I was in the mood for a basic but fairly comprehensive 60s soul compilation and this recent entry in EMI's long-running NOW series appears to fit the bill:

I'm hoping that by going major label I can avoid the "some or all of these tracks may or have been recorded by some or none of the original artists" disclaimer that tends to plague budget anthologies.

Here's a delightfully-acted promo short for the Chiffons' "Sweet Talkin Guy" intended for video jukeboxes:

Another song you've probably all heard before but you might not know that the personnel on this number two hit* not only included future Level 42 members Phil Gould, Wally Badarou and Gary Barnacle but may also arguably be the catchiest record David Bowie played on** until "Fashion" and "Ashes To Ashes" the following year.

*sadly, there was no dislodging Mike Batt & Art Garfunkel's "Bright Eyes" from pole position in the UK. Thankfully the US had no such impedimenta barring M's way to #1

Andy Pratt - Avenging Annie

I don't know if it's my all-time favorite song but man it's up there. That bass. John Entwistle could never (but he tried).

That 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition has to be at least ten years old now, right?

Went to see Richard Ashcroft on Thursday.

Brooke Combe was in Leeds that night and I wish I could have been there too.
Can't seem to post some links so this will have to do:

RA got in there first so we had to buy tickets. Brooke would have been my first choice.
