My family don't really see why I spent the money to buy a g27, although my brother likes it. I don't intend to tell my friends though, they would make fun definately.
How about you?

They don't seem to understand it. I have friends that have given me weird looks, when all they do is play CoD whenever they can. Mother in particular has a very rash way of addressing situations she can't understand such as my sim racing hobby. She'd rather label something as "silly" or "stupid" rather than trying to understand it.

I'm old enough so that people in general won't make fun of me so I'm not afraid to tell them (if they ask).

My friends race on games like GT5 and Need for Speed and none of them understand why I race games like iRacing. One of them respects the game I suppose, kinda understands how it is realistic but asks why I dont play GT5 instead. Afterall GT5 apparently has superior everything, its ultrarealistic and all -.-.

The purchase of my G27 hasnt caused problems with anyone, mum knows I love racing games and cars etc so thats fine and my friends really couldnt care less. Some friends even wanted a go at it.

Family members can't play any racing games, so it matters not to them whether it's a sim or arcade.

Not many friends of mine are into driving games in general, and those who are aren't into sims nor good at arcade racers.

Well Im 15, with friends the same age, and have had one or two that wanted a go, but the rest won't understand it, so I won't tell them. My mum doesn't understand but goes with it, after all I earn my money so I can spend it on what I like.

My wife just shakes her head when she sees me boot up the PS3 or 360 and get behind the wheel. But she did just pay off my Forza 4 Collector's Edition today so I suppose I can let her shake her head all she wants. :dopey:

I tell them the truth

"I lost my license, and I wanna drive something....leave me alone" hahaha

I've honestly never met anyone in person who likes racing games or even cars in general. Basically everyone I know only plays COD and whatever other FPS games, and some others play LOL and Starcraft etc. It's always an awkward conversation when somebody asks what games I play, so instead I usually tell them that I don't play too many games and that they probably won't have ever heard of the games I play anyway (not like anyone has so far).

Can someone please tell me what sim racing is?

A racing simulation (/game) like iRacing or a similar program and to a lesser extent GT. Like a flight simulation but obviously with cars and tracks.

My father thought I was using GT as an excuse to be lazy until I showed him what Lucas did at GT Academy and now he realises I have a genuine hobby.

My wife? - Playing GT or getting drunk - I know what she prefers me doing.

I don't know anyone in person who sim races properly either. I do play games like cod sometimes, but im pretty bad at it.

Not to be mean but I think it's more weird when people play war games and take it to serious. A sim race game actually demonstrates almost realistic racing and something that can be used.

My parents continually tell me to shut the **** up, when I talk about my sims to them over the phone. Although they are very interested in iRacing because it has all of the NASCAR tracks and they are NASCAR fans.

Told my friends about the wheel (that's broken :(), didn't bother them. They don't have to look at it every day.

You guys have weird friends, mine usually want to try out my wheel. The only time they complain is when they want me to play COD. My family is pretty much the same

My brother says Racing games are pointless and boring, and the rest of my family, but my mom, finds them fun and full of sense.

My few friends in person, well, they all find them, "Okay".

And my friends online, most of them love Racing Simulators.

first my girl was nice enough to go in with me for a sweet 3d tv. she just couldnt understand why i wanted 2 more 25" monitors for a 3 screen setup lol. but she caved :)
everyone else understands cause i used to have a LAN store in the mall and just love sim racing.

Mostly my friends don't accept the term "simulator" and when they crash they don't accept or believe that it is all that realistic. Most of my friends are not gamers, to the extent of them not having owned any games in years.
