I guess Frozen goes well with Snow Patrol

Some music tips from today:
Nieve Ella has a great voice, look for her if you like indie rock.

The Amazons seem to have one (or possibly two) too many guitarists, in my opinion, which messes up their sound. The two singers have a great harmony though:

Amy MacDonald has some great crowd pleasers and is also very funny as long as, like me, you can understand her broad Scottish accent. Maybe @Touring Mars
could translate

The Editors have a FANTASTIC sound. Really really good. In fact the sound is so good live I'm not sure it would be as good in a studio:

Snow Patrol were awesome as expected. Nice to see they seemed to be really enjoying the night themselves. A funny moment when someone in the crowd kept breaking the build up in a song and making Gary crack up with laughter, so a 10 minute song became 12, and then 14...

I had read an article about the new single earlier in the day, so when he said "we have a new song out which is a collaboration with a legend (or words like that) I started muttering to myself:
"Please be Kylie
Please be Kylie"
When he said "And here she is" I turned around to my friend who was going wild and looked like he was going to faint

Genesis - Trick Of The Tail (1976)

I've finally turned to the dark side and have been listening a lot to some post-Peter Gabriel Genesis. I've avoided this album (and most others beyond PG's departure), but regret that slightly now.

This album was really a make-or-break venture for Genesis - with Gabriel gone, Phil Collins took over as the lead vocalist, and delivered such a strong performance in rehearsals that they decided to record and release the album with his vocals on it; and the rest is history.

It's a very strong album - it's not often I can say that there's not a single weak track on an album.

Charles Stepney is one of the most interesting American musical figures of the ‘60s/‘70s. He’s the writer/co-writer and/or producer/co-producer of many of Earth, Wind and Fire’s massive hits in the ‘70s, as well Minnie Riperton, The Ramsey Lewis Trio, Rotary Connection, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Marlena Shaw, and many others. I'm been a fan of Stepney for several years (ever since I heard Little Milton's "More And More" and Deniece Williams's This Is Niecy) and believe his work represents the pinnacle of musical arrangement as an artform but unfortunately the video doesn't work for me, so I'll try and seek out the Step On Step album instead.

Some Tony Williams. I've never heard any of these albums and I don't know if I'll like them or not as they're from an era of jazz I've previously avoided, but I'm hoping to educate myself. Miles Smiles has been hit and miss with me so far.

[EDIT] Life Time didn't really gel with me either but I like Emergency! so far. I think I finally get this kind of music, even if it's taken a lifetime of my own to begin to understand it.

I can’t believe this is the first I’ve heard of this band. They won the Juno award for Best Canadian Band three years in a row between 1972 and 1974. And somehow, not only have I not heard this song, one of their biggest hits, but I’ve never even heard of the band. Which is a bit wild since their sound, a blend of tight rock band, jazz horns, and classical strings, is right up my alley.

The text is helpful but if the embedded video doesn't play for me for localisation reasons, the link usually goes nowhere as well.

I always try to include a text label on isolated videos, unless there are album cover thumbnails in the post which I hope at least identify the artist.

Admittedly, I don't do this on non-music threads where the song isn't the focus but I try to keep to it on this thread. Even if it doesn't help anyone else, at least I can search the thread for a song to find out if and when I posted it.

True, but I figure if it won’t play in a certain region, that means there’s no thumbnail image. So the text link at least lets them see what the song is so they can look for an alternate upload of the song. It’s probably a belt-and-suspenders solution (or should I say belt-and-braces?) to a non-problem.
