Unannounced 2.06 Changes

Wow, no ABS feels like it finally can be used now that we have patch 2.06!

I spent quite a while setting a good lap around Laguna Seca with a stock NSX last week under v2.05, got very familiar with the car and in particular the two really tricky braking zones (first corner where the straight curves and banks with reverse camber, and of course braking to the corkscrew).

Last week it took a struggle and braking very timidly to get the car stopped for either of these fearsome corners. Today with the 2.06 patch but otherwise identical settings (BB 2:1) I could comfortably use 60-70% brake and then ease off, just like I would expect, and the car behaved impeccably. I was able to lap consistently, where last week I was struggling with wildly varying laptimes.

Additionally, the car seemed to react to the road bumps, hills and camber changes more violently than before, so while I outbraked my ghost easily enough, I found it harder to hold speed through some of the other sections compared to my ghost.

My Fanatec GT2 (set to FFB 2/10 in game, 100% on wheel) is now giving me better feel of car weight/balance, without any loss of track surface information (although I agree rumble strips are very lightly felt now). This current patch is a huge step forwards for GT5.

Maybe you should apply for their sound dept.

Why would he?
In what part of his text do you even see mentioned that he knows how to work with game sounds?
What he typed simply states what most of GT enthusiasts want, realistic sounds ingame.
What you said makes no sense, guy.

its no glitch, its a rear foglight.

:dunce:

1: not a rear foglight hahahaha
2: it was caused by crash damage
3: the reason I took a photo was to ask how long this type of damage had been around
4: at what point did anyone say it was a glitch?

It's not a crash damage.
The light looks the same in GT4.

My two bits , My feel to the game is unbiased since you guys are getting placebo effects and what not and i had put gt5 on hiatus for the past month. From what i played the day the patch came out the cars feel more loose over all and more dynamic than before, to prove my theory the game now allows a certain degree of wheel Spin and skid without burning rubber.
Cars are glossier all around .
lighting was changed.
Overall smoother game
No placebo here .. and I nit pick my games XD

Maybe the car they modeled ACTUALLY had a broken taillight and they are just THAT anal. lol

ABS=0 is feeling so sweet, just blasted a V12 LMP BMW [RHx6F1R] around Spa in the rain, she feels real good.

I play with a controller though which makes playing without ABS difficult since the brakes are basically on/off, but still interesting to see the dynamics of the programming.

Not entirely true. Every face button (triangle, circle, X, square) on the Playstation controller is pressure sensitive. It depends on how hard you press those buttons. You can easily control throttle and brake with those buttons. The same thing while steering with directional buttons. I still play with the original GT/GT2 control scheme with ABS off and never had difficulty braking. If you find it difficult, like diegorborges suggested, you should try using the right analog stick for braking/accelerating.

I played GT5 with a hand controller and never used ABS, I could brake accurately, 30% to 100%, no problem. I always threshold brake in every corner, my BB for most street cars is 5/3, for some race car I could have 7/4, and I seldom have wheel lock up. I used my old PS2 dual shock with a converter, the pressure sensitive face buttons are great, circle for gas and triangle for brakes, R1/L1 for shifting.

PS2 analogs are more resistant and precise, good idea, but im a sucker for lightweight and wireless DS3!

But face buttons???? No way it matches analogs range of control.

O and triangle , thats a very 'Japanese' layout lol.

Yes it does, I can precisely apply brake force, a quarter bar, half bar, three quarter bar or full easily. I did all my GTA times without ABS as well. My DS2 stick need 3 times more pressure strength for full brake/gas than my DS3.

Those DS2 controllers were nice, but pressure sensitivity varied greatly from one controller to another. One of mine DS2s was almost totally digital. I had to buy a second one for GT4.

For the DS3 I'm using L2/R2 for braking and acceleration. It works wonders for me. I use the right analogue to shift.

Back on topic, the DS3 has a different vibration feel. More subtle, but having some feedback for road surfaces that wasn't there before.

I used my DS2 that came with my PS2 slim, it has smoother surfaced D pad face button and the face buttons-triangle,square,circle, cross can be pressed deeper, guess that's the main difference. My other DS2 has about the same pressure sensitive as my DS3, it has coarse D pad face buttons.

Thats really only 4 possible inputs, and what is in between? Plus the comfort issue...

To show you how I drive with my DS2, I did a free run at Suzuka weather change, with a Nissan Fairlady 350Z '07 premium, fully stock, comfort medium, BB 5/3, tire wear on, heavy rain with 50% water. I did 2 laps, second lap the track is drying up, note the brake and acceleration modulation throughout the track.
Now if only there race series with no ABS, tire wear, non modified car, and comfort medium tires ...

What have they done? I can't hear anymore the exhaust sound of my SLS in cockpit view!
It was perfect before this update, why PD? Why you have to ruin something every update?
Please put it back as it was in 2.05.

There is something in the works, contact JDMKING13 about PGTR league.

I saw JDMKING13 threads about PGTR, it does have assists .... I did couple of races at Driversports hosted by Forgetful, they were great, no assists allowed, no ABS aid, full heavy damage, fuel/tire wear, clean races, long laps. Is there any race events that use non modified cars within 400-500pp range, comfort tires and no assist allowed, full damage, fuel/tire wear ? or any time trial with similar rules ... my goal is not to win, but to have good time driving.

How was my replay ? Slow right ... without any aids ...

Cars are much quieter in cockpit view now, I'm not liking this!!
Also when you look back, the volumes been boosted and it's pretty loud!

Yes we do allow assist however If you run ABS 1 then 9/10 you have to run with ASM on because ABS is more of a stability control in my league. I don't think you read it clearly If you run your car with no ASM which most people do then the ABS has to be off in my league. Basically we run no ABS but there are some people who cannot race with ABS off so instead of excluding them they still can join but if they have ABS 1 on they have to have on the ASM to mock the stability. As Gus said we run with NO assist fixed BB and correct tires for each car. Join us you will not be disappointed.

Both standard and premium SL's have the same light on.

Care to explain?

That sounds good to me, send me an FR to GTP_Orido, let me know if there's an event coming up :)

Oh great, here we go. If you really want to... (apologies in advance for this thread being thrown even more off topic. PM me in future)

I was at my friend's house looking at his GT photos on the XMB and I KNEW I'd seen a pic of his SL with that light filled, so just for you guys I emailed him asking for the pic and he was kind enough to send:

The tornado guy seems to have an answer for everything so let's hope he stays on topic this time :sly: In fact to stop any argument back and forth between me and you (in the interest of protecting this thread) this is his PSN: v-tec_your_ass you can contact him direct

But the car is braking in that picture

Drove the VW GTI RM in a seasonal in cocpit view.

Looked great, but the sound was what really got my attention. Using a powerful 7.1 home theater.. I cranked it up to about -12db and this room transformed into the inside of a high strung FF racecar. I was using gated shifter and clutch too, sitting close to a 52'' screen in a racing cockpit which helps, but the whole thing felt and sounded great.

Force feedback, physics/ tire model, sound, GFX- whatever they changed, I'm liking this update.

Is there a list of standard cars with this "brighter cockpit" fix? So far none of my standards seem any brighter....I looked at the Mclaren F1 GTR, Ruf's, Supra, BMW M3, etc and they all are still black as all get out.
