Yeah, I enjoyed the race actually, great seeing the V8's back at Eastern Creek. Great run by HRT for a change with Tander finishing 4th and Courtney 6th.
 
That was a bloody stupid move by Triple Eight to keep Whincup out. I wouldn't be surprised if Race Control have something to say about it.
 
Why is Villeneuve back in the Pepsi car? I would have thought they would have had a better performance from someone from the feeder Fujitsu series then having him bring up the rear.
 
Because the sponsors wanted him back. He's believed to be chasing a drive in 2013, so getting as much track time as possible is the name of the game.

Sponsorship reasons? Having a international personality in the V8's boosts the profile of the series (even if he is running at the back)? Maybe he's genuinely considering switching to V8s full time? Honestly, I don't know.

Sounded nasty from the in-car camera. I was expecting it to explode at high speed going down the front straight causing a nasty crash, but it held up.
 
Those damn orange cars starting up front for Race 2. Not sure if I even want to watch it...

I'm curious, why doesn't the series have weight penalties for top finishers? Do we know? I'm mainly asking because it seems like if you are not with FPR or Triple-8 you don't win races. At least this year. When was the last time a driver from another team actually won a race?
 
Last year, when Rick Kelly won Race 25 (of 28) at Sandown.

It's not like we're in a situation where only one team is absolutely dominating. Both drivers from Triple Eight and both drivers from FPR are very competitive - they are the covered by just 162 points, and with 150 points on offer for a race win, there is still a lot to play for. After all, there's still 1950 points up for grabs this season, so theoretically, Greg Murphy could still win the championship, and he's in 28th place overall.

As for why the series doesn't have weight penalties, they're considered artificial and unnecessary.
 
Don't get me wrong, the racing is good. I just lose interest in racing series if you have a single or small group of drivers that dominate the series. Great example: WRC.
 
Perhaps, but Winterbottom, Davison, Lowndes and Whincup are all closely-matched. No-one is running away with it; in fact, right now the four of them are closer to one another than they have been all season. A four-way championship fight is in no way a bad thing - especially when we're going into the season of endurance. Last time we were in a situation like this was in 2010, when the top three drivers all crashed at the same time at the same corner in the final race of the year, which made for one of the most bizarre and thrilling title deciders I've ever seen. Sure, there were only three drivers in with a chance at winnng, but that didn't diminish the title fight.

Anyway, I hope you guys in America are getting Bathurst live again. I have a feeling it's going to be a thriller. But I think you're going to need to borrow some of our commentators.

Agreed. Don't get me wong, I'm enjoying the racing this year and the championship battle is interesting. But it does tend to get a little boring seeing the same four guys up front, race after race.
 
Can't wait for the endurance season now, especially with the championship so close and 50 years at Bathurst, its going to be great for us fans :)

We're having a pretty lean year this year (compared to most) as far as winners go. I remember for quite a few years in a row we would have 5-6 different winners in as many rounds. But I think its more of the other teams who have dropped off rather than FPR/888 improving that much. HRT are poor, DJR is back of the field, GRM dont have the consistency in the drivers. SBR, I really dont know whats going on with them!

Next year could be interesting though with the new cars
 
SBR is third in the teams championship and are the best of the rest in terms of points....where T8 and FPR's strength come from is their ability to be fast over the race distance. For example Webb only could go 14 laps on the softs yet Lowndes went 23 laps.....bring back real sprint racing ie 10 or 15 laps 3 races per weekend

Night time races a possibility in 2013.
Night time V8 Supercars races could be one of the major changes for the category in 2013 as part of a beefed up ‘prime-time’ TV broadcast deal.

Current broadcaster Seven, plus Nine and Ten have all signalling interest in securing the rights, with a five-year deal expected to fetch over $350 million (comparing favourably to its current six-year $168 million it receives from Seven).

There is "enthusiasm" for the V8 Supercar event in Texas from the NASCAR fraternity, and NASACR officials have said they'd have no objections to their drivers making an appearance in the V8 race, though no NASCAR drivers (except Ambrose) have been directly quoted on the subject and they have all cautioned against pitting NASCAR drivers head-to-head with V8 Supercar drivers.
 
I don't see it happening. And what's with all the talk of May, isn't the V8 Supercar event in Austin scheduled for late next year? September?
 
The date has not been settled at all.

And there is no way the event would take place in September. September is endurance month.
 
Ugh, gotta start saving for the trip if I'm not moved out there by then.
 
Hi guys. I'd like to see better chicane monitoring systems and more variety of teams up there. I'm a HRT supporter. That is all. :p
 
I watched a race from Sydney Motorsport Park today, obviously tape delayed, did it just happen this past weekend or was it even earlier? Never can trust Speed..
 
The round was run on the weekend of August 25-26.

So yes, it was last week.
