Last night we picked up some pulled pork barbecue, baked beans, and cole slaw.

We're fairly close to one another and I've been craving some good barbecue for the last few days. I want to get some before my vacation ends, do you have any recommendations?
This was Staxx BBQ in Frankfort. A lot of State Police troopers and National Guard soldiers eat there. Probably not worth the drive for you.

In the Louisville area I prefer Mark's Feed Store. It's local and they now have six locations in Louisville. Kroger also carries their sauce.

When I lived between Taylorsville and Mt. Washington we always went to Bootleg BBQ on Bardstown road between Mt. Washington and Fern Creek. According to their Web site they also have a location on Preston Hwy.

As for the rest of the state, I don't have any suggestions. Most BBQ places pop up and fade out every few years, so it is hard to keep one in mind and be able to go back to it later.

Looks like Staxx BBQ is a little less than an hour drive from me and the last time I drove to Frankfort I quite enjoyed the drive, the road is very interesting. It wasn't nearly as fun on the way back when I had no brakes on my '85 300D but that is beside the point.

I've heard good things about Mark's Feed Store as well, I may check out both places on the next few days. I appreciate your input. 👍

I know this wasn't the Interstate, as three-lanes of boring traffic doesn't get exciting by any means. That leaves 127, 420, 0r 60.

I believe we took 146 to either 421 or 573. It has been over a year since I drove it so I can't recall the exact route.

I meant 421. 420 is the road I live on. I switch them a lot.

Probably not the quickest way, but definitely better than the Interstate. US60 is good after Shelbyville. If you come in on 421, turn right on 127 and Staxx is on your left at the corner of 127 and 60, diagonally across from Sonic and next to Big-O Tires. It's on a small access road called Carson Place.

So I made about a gallon of marinade for tacos al pastor. Since I had raw pork on my hands after cubing 2 pounds of loin, I asked mom for help applying said marinade to said pork. She obliged, and I gave her the pork bowl, telling her to ladel one scoop of marinade on top. "I have the dirty spoon, you have the clean spoon." So she ladels the sauce onto the pork, but she touches the ladel to the pork. I freak out, "WHY DID YOU DO THAT!" Then she says, "Why? I didn't touch it," and puts the ladel BACK INTO THE POT OF SAUCE. 🤬

Now I have to throw out 3/4th of my sauce. Thanks, ma.

Shoot her.

I'm glad I have gtplanet to vent on, lol. The good thing about home made sauces is that it only costs a few bucks to make a ton of it

At this place called the Omelet Shoppe. It's similar to waffle house but, local and more redneck. Not the cleanest place but, the food tastes decent and it's open 24/7. Anyways I got an omelet with hash browns, bell peppers, onions, ham, and cheese, a side of hash browns, toast, a bowl of grits, and a Pepsi.

When did the Omelet change. I remember as a kid going to Denny's I would always order a Southwestern Omelet. The cheese was always melted with the ham and peppers, all cooked inside the egg. Then they started cooking the egg patty separately, and folding it over the unmelted cheese and toppings. Why!

I first noticed it at Denny's, then IHOP. Now most restaurants do the folded over egg patty thing.

The only good omelets I have these days are the ones that I make myself.

How many GTPers have tried these at this point? It seems like quite a few. I guess I will have to see if the grocery store has them whenever I get around to going to it today.
If you've had it by now, how did you like it?

If not, the pizza is fairly good, and from what I can bring up, I think there has been about five or six people who have posted this pizza in this thread.

Finally decided to have one of these Bernie o's pizzas. This "Twist" pizza was voted "Top 3 in the nation" and won several other awards over the years. Wow it sure does deserve it. Easily THE best pizza I have had in my life. Each ingredient and bite complimented the other ingredients. Absolute perfection.

The Twist

  • Breaded Chicken chunks
  • pineapple
  • cheese blend
  • bacon strips
  • yellow peppers
  • jalapeno peppers
  • fresh tomatoes
  • home made ranch
  • secret yellow sauce

I had one on Tuesday. I added some additional pepperonis, mozzarella, and some seasoning. It was pretty good. I also bought a supreme, but have not tried it yet.

Too hot to eat earlier. Wasn't too thrilled to eat now, either. Can of ravioli mixed with some macaroni noodles.
It's-It ice cream sandwich afterwards.

My sister and 2 year old nieces hand picked some blueberries from a local field. So I have been eating those with my breakfast and dinner the last few days. Froze most of them.

I don't taste a lot of pineapple but there's plenty of kick to them. Not enough to make me stop eating them, but enough to give me hiccups.

I was never much of an ice cream guy, but this one I'm completely addicted to.

The ice cream itself is so delicious (on top of that, it reminds me of a dessert my mum used to make when I was a kid).

And then you get to those big chunks of peanut butter cups... It's heaven.

These things are legit. They taste like what moon pies used to taste like, before they got all nasty. Delicious.

For dinner, I made naan flatbread pizzas. I had one the traditional way with olive oil, tomato, fresh mozzarella, parmesan, and basil. But my meat-tooth kicked in so I had to go make another with chicken breast, tomato, and parmesan over a base layer of hickory bbq sauce and a drizzle of buffalo ranch. I hit it with some garlic and onion powder, salt, pepper, and little dash of Lawry's fire-roasted chile & garlic blend. It's a great blend of smoked paprika, chipotle, and roasted garlic for a little flash of interest at the end.

It was so good I had to stop and take a picture.

Made some breakfast burritos over the weekend. I make these almost every single weekend. I just never took a pic of them yet. I make enough for at least 2-3 meals. This is just 1 meal.
  • eggs
  • spinach
  • tomatoes
  • red potatoes
  • red, yellow, orange, green bell peppers
  • mushrooms
  • cooked cherry tomatoes on the side
  • cheese
  • Seasoned with Mrs Dash
  • Super soft tortilla shells

I enjoyed five pieces of bacon. I then used the bacon grease to fry three eggs. I went a bit heavy on the salt on the eggs, but they were still quite tasty.
