Seinfield would be bad... unless they want to prove to the UK that the US really can't take good humor.

-> Unless the US adapts the no-holds-barred commentary as what the UK has, the USDM (Top) Gear will never be as good as the BBC's version, it may suck! :scared:

Well, its already on a rocky edge according to Top Gear themselves:

Top Gear
In America the issue is different, because although our show isn't well known there, the ones who do know it are hardcore fans - particularly the peeps on Final Gear. They are very strict about our output and performances, and I noticed quite a few even slating us for Top Gear Ground Force. Actually I'm with them, because we're not great when we have to be performing monkeys, but it was a bit of a party piece for charity so you'll have to forgive us.

Now although Final Gear live in fear of BBC lawyers cos they always nick the show, I know that NBC would be as chuffed as nuts if they liked the US version, which is sort of an indicator as to how seriously NBC are taking the issue. Mostly networks just aim for the broad audience and forget the hardcore.

So will we satisfy the US diehards? Dunno, but partly it's up to them. If they just compare everything in the US show to what Jeremy, Richard and James do, they'll be disappointed, because those three did get their first and they are the bollocks at it.

If, on the other hand, they take Top Gear US for what it is - a bunch of guys, hopefully with their own proper relationship, just looking at car stuff in America, but in the Top Gear way - they may like it. And our version will always be there anyway.

As for hosts, we have Adam and Tanner. Adam is a force of nature, whereas Tanner is quieter, but he has a wicked, dry wit not many have seen yet. And, most important of all, he and Adam, as completely different animals, really bond in a way I couldn't have hoped for so quickly.

He's also unsullied by TV presenterishness, which is another bonus. So we're looking for that elusive third person, and the relationship is everything.

I keep telling the US BBC guys to forget the American Reality shows they know- Survivor, Apprentice - which are all based on arguments and voting, and instead think about the guys in Sideways, or Cheers, or Friends.

Think about the celebration of failure in The Simpsons, because Top Gear is not just about cars, it's also about celebrating that massive Black Hole of Pointlessness that is the male mind.

So, Adam Corolla and Tanner Foust? I can see why they're having problems... Don't get me wrong, Corolla would be awesome in this deal, but they still are missing some HUGE pieces of the puzzle.

IMO: They're going to be better off just importing the UK version edited slightly for the US market. Its working just fine on BBC America...

Only 1 week until the first episode

Yup, its going to be good.

Episode Information, in spoiler text so those who don't want to read it don't have to.
The very latest Top Gear news and views from the usual team. Jeremy, Richard and James apply their minds to the question of what the British police should drive. At the moment Bobbies are forced to drive around in diesel hatchbacks, gingerly shuffling the steering wheel and letting criminals get away rather than risk scuffing their wheel trims. So, armed with no more than 1000 pounds each, the Top Gear boys set out to buy a bargain priced police cruiser that can take part in a dramatic chase without fear of costing the tax payer a packet if it gets broken. Meanwhile, James introduces a new member of the Top Gear team and steps aside so they can immediately make their mark on the show with a remarkable feat of daring. And as if that wasn't enough, Jeremy tears up the Top Gear track in the new Ferrari 430 Scuderia, the car that aims to put some passion back into the Italian supercar maker's increasingly nerdy and computerised stable. Plus, there's a break from the norm as the Reasonably Priced Car welcomes a pair of stars in the contrasting shapes of the Friday Night Project's Alan Carr and Justin Lee Collins. All this, and some sound advice about how to deal with rising petrol prices. Top Gear is longer, stronger, faster, better and probably a bit more on fire than ever before.

Autoblog
Top Gear has just officially announced who will be hosting the U.S. version of the popular car show born in the UK and now officially scheduled to appear on NBC sometime this fall, and the winners are... (drum roll, please): Adam Carolla, Tanner Foust and Eric Stromer. Everyone knows Adam Carolla, of course, having watched him hit the big time hosting The Man Show with Jimmy Kimmel. He now hosts his own nationally-syndicated radio show called "The Adam Carolla Show". Tanner Foust brings some actual professional driving cred to the show with a resume that includes stunt driving in "The Bourne Ultimatum," "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" and "The Dukes of Hazard". He's also a winning rally driver, has medaled in the 2007 X-Games and hosted "Supercars Exposed" on the SPEED Channel. Eric Stomer was the last to be cast and when you see him, you'll probably say "I know that guy." He's hosted an HGTV show called "Over Your Head", was a former soap-opera actor and spent a lot of time in construction (and on construction-related TV shows). Guess we'll pick him to win the amphibious vehicle challenges. We surmise that producers may have picked Stromer because he's a hunk of man meat, but also because he can bring in a big female audience from his time spent on HGTV.

The press release after the jump also reveals what each host drives, and as you would imagine, Carolla (who will now be referred to as Jezza Jr.) sports a garage full of Lamborghinis, Maseratis, two Ferraris and an Audi S4. Foust makes do with a simple, tricked out BMW M3. Stromer... a Camry Hybrid. Something tells us Stromer better come equipped with a thick skin. So what do you think? Does Top Gear USA now appear better suited for success or does the show have Bucket of Fail written all over it?

I'm at least interested in giving it a strong chance. It'll never be as good as the "real" thing (that's what the internet is for), but yeah, I'm willing to give it a shot. I still think Adam will be great, as will Tanner. The new guy clearly is the James May of the group... It should be good, but yeah, we'll see.

What what what? You’re comparing James May – who pilots an airplane, drives a Porsche Boxter, wears the same ugly pink-and-purple jumper all the time, hosts shows about Legos and astronauts and transistor radios, and knows the exact word to describe scraping the skin off of one’s shin (barked) – to a soap star with a Camry hybrid? I mean, a soap star with a Camry hybrid… christ…

Good lord... UK and Europe please don't laugh at us too hard... I know you guys do for everything else already...

Who's the douche in the middle with the EMO shirt...?

US Top Gear will suck, mark my words on that one, just because they have to accept sponsorship dollars. I'll stick with the original one from the UK.

You should read his article in the Telegraph Motoring supplement. It's a whole host of ranting that eventually links up to something car related. Oh yeah and don't forget he owns a Fiat Panda

I suspect there's going to be a TopGear cat and it'll have to run infront of a Bugatti Veyron doing 240mph at a distance of less than 10m.

That's the Stromer guy from the home-improvement shows. It can't be that bad. I'm calling a James May on him, I could be wrong, but meh. It seems quite clear that Corolla is Jezza and Foust would be Hammond. I don't know what other way it would be.

Still, no bad feelings towards James May. He and I would get along impeccably...

Looks like Sunday's show is going to be good. I can't wait!

Robin

And the Badger racing a Tiger...

Anyway, only 3 Hours 25 Minutes and 10 seconds left now....

Oh man, tough call tonight - Top Gear clashes with the Italy v Spain Quarter Final, and I just discovered that the repeat is on Friday night at 9pm :ouch: What genius thought a Friday night repeat was a good idea? What was wrong with Mondays or Tuesdays, I wonder?

Ah the joys of living in the US, I can watch both :D

The TV guide says they are going to show some suggestions for what the UK Police force SHOULD be driving..... this is going to be interesting!

and a new member of the team.... possibly a new stig? return of TG dog? I don't really want a 4th guy... maybe a hot chick! :sly:

I'm guessing it's some sort of new pet.

Topgear, its sounds to be a good one. Also were only getting 6 episodes this series so better take advantage of it. 👍

And just record the late night footie match and then watch it on Saturday morning. :)

EDIT: And BTW it isn't a pet, or a new presenter. Someone similar to the Stig-yness,

Maybe that German chick that drove around the Ring then?

Maybe that German chick that drove around the Ring then?

Nah, she has her own TV Motoring show in Germany. Although she will appear in this series of Topgear.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and find out.

I am going to use iplayer to watch TG and watch the match live.

No doubt Clarkson will say something about the football.... :sly:

Damn... We don't have that here in the US!

Well, looks like I'll be staying up late to find it elsewhere...
