So it starts the 20th of december, but how long does it usually last for you to be able to set a time? Only a month of practice!
Anyone willing to get on some trainage?
That sounds like me. Hehehehe. I have work but its only from 10-5 M-R.
Well, to be honest, I'll have to get up to speed to even be in contention this time. As Brock (Timeattack) pointed out earlier, I fully expect the U.S. iRacing aliens to be out in full force for this competition, and I really think the competition is going to be fierce. Dapper, EL_ZISSOU, Timeattack, drama-kyd, Z06fun and many others are going to be extremely tough. Sorry for leaving anyone out, and I'm sure there will be many new names and faces that will rise to the top this time around.
To be honest, I've got to agree with what you and Jerome were talking about, in terms of the amount of time people can and will spend on the competition. Some people are able to devote huge amounts of time while others aren't. When I met Bruno--the Canadian and overall North American winner of the TT demo--we were both curious about how much time we each had spent on the competition. I added it up in my head and I spent about 50 hours altogether on the demo. Bruno said he spent about the same amount of time. That's a lot of time to devote to a game. I'm sure not everyone was able or willing to spend that much time. So I do agree that maybe some type of time limit would be a good idea.
In any event, this is going to be a great competition, can't wait![]()
Why is there so little interest over there in North America about this?
I'll have to say that the only reason I bought a PS3 and a steering wheel is because of GT Academy and the chance to get a professional race driving contract with a European based motorsport team.
Otherwise GT4, the PS2 and a couple of PC-based racing games would've suited me (and plenty of others) just fine...
wow, nice one.. have fun guys and if not already, start to go to gym.![]()
Hey Carl!
Will be seeing you on the grid soon!!!

I don't think you've read the title properly. It says USA. Think about what you are asking.
+1I think once the registrations begin, you'll see this thread grow. I still vote for it to be a sticky.
Get one as soon as possible and start practising on anything you can. I was the only one from my national final who didn't have a steering wheel prior to the Australiasian/European GT Academy Time Trial and I barely made it through to qualify (bar one person who made it through with a controller in New Zealand).Well I'm so interested!! I just wish they gave more time to practice. I've never used a wheel, so this is gunna be tough.
Lol take it easy there dude. Timmpaq is one of the quickest guys from Finland and arguably the world - http://gtdb.net/?tt. He knows full well that this is U.S. only and he's only giving encouragement to anyone interested. Might be an idea to know who it is you're talking to before you type something outI don't think you've read the title properly. It says USA. Im excited about GT Academy I know several people from the online community that are excited about GT5 that will make noise, not only with this competition, but just with online as well. Not that Im out to save Americas name or anything, but I think the thing Im most excited about is proving that we have some wheelmen in the US.
I think if Sony, PD and Nissan decide to hold a proper worldwide GT Academy we can all finally settle this pub debate for good.![]()

What if just what if all the top 36 are Gt Planet members. That would be gran..
I am afraid I can't be apart as I had finished skip barber racing school and have gotten up to the Koni Challenge series for a couple of events. I raced at Road America a few times as well as Mid-Ohio. I asked a long time ago about the GT academy, but that is okay, I just like playing the game.. and watching for new talent that would blow by me on a track any day.
I think for most karters and open wheel starts like skip barber, Formula BMW, Renault and such, I think for the younger people, you can still get into it even if you already race. I am not sure... I hope we can more details soon on this...
Yes that's true but none from the states, how many people we have as members that live in the states? Maybe 2500 or more?, so think of the odds. There is a 40 to 1 or better odds that the top 36 will all be members of GT Planet. Most of the TT top finalist were 👍

I think you can still compete as long as you haven't had a national b license (or equivalent) in real life.
EDIT - From the official rules:
"...must not have previously held a National A or superior MSA license or equivalent in another FIA recognized ASN and not have competed in a national level Karting Championship for more than two full seasons."
Does anyone have any clarification on the level of these licenses compared to SCCA Competition Licenses? I've held an SCCA National license in the past, any thoughts on if this bump me from the competition?
Cheers!

I'm guessing a National A license would equal to the highest national license you can obtain in your region (any higher would be international?).
If you've got the time you can try contact Sony North America and ask them for clarification![]()
I see now sorry..I was talking about the US TT.
