Where would it go?

In terms of population distribution, the eastern coast of Australia is most dense. There's small clusters in Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and Tasmania, but all of the major population centres have exposure to the series. Even places like Newcastle do, being no more than an hour and a half away from Eastern Creek. There are a few places west of the Great Dividing Range like Tamworth and Armidale, but they are too small and the surrounding areas too sparsely populated. Likewise the Shoalhaven-Illawarra region and everything from Wollongong to the Victorian border. The only two possible areas are the Mid-North Coast, but the population is typically older and while there are large clusters in Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay, they are really spread out. The other would be Albury-Wodonga on the Victorian border, but it faces similar problems to Tamworth, Armidale and the New England region, even if it is home to Brad Jones Racing.

And sure, there are other areas of other states, but this money is coming from the New South Wales state government.

The problem is as you said yourself the funding that they were given by the Gov't isn't enough and hardly scratches the surface for one. And that is with facilities already in place that they wouldn't need money to put in if from scratch.

I'm not savvy in all that is Australia, as you know I don't live there and you rattling off different areas isn't really going to help. However, I can base it on how things are done in other regions that I do know, that are potentially just as populated. And the problem I see with your analysis is that rather than expand playing the safest route is probably best, but then why? IF there are potential markets out there in NZ and Australia they should be used to have permanent venues or refresh no longer used venues. I just think the idea like the Indy 500/Indy GP is like double dipping from the pot as if people are going to pay double to see both. It might work but I don't think it will, but we'll see.

The obvious hope is that investment in the project will ease the doubts of any potential investors and encourage them to get involved.

Excited for the racing this weekend. When these guys take a break, they really take a break in the schedule. Feels like the last race weekend was months ago.

Tell me about it. Looking forward to the weekend, Le Mans and Nascar are great and all but I need my V8 fix.

Primary AMG branding for Erebus at Darwin.
Erebus Motorsport’s V8 Supercars will run AMG Customer Sports branding for the first time this weekend amid ongoing discussions over a fresh deal between the parties.

Erebus’ V8 Supercars effort began last season under a two-year agreement with AMG Customer Sports and Mercedes-Benz Australia which has seen its cars permitted to feature factory badging but no other AMG or Mercedes-Benz signage.
Although confirming that a new deal to extend the relationships beyond 2014 has yet to be reached, Erebus CEO Ryan Maddison told Speedcafe.com that the look of the cars in Darwin is a sign of the positive nature of the ongoing discussions.

Following the granting of approval, Erebus has elected to display the AMG Customer Sports logos across the doors and the bonnets of both the Lee Holdsworth and Will Davison driven entires at Hidden Valley as the team continues to operate without regular primary sponsors.

what a missed opportunity at Winton. Now is better than never. Next, get em in Gran Turismo

There is always the massive NIMBY problem too. It would be very hard to see a new circuit start from scratch nowadays.

The only viable place in the state would be somewhere west of Newcastle.

Back to back 10 minute qualifying sessions for this afternoon's two races are about to start.

Edit: Tander qualified in the top ten for a change, 5th.

Races don't look encouraging based on those qualifying results. 8 Holdens in the top 10 for race 2. :(

Live stream doesn't appear to be working. :grumpy:

Edit: actually, the schedule on the website was wrong. They have the local and AEDT times swapped...

Should be a good race 1.

Based on how first race went, I dare say that race 2 will be pretty similar.
Well the live stream isn't working anyway, so I'm going to bed.

Well FYI it's Red Bull 1-2 at the moment. So, yeah.

And of course Courtney has to have problems, was 5th now 13th. :indiff: At least Tander is near the front for a change.

Glad I went to sleep. The problem with this track is that it's so hard to pass, if you qualify up front and get a good start, you've pretty much got it locked up. Unfortunately for us that means Whincup is unstoppable. :indiff:

Expecting the longer race this afternoon to be better watching. Tyre strategy should (hopefully) mix things up a bit.

I was surprised to see where EMV8 qualified in race 1. I figured Pye, Mostert, even the NISSANS to be slightly ahead.

The tyre thing is silly. For LDM to fart around on used tyres just to get max points for Sunday, is silly.

At least Tander is racey to take points from the top runners.

Ugh. I really hope the longer race + stops ruins this race for RBR. :indiff:

And Nissan needs to step up their game, something needs to happen soon. Last thing I want to see is them pull out of V8's because the Kelly's can't get them the results they need.

If they were smart they'd cut back the amount of cars given to them and look and see if someone more competent can put the cars further up the grid.

TCM is the best!

i dont want to see them go either. Todd needs to step aside. Get a GT ACADEMY driver in there. Recruit anyone.

Much more lively race

Yep, with the mix of hard and soft tyres it was always going to be. Winterbottom is flying on old soft tyres at the moment.

Edit: Safety car.

It would have been better to do compulsory pitstops yesterday. rotate wheels from to back to front mandatory. Oh well, it's come good today.

Maybe. I fear the safety car will benefit the Red Bull cars.

Yeah, it really has. Gained back all the time they lost to the guys who started the race on soft's. Not to mention that Lowndes has a set of brand new soft tyres waiting for him next stop.

Edit: That's Lowndes race done, no way his tyres are going to hold up for the remaining 36 laps.

See? Todd ruined 2 drivers race. He must go!
