What do you think about drift ?

They make drift tires? :odd: That's weird...Anyway, you may come into the turn faster, but when you exit the turn when you grip, you will have a much faster speed than "drifting" will ever get...

i think people are stuck on thinking grip means not near the limit of tire traction... and drift means past.... the true fastest form is between... it is the limit of grip... either slightly below or slightly above... ok ... ok

sorry a lil OT...
Well, I've participated in and spectated at several autocross events, which are similar to gymkhana. Wherever possible, the drivers there try to avoid sliding except as a device to get around the tightest of turns. Even then, the point is to get the car rotated early so that you can regain traction and start accelerating again as quickly as possible, rather than to keep the back of the car hanging out all the way around the turn.

Bengee, you're headed in the right direction in GT3. All the advice I've gotten from fast drivers (and I'm the first to admit I'm fairly slow) is that you should minimize tire squeal on the turns. I can't do that without slowing down way too much, but I do try to eliminate tire smoke in the rear view mirror, except maybe a little puff under braking at the end of the straight.

Wow. I can't think of anything to add. I only wish it were possible to race a drifter, on the same track, in the same car, and at the same time, and prove that grip is faster. Last night on Midfield in the Lotus it was painfully obvious that the less I heard the tires squeal, the less smoke I saw, the faster I went. What makes the car go is the engines power hitting the ground. When you drift you lose the power and are just making smoke and ruining tires.

Milefile....i think that it was painfully obvious because of the asm....which totally kills the power when the tires loose grip. If the asm were off...it wouldnt hurt the times nearly as much..thats what i think anyways

If the asm and tcs were off you could easily cut two seconds off the time, drift or no drift. You can try it with in free run or run-settings but who knows how the TT car is set up. It'd be too easy to beat. I prefer setting up my own car. TT is sorta lame.

I agree. It is kinda lame. But you know its only like that to ensure that youre using the same exact car to beat the time they posted for you to beat. :) but you knew that

avtuallly you dont loose any power... or traction force when you drift... you have gone above the limit which means you have exceeded the maximum value allowed... you traction ofrce on your wheels is large... what does happen however... is that your wheels can only provide a force in the direction that the tires roll... and when you drift the traction force on the wheel is no longer in this direction... well cutally i should say most of it isnt in this direction... since the car is at an angle... imagine what happens when you push a box on the ground... friction is generated in the opposite direction of motion... the same thing happens with the wheel... there for hte more you drift the less traction you have available to accelerate with...

this is also y in many a turn sliding a bit before will give you faster laps... as long as you regain as you are coming out... you need the exit speed... and hte entrance speed...

If you're looking for the "exact same car", TTs don't cut it - PAL users can turn off ASM and TCS quite happily.

You need to either specify a GT Mode/Sim Mode car - with or without specific settings - or an Arcade Mode car.

i agree with lan evo that drift is more fun than grip . because
im the one of drifter ....its hard to control cars with simulation tire
...compare to slick . btw DRIFT is GOOD than grip . nowadays
we know that drift is more popular for example D1GP now its
like a (linkin park ) i mean famous at us ...and at august it will
held again at us.... so drift is more fun ....:)

We all know that but drift is slower than grip??
