Tell you what... Whincup couldn't have started any better. While I do love the Yas Marina Circuit, I am now starting to fall skeptical of that tunnel heading back onto the track. What if a car or two spins or causes a pileup in the tunnel while some other cars escape the pits? Just skeptical.

The V8 Supercars will have another Middle Eastern race Bahrain next weekend. Then after that, at Adelaide in two weekends time.

There is a trap door built into the wall so that marshalls can get the car out of the way quickly. If you're concerned about mutli-car pile-ups, what if it were to happen atanother circuit - like Interlagos - with a very long pit exit. The only instance I can think of where cars collided in the pit exit was when Lewis Hamilton suffered brain fade and cannoned into the back of Kimi Raikkonen in Canada.

In short, the drivers aren't idiots.

Not for the championship he won't. There are plenty of drivers that could come away with excellent single race/round results.
That's how it all starts lol

The only part of the Channel 7 commentary that I thought was a bit of a dopey statement, was when they said "Can't believe we have had nearly 600kms of racing, without a safety car".
This happens when you race at new, international circuits. These tracks are designed with so many run offs, that a safety car really isn't needed.

I mean Adelaide track, was international, but a street circuit. Close walls, and almost no run offs. Same as Hamilton, and Townsville. Australians just don't know how to build 'Safe' tracks. However Australians also don't really have the money to build an international 'Race Circuit'.

Anyways, great racing in the middle east, and if a holden had to win, it could only be Team Vodaphone. (they used to be Ford, so a bit hard to turn that off) I just can't stand any of the other holden teams or drivers.

BTW, rules are rules, and Tanders penalty in Abu Dabi was justified.

Bring on the streets of Adelaide. Especially because once Clipsal500 is over my work quietens down for a couple of months. :)

It's called Albert Park.

However, the organisers are doing a study to analyse the vibility of constructing a permanent venue at Avalon, which would stop taxpayers having to foot the bill of constructing the circuit each year.

In the states they just started showing V8 Supercars on TV. It's good stuff, especailly since there are no other racing series going on here except for NASCAR, which I don't like to watch anyway.

Gee, really. And before Albert Park was Adelaide Street Circuit.

And what really does Albert Park have to do with V8 Supercars, They don't even race there for championship points.

What I mean is, the commentators were saying they were suprised that there was no 'Safety Car'. This would be because Abu Dabi and Bahrain are Purpose Built Permanent International Race Circuits. Therefore 'run off' area almost outweights the amount of real road.

People in the USA, don't forget that round two is on SPEED Sunday at 2pm EST. :)

Clipsal this weekend woohoo!!! :)

Can't wait! I'll be in the Pirie Street grandstand, same as the last couple of years, it's an awesome spot and there's usually a bit of action there. It'll be sad when it's over, Adelaide pretty much goes into hibernation once Clipsal and the Fringe Festival wrap up.

Watch out for the i-Seek Brute Ute driven by Jason Gommersall, that's the Ute prepared in our workshop, and half the pitcrew for it is our apprentice *cough* mechanics *cough*. I have ordered plenty of parts for it and stare at it all day long because it just stays in the workshop until the next round of racing.

*Side note, it's not a stare of longing or lust, I'm still a Holden bloke, but merely the fact it's there means it's in my line of sight.:p

You lucky one, I will probably be working at the track, Thursday and Friday, sitting down in my home chair on Saturday and Sunday.

Untill the Royal Show in September. I don't really know why Adelaide has chosen to 'shove' so MUCH in to the start of the year, and then do practically nothing the rest. Boggles my brain.

A bit of Clipsal action from today... Quite a few HUGE crashes as usual.... Including a Mosler, and a brand new Audi R8 GT3 car...

Well well well, Whincup is human, after all. :sly:

It's great to see HRT back to race winning form, kind of a shocker for almost everyone else except Whincup, which gave some of the younger blokes a chance, Coultard finished strong which would have been good for him, and I was extremely happy to see Holdsworth with another podium. Ingall and Davison both gained a whopping 10 spots which was an amazing fight back, and maybe now Davison has his brake issues fixed he can start and finish even better tomorrow.
Kind of sucks what happened to Winterbottom, and was shocking to not see Johnson penalised for it.

Also, the Utes were amazing to watch as usal, but completely, utterly and bitterly pointless. Thanks to throwing celebs in the Utes some driver's championships were killed before the drivers even actually had a go in their own car.:odd:

Just when Car of the Future was out of your mind, this article comes along! I found it at www.autoblog.com, they're saying it was from CarPoint.com.au.

While American racing fans remain enamored with stock car racing, road course-bound touring car series continue to draw big crowds overseas. In Europe there's the World Touring Car Championship. DTM is one of the most popular forms of motorsport in Germany. The Japanese have Super GT. But Down Under, V8 Supercars reign supreme.

The Australian touring car series has typically been the battleground for Ford Falcons and Holden Commodores, but the Aussie brands could get some company once again thanks to new regulations. Following a similar move by NASCAR, series organizers in Australia are preparing to institute a new Car of the Future program that could open the door for foreign automakers to take part. The formula calls for a spec chassis with independent rear suspension replacing the live rear axles on the current competitors, plus more advanced DOHC 24-valve engines to accompany (and eventually replace) the pushrod 16-valve units currently in place.

According to reports from the other side of the world, Mercedes-Benz could be the first to take advantage of the new regs, spurred into action by the increased sales of FPVs and HSVs among V8 Supercars fans Down Under. The German automaker's Australian unit has commissioned Brock Engineering – run by the legendary Peter Brock's son James – to build a sort of ring-taxi type of vehicle based on the C63 AMG in which Mick Doohan – a superbike champion whose record rivals that of Valentino Rossi – will chauffeur paying customers and VIPs on hot laps around the Philip Island circuit in Victoria. The stripped-out, track-prepped C63, according to sources, could form the basis for a Mercedes V8 Supercar, similar to the company's DTM racer.

Although Mercedes typically prevents its regional subsidiaries from competing in local motorsport disciplines, an exception could apparently be made for the popular Australian series, with factory support provided to privateer entires. Nissan and Hyundai are reportedly also considering entries in the championship. Tip of the hat to Scott for the tip!

IRS, OHC V8s and Mercedes, Nissan and Hyundai considering entry, interesting.:)

Needs more BMW tbh.

If it ends up getting Mercedes, it also needs BMW.. gotta have the Euro equivalent of the Ford-Holden rivalry y'know ;)

Maybe if Merc enter and their sales rise considerably as a result BMW will get jealous and enter at a later season.:sly:

I'm not liking this whole "spec" car thing. I like them the way they are.

Been some good races this year, but man, have channel 7 got worse or is it just me, can't stand the commentary

The telecast was much better on channel 10 but what can you do. So far the channel 7 telecast is better than last years.

The commentary would be so much better if they got rid of Mark Beretta and Matthew White. :yuck:

Yeah, leave the commentary to the ex-drivers. Skaife, Neil and Larko really bounce of each other very well.

When any of the non-drivers chime in it gives a jarring feeling at least V8Xtra is on most weekends

The official car of the future plan will be announced after the Melbourne Grand Prix later this month. Simon McNamara thinks he can't see Merc/AMG entering V8 Supercars, especially since the manufacturers themselves have said no.

I believe they said no to fielding a works teams like FPR and HRT - but they haven't ruled out privateer teams running one of their cars.

That could come from any manufacturer though, would V8 Supercars Australia spend the money on developing and parity testing a new car every time a privateer wants a new car, like maybe an IS F, or an Inifniti? I wouldn't mind seeing Merc in there, but I think McNamara is right in that it seems unlikely.

It's my understanding that Mercedes would enter the championship through an agreement that would see someone like Triple Eight prepare the car the way they did Paul Morris Motorsports' Commodoes. That said, I can't imagine they'd let just anyone run their cars. They'd want an established team to be running their cars before they started letting the Dean Fiores and Tony d'Albertos of the grid get their hands on the cars.

Tony was consistently in the top 10, as were a few other young lads, which was good to see at Adelaide.👍 Kind of off topic to what we're presently discussing, but since you reminded me with mention of D'Alberto.:)

Yeah, I didn't get to see the Clipsal 500. In fact, I don't get to see any of the races this year - the reception in my college is pretty poor.

And I didn't mean manufacturers like Mercedes wouldn't let the likes of d'Alberto drive their cars first in the sense that d'Alberto is a poor driver, but rather that he's a small, one-car operation, and while he might be quick, I can't imagine Mercedes or whoever being thrilled with the prospect of smaller teams running their cars like that. They may not run a manufacturer-backed team, but they'd still want to be regularly and consistently competitive.
