Sometimes dreams are worth holding on to even if they are only for a chance at the brass ring. My life will be consumed by this challenge and I will truly have to climb into a hole and not come out until I make the cut or go down in the blaze of glory. Chances like this have to be looked at positively and forcefully.

for those of you who haven't set a world record, let me give you a glimpse of what it took me.

the london track can be done in around 55 seconds, but let's round up to 1 min for the sake of calculations. for around 8 hours a day, for two weeks i played nonstop. that's 6,720 laps total. that brought me to 1st place but my record was beat the next day. i was able to regain the title the day after but i fell to third about two weeks later. the process just repeats.

this gt academy will be filled with insane gamers and drivers. best of luck!

It should be interesting to see how many American iRacers come out of the woodworks to compete in the Academy.

Just a heads up - there are quite a few American Iracing member's (a few competing in the Iracing World Drivers Championship) who are super quick and will undoubtedly be at an advantage with the similarities between iRacing physics and GT5's physics, if they do decide to compete (because GT5P and the current GT5 physics are nothing alike). I'm expecting a much more competitive TT this time around than the previous GT5Demo TT, simply due to what is on the line in this case :) I know I've improved by a large margin since then and I'm sure cpp214 and others have as well...so it should be interesting! 👍

Good luck to you all

I'm really looking forward to this. Last time I didn't put in much time, was in the top 50 (tuned) at one point, but work got in the way and I didn't play again other than once or twice for an hour. Part of it was...... the prize wasn't worth it....... this time it is. And I'm sure there are a lot of others with that mind set who will try a lot harder this time, it's going to be a really tough competition.

I also really hate how they are allowing people to use controllers up until round 4, it should be wheels only.

You can edit a thread title by either going to the first post and editing it, or when viewing the GT5 forum, double-click anywhere in the beige background of the row holding your thread's title 👍

Thanks, I see now.
And thanks to whoever changed it for me.

And concerning the competition, just like the TT the guys who put forth the most effort, or time, will be on top. That is the problem with week to month long TT's. We should be set on a timer or given so many laps I think.

Crap, Nebraska is in the west? Lol. I hope I can manage top 20, again. Good luck to everyone! Time for me to lose some more weight. Lol!

99.9% of all whom enter will either have a G25 or 27, that will make things a lot harder.

What are the chances of me winning guys? I have no racing experience, i only played gt5p.

I have a g27 wheel, how good you guys think i can get?

Go for it. The biggest hurdle will be making it to and past the national finals. After that it's a whole new ball game since there's going to be a lot more factors involved in selecting winners.

This'll be fun :) Sorry Canada, would have loved to compete with you guys. Or, rather, all of North and South America. Of course, it'll be those unfortunate people over in Japan who are the most pissed. They've by far bought the most copies of GT games per capita.

Europe: 1 copy for every 28 people
North America: 1 copy for every 26 people
Japan: 1 copy for every 13 people

Makes sense from a marketing stand point, they could probably release GT5 in Japan without a single ad or announcement and it wouldn't affect sales. Still doesn't seem very fair for them though :(

Speaking of sales, think of what this is going to do to US sales! Having this TV show air on SPEED (50% NASCAR) is probably going to bring a butt-load of new players, especially NASCAR fans once they see that GT5 features their favorite sport

I'm pretty sure I was somewhere around 32-38. Set that time using a Sixaxis controller, but my times with a wheel shortly after were close.
You got it right- 32nd. The US leader board is one of the pages on this great site made by a very helpful chap here on gtplanet:

Fastest controller time in the US, nice work:tup:

I remember when this demo came out last December and all the excitement, it felt like GT5 was right around the corner with a March release date. Next week will be a good week:cool:

Needless to say my hands were tired for a while.

BTW, anyone know where I can pick up a G27 at a reasonable price? Best Buys website says they are on backorder.

There was some promotion on the logitech website where you entered some code and you could get one for something like $200. I forget the code. You may want to search the forums.

I was going to post the same thing. Those who have to put in many hours at work *whistles* are at a big disadvantage against, say college students who are on break during that time. They should put like a 6 hour timer (or like you said Dapper 100 laps :)) per console (so you can't sign in with a different account and get another 6 hours) on the competition, just like the timer they used for their demos. Then it would be equal.

But that's not to take anything from Carl and the other winners, they fully deserved those wins and I fully expect back to back wins!

I think you're referring to the 25% code that Jordan posted on the front page last month. That's since expired.

I don't know whether to be excited about getting a chance to drive real race cars in a real race or to be depressed knowing I will spend hours upon mind melting hours driving lap after lap trying to shave off time. Not participating in the challenge is not an option either. How could I NOT play and NOT take a shot at winning a spot in a real race car?

I participated in the last TT challenge for a chance to win tickets to Indy and placed ~120. I got a late start and played 4 hours everyday after work. I know I will have to play ALOT more to get in the finals.

Well, better get started on my new racing sim station. TO HOME DEPOT!

He has been very quiet :nervous:

Well, to be honest, I'll have to get up to speed to even be in contention this time. As Brock (Timeattack) pointed out earlier, I fully expect the U.S. iRacing aliens to be out in full force for this competition, and I really think the competition is going to be fierce. Dapper, EL_ZISSOU, Timeattack, drama-kyd, Z06fun and many others are going to be extremely tough. Sorry for leaving anyone out, and I'm sure there will be many new names and faces that will rise to the top this time around.

To be honest, I've got to agree with what you and Jerome were talking about, in terms of the amount of time people can and will spend on the competition. Some people are able to devote huge amounts of time while others aren't. When I met Bruno--the Canadian and overall North American winner of the TT demo--we were both curious about how much time we each had spent on the competition. I added it up in my head and I spent about 50 hours altogether on the demo. Bruno said he spent about the same amount of time. That's a lot of time to devote to a game. I'm sure not everyone was able or willing to spend that much time. So I do agree that maybe some type of time limit would be a good idea.

In any event, this is going to be a great competition, can't wait :)

Jerome

The only issue with this is that you might get someone who used up their quota and then decides to get another console just to get the extra 6 hours or hundred laps. Then it becomes a spending game just like real motor-racing...

Carl, I'll take my humble pie cold please. :) Glad to hear you are giving it a shot. Only one to chime in now is El ZZZzzz! :D
