.

Angad Paul, chief executive officer of Caparo, said: 'We certainly hope that the Caparo T1 is given another chance by Top Gear to take its rightful place at the top of the leader board; even if they put a speed bump on the track we are confident of our success.

The vehicle’s designer, Ben Scott-Geddes added: 'The model we supplied to Top Gear was one of our final engineering vehicles without adjustable ride height and electronic active driver control systems which are standard on our production models.

'When driver’s select the "road" setting, the car is more tractable in slower speed conditions and the ride height is fully adjustable to bring the car up to 90mm clearance, making it more than capable of driving over speed bumps.'

But the Caparo could face stiff opposition if another car, the Ultima GTR720, gets a chance at the Power Lap leader board.

British supercar manufacturer Ultima recently celebrated its 15th anniversary by smashing the lap record on the Top Gear test track.

The Ultima used was fully road legal, with standard tyres, and was even driven to the test track.

Ultima’s director, Richard Marlow, said the company has approached Top Gear on a number of occasions to let the Stig take the wheel of the GTR but has been repeatedly turned down.

They used their own benchmark driver to get the independent figure of 1:12.8, two seconds off the Caparo.

But Mr Marlow wouldn’t rule out further attempts at an even quicker lap with their more powerful and faster GTR800 variant.

Another funny episode, loved the handbrake test.

Though I think Jeremy is having a laugh on saying the DBS is practical spacewise, didn't we disprove that at the Ocho with Roo having to take Steve's bag to the station as it wouldn't fit in the DBS?
 
Great episode. It was hilarious when Jeremy was trying to drive the Rover up the hill to apply the handbrake. :lol: And the way the cars crumbled on the ride quality test!

That's exactly what I was thinking.

They should also have filled up a new car, perhaps the Lacetti, with water to see the difference between then and now.
 
Hmm, yes the DBS wasn't LAN taxi practical, good ride though.
 
Was an OK episode, I mean you cant expect them to go to the moon or something every episode! Was a return to a bit of the old style of Top Gear which was nice!... doing crazy stuff all the time would just get repetitive.

The best bit was of course the Leyland cars... that Rover SD1 is really sweet! The Police used to use them loads like in the 80's. I loved the bit where he opened the door and it was still there! and when all the bits fell off their cars when going over the rough road!! hahahaha :lol: I nearly fell off my seat when Clarksons back door came off the first time!

:lol: and James getting lost on the Mira test track!

Clarkson's comment about cupping James May's scrotum was hilarious! I loved the way Hammond said (grimacing) "I'm having trouble shifting that image from my head, Jeremy!" and May replied "You're having trouble?!"
