How should the driver names be?

Indianapolis is turning out to always be a lively place. The fans have all been gone, but in the infield, where there's just the drivers, crews and media, it's never quiet. Early in the morning, Clayton Hardy, Stephanie Porter-Kelley, Kunimitsu Kino****a and Evangeline Porter were all walking, talking with a couple early morning radio reporters. Among the questions asked were how everyone was preparing for the 2017 season logistically. The only two teams with definite open spaces currently are Team Porter, owned by Evangeline Porter as a side-addition to Coca-Cola Black Rose Racing, and Cherokee Motorsports, owned by Clayton Hardy. Porter decided not to answer, leaving it to a simple "give it a couple months". Hardy on the other hand was a little more providing. "We've had a few drivers in the works, either for the part time seats or the full time seat. Nothing at all is guaranteed. There's been a couple offers to trade the entry from us in exchange for something else. Honestly, I'm leaving everything on the table and seeing what the most appealing thing is. I want to see who wants the drive, who wants the entry in exchange, and all of that. I'm not ruling out giving the seat up, but I'm not ruling out putting someone in it either." When asked what the timeline looked like, he was pretty clear on the deadlines. "If I'm selling the seat, all the offers would have to be in by New Year's. If I'm not selling it, I'll announce the driver around Easter. Not going to get too excited and miss out on someone incredible."

"Our car ran good right out of the box and that's what we needed after Bristol, but I always heard from old friends of my dad that 'Indianapolis is a place that makes drivers sweat, owners cuss and mechanics cry', so I'm not taking any chances."

I like it. I like it a lot! Been meaning to ask someone, but are there any non-driver variables that change either between or during the sessions? Things like track temp, air temp, wind, etc.?

Temperatures and weather do change between sessions.

"Good to see Camyron in the top 12. The other three of us need to get out of this hot seat. We are in a very tight spot right now. Sunday will be a pressure cooker."

While P21 isn't exactly headline grabbing, it's great that our setup change has gone in the right direction. It gives us a good enough buffer that we can be confident of qualifying for the Indy 500, and as we all know, anything can happen in the race.

Everyone's upped their game and we simply couldn't hook up a decent lap to compensate. Something must've gone horribly wrong to be 6mph off the fastest speed.

"Well... I don't know what to say... weather changed a lot between practices, and we also tried to do new things with the car to find some speed, then we reverted to the old setup, but nothing was working for us in this practice.. at least the team boss got 6th, that shows that one of the 4 TKU entries for the 500 will be able to get the job done. I wish we can be all 4 cars fighing for the W in the race, but for now we need to focus on the next session."

"On one hand, I don't mind that I'm still the quickest of the 5 C-CBRR cars entered. On the other hand, we lost almost half a second and 2 MPH over the first practice session with the set-up changes we made... We've got our work cut out for us for Qualifying."

The official logo for the 2015 VRR GTPlanet Indianapolis 500 has been completed and is absolutely stunning. Thanks to the one and only @RACECAR the logo sets a nice standard of what to expect in terms of class for the Greatest Spectacle of Racing.

The way that bump qualifying works is that it takes place before pole qualifying to determine who will not be able to participate in the rest of the race weekend. For the Indianapolis 500 and the Pocono 500 mile event, only the top 33 advance to the rest of the race preparation. For the Auto Club season finale, all entrants make the race regardless, and bump qualifying is not used.

"I just wanted to get the car in the show and took it fairly easy on my run. I'll try to hang it all out to dry when the session that determines our grid position rolls around."

Alex Rivera "We have the single car speed but its not pole day so we have to wait to see if we can get the pole."

I tell you what, I'm real excited. I'm seeing things I wasn't expecting, glad that our cars up to the task, and kinda bummed for Matheus. What am I seeing though? Well, keep in mind that this series is just getting up to speed, but from the little experience I've had with open wheel racing while the driver is important, the car has a lot to do with how well the car does, and a factory backed effort goes a long way.

Yeah, not seeing it here. Three of the top 10 represent the factory efforts, one from each, four in the top 15. The top 15 itself is five-a-piece per engine. You've got indies and part-timers running with or better than those factory rides. It's gonna make for entertaining racing, and a fair amount of drama both on track and off, I think. I'm ready to go.

Pleased that we survived Bump Day but we're still struggling to get decent pace. Pole Day is going to be tough.

Well, who has been tinkering with my engine...!? I had a solid practice session, but now the Bump Quali performance was atrocious compared to my teammates... Indianápolis is being a rollercoaster, and right now I'm at the part where there's a big drop and I start to get scared because of said drop. Fortunately, I can still race because I've avoided the danger zone, but things are looking rather bleak.

Matheus Michelin couldn't be reached for an interview after not qualifying for the Pole day and subsequently for the 500.

:(

You're in. Michelin is the only DNQ.

Oh? When I read "who will not be able to participate in the rest of the race weekend", I had assumed that meant I was not in. So is he not in because of a 33 car limit?

Yes, and I explain the system underneath the results themselves. All the Indy and Pocono races, only 33 can qualify for the race. If there are more than 33 entries, then bump qualifying will determine the 33 that will race. Only Auto Club can have all entries race.

After having two dismal practice sessions, Jacob Descoteau and the #22 team delivered a solid top 15 result. "We've been working really hard on the car, and we've finally got it to a point where I like it. We just need a bit more speed on the straightaway, and we'll be set," he told reporters in a brief press conference after the session.
