what does this mean?

hi, ive always wondered what the small red number next to gear number means. if anyone knows please tell me its driving me mad!

It is your redline indictcater. also the number that pops up suggestest you be in that gear

The little red number does mean what gear they recomend you be in for the corner, they do underestimate your driving depending on how good you are, if you suck, watch it

Ive never noticed it till i read this, just ignore it, if your winning your doing the right thing.

The number is the suggested gear for the corner. It's not always right, but it can be used as a guide. More significantly though, it starts to flash at you when you should be braking.

After a while, when you are getting better, you will notice that half of the time, that thing is wrong.
