well my problem is that i see with just one eye since I was a kid ..... i'm used to it and I want to know if this is going to be a problem for me if I qualify to race camp ?
thanks for your help

I guess some of the questions to you are:
  • Do you currently have a valid diver license?
  • If you can see with just one eye, how do you judge and handle the depth perception?

Look up the regulations for an international license and see what it says about vision. It will likely answer any questions you have.

you need to do an eye test if you get to Silverstone before you even start any activities (part of the medical), so may have to contact GT Academy and see.

Lord Drayson, who was born blind in one eye, was granted an international license to allow him to race at Le Mans back in 2009. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Drayson,_Baron_Drayson

I have a prosthetic eye, and to the best of my knowledge if you have had vision in only one eye for 5years or more then you are able to obtain a race licence.

If you loose and eye in later life, 5 years must pass before you may get your licence.

I checked the MSA rules before my trip to the UK national finals.

There is no way they will pick a winner with one eye. Period. Even if you make it to Silverstone, that'll be it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

MSA RULE

10.1.10. The following eyesight standards are required to be met by applicants for a national licence. Applicants for International Licences please refer to FIA Standards, www.fia.com (Appendix L). (a) Minimum corrected visual acuity must be 6/6 with both eyes open. (b) Minimum binocular field should measure at least 120 degrees along the horizontal meridian with no defects within the central 20 degrees.
129
Competitors: Licences (H)
(c) Spectacles should be fitted with shatterproof lenses. Contact lenses if worn should be certified as satisfactory for motor sport by the ophthalmic specialist who supplied them. (d) A person who suddenly loses sight in one eye will not be allowed to hold a licence until five years has lapsed. (e) Double vision is not compatible with the issue of a Competition Licence. (f) Drivers must have normal colour vision in that they can distinguish the primary colours of red and green

From an Academy official

I understand that entry requirements of the GT-Academy programme include being in good general health in accordance with the MSA, whereby if you meet the eyesight standards under section 10.1.10, in addition to the other sections , you are eligible for a national licence and a potential place as a GT Academy winner.

So from that I would say, given that said candidate ticked all the boxes, that there is every possibility.

Technically it may be legal, but based on what I know about the selection process, you can't win. I doubt they'd even take you to silverstone if they knew, but it's possible they'd be interested just to see what you've got.

If two guys are equal speed though, and one has two eyes, they're chosing the two eyed chap.

If the one eyed chap was slightly better in all aspects, they still take the chap with 2 eyes??

sorry but I can't give up on my dream just because you said that ... I did several karting races and I had never found vision problems ... What I want to say here is that I understand your point but I'm sure that if they find in me the person they are looking for they can give me a chance . And if not I will look for another way to make my dream come true . I'm ready to die for my dream ... vision is just a detail

I appreciate your enthusiasm :)

You asked, so I shared my concerns based on my experiences.

Like I said, nothing is impossible. Just understand that you're going to have to work 5 times harder than everyone else just to get on an even playing field.

according to your answers everything is clear for me :D i'm going to win this competition , period . This is my chance , I won't miss it . Thank you guys for your help . few months left , 500% hardwork and perseverence , i'm pushing like never before . I will either win or I'll die trying
