There was to much uncertainty at SBR for the Giz, I have been hearing reports that the Mercedes/ SBR/ Erebus pot is not cooking well,

My understanding is in this dot point form,

*Mercedes Benz Australia is providing the finances for the Mercedes Benz section of the deal, Apparently this was done without the blessing of Mercedes/ AMG head quarter's in Germany,

* Erebus is the only motor sport group in Australia that deals with Mercedes "factory" support, none of which comes from Munich,

* It's believed that Jimmy and Ross Stone jumped the gun on signing the Mercedes deal,

* The Stone brother's and other SBR team officials were invited Germany to see the AMG factory, only one brother and 3 team members went to the factory tour,

* Whilst the Mercedes factory tour its been said that the other brother and 2 team officials went to the other side of town "BMW"

* All SBR team members return to Australia, its announced SBR is going through a naming change suggesting a sale,

*Sydney its confirmed the team is sold, Jimmy is doing one thing, Ross is doing another, but both parties share equal interest in Matt Stone Racing in the DVS,

* As of January 1st SBR is now known as Erebus Motorsport, Therefore Shane Van Gisbergen is not contracted to SBR anymore, as SBR does not exist any more, All SBR drivers were offered to drive for Erebus first it was entirely up to them,

*Contracts with erebus are reported to be a minimum two year's, Perhaps to long for Shane,

My Conclusion,
SBR signed with Mercedes expecting full AMG/ Mercedes Germany support, as it was only financial from Mercedes Australia and no technical support from AMG in Germany,

As the deal was already signed they stressed out and sold the team,

SBR may return to V8SC in 2014 or 2015, but as Matt Stone Racing, Most likely with a BMW, seeing as its believed that while the team was over in Germany car regs and specs were delivered personally by Stone brother's officials,

so 2015 I'm expecting Matt Stone Racing to go to the main game as a stepping stone for BMW to come to V8SC, Much like BMW and Williams deal from 2000 - 2005,

BMW don't do a 5 litre V8 though 💡
 
the new rules aren't restricted to 5.0 litre or 5000cc,they are open as long as its a production base engine, Holden are allowed to use the Corvette 7.0 litre engine, I believe Erebus are using the current spec engine, but they have the option to use the 6.3 litre, ford will eventually use the 5.5 litre Miami V8,

What about the S62B50 in the old E39 M5? Old but could be developed.

Also, interesting read Dave. Never thought of it that way.

When I heard Ross and Jimmy were stepping down and the SBR name would be no more, I was worried.

However, I thought Kilmenko funded the programme and not MB AUS?

However the engine will be reduced in capacity to 5.0 litres - matching that of the Fords and Holdens it will line up alongside on the grid - and be heavily modified for race use.

Nissan are using a destroked 5.6 same with merc, biggest BMW do is a 4.4 so will need a stroker kit at least.

What about the BMW engine that Daytona Prototypes use or is that out? I will admit I don't know all the ends and outs of the rules but I would think if BMW wants to play they will find a way to get an engine in their that will be up to par on both specs and HP.

These are only the current specification guide lines to keep the current "box" engine competitive so the smaller teams that cant afford to develop a new engine configuration, They maybe changed when the development race slows down and people can get on engine rotation plans at affordable prices,

As for BMW, they have the resources in the M division garage to make a 5 litre to spec's, and with 2 years development would be a tough competitor,
 
As the Aussie V8's seem to be getting more popular every year I thought it's only right to make a thread on them. I've searched but nothing really came up. There is only 1 Guideline to follow which is

Keep all race info etc to this one thread, so that there aren't heaps of threads on this one topic

For those who don't know what V8 Supercars are.

V8 Supercars is just another name for the Australian Touring Car Championship. It consists of two makes of cars, Holden and Ford. The close and fierce racing nature makes for good moves and big crashes. Always exiting. They race in various places around Australia and in 1 place in New Zealand.

That's the basics of V8 Supercars.

As said in the title this thread is for posting results and general talk on V8 Supercars

and a fruitful discussion, but there parameters between the holden and ford the holden car in the class and more than 530 pp, ja ford in his class has more competitors.

All the quotes state that they would look at it not that they would so regs are still stating 5 litres.

Holden already tried the 7 litre route which didn't go down well.

When did that happen? since 1995 the engines have all come in a box from England, which was the official inception of the category into the ATCC, before then it was the Ford 5.8 against what was the largest Chevrolet engine at the time,

02-04 GRM Monaro

At Bathurst 24hr in 02-03 and nations cup in 04.

Other teams complained they were too fast in 02 so they were made to run 36mm restrictors and limited to 7000rpm. It then went out and cracked off a 2:14, it came back into the pits and the scrutineers were all over the thing and checked the logs expecting to see 7500rpm but discovered it only went as high has 5500rpm.

It was then banned as Holden never made the 25 intended road cars.

But that whole thing was BS, the 458 has got the tin top lap record at 2.04.XXX which was done 2 years ago,

Supposed to be moving to Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport, following their expansion to two cars this year.

Actually none came to the uk i managed to track all the cars, the UK car was built in the uk and did run a 427 aswell but was heavily restricted,its currently up for sale as well for 60k

Its a shame Holden don't make the car that was made to call Fords bluff, in which that Ford 300+ Falcon should have been made, bone heads, both cars are still desirable on the market today,

That's a GT3 Ford against a Grand-Am Rolex spec Camaro.

💡 They're nothing alike.

The Camaro's got thinner tires, less downforce, and a tubeframe...

The Ford GT's got thick tires, more downforce, and a street car frame.
 
Anyone know if they plan on televising or streaming the February test?

I bet you could make that into the greatest show on wheels, if you gave the GT2 spec cars GT1 horsepower figures and an absurd amount of weight. :sly: :dopey::crazy:
