What happened to all the cool GT4 Tracks?

Looking at that list really makes me want to bust out my PS2 and play GT4. I've always had a feeling that something was missing from the tracks of GT5 I just didn't realize how much.

Tahiti Road I forgot about that I loved that track back in the day :D

I really miss mid field. That was my most practiced track in GT2. I also liked New York, but the Seattle and SSRs that everyone else love, I really did hate...

How about another challenge: X1 around Complex String? :P

I have to admit, for the most part, I've never really been a fan of the city courses. I do like the SSR tracks and Amalfi, but the ones like, say, London or Madrid now.... I don't find them fun at all, I always dread events with them, so there you go.

I really miss:Complex String, Apricot Hill, Midfield, Citti di Aria, Costi Di Amalfi, El Capitan, Tahiti, Opera Paris and Beginner Course! :D

I've never played GTPSP, so I have no idea.

Well I will save you the pain of going through it... it had a very nice track list including many old favorites and had a ton of cars to drive on them... it was just mising one little thing...

GT Mode.

How PD thought people wouldn't want a career mode is totally beyond me and it honesty killed the game for quite a few people.

PD have now mangled the meat and potatos of GT twice in a row with GTPSP not even having a career mode and GT5 having this grind happy level locked short one.

I honestly don't know what to say because I can't for a second believe PD actually doesn't realize the importance of a good long career mode but their action speak so loudly.

Either way, I completely don't agree with the logic that PD would cut out fan favorite tracks in order to give each game a unique feel when they would cram questionable quality standard cars into GT5 to fill the roster.

I'd really like for El Capitan to make a return.

Polyphony may have wanted each game to have an individual feel. Some games, like GT2 and GT4 have unique circuits; GT2 has Red Rock Valley, Tahiti Road and Tahiti Dirt Route 3, Pike's Peak and Grindlewald where GT4 has Citta di Aria, Costa di Amalfi, Opera Paris and Georges V Paris, Hong Kong and the Cathedral Rocks rally stages. I guess it adds a little bit of replayability and longevity to the games.
Not really understanding you here... And all I'm going to do here is get myself in trouble with you being a super mod and all but i'm not having a go. There is absolutely no reason these tracks should not have been ported over to GT5 and GT2 to GT3 and so on. Personally in my opinion it's just once again Polyphony not getting their priorities right and mismanaging their resources. We miss out on re driving some of these great tracks of old, but instead I have a Daihatsu OFC concept with perfectly modelled floor mats down to the stitching that I will never see!

Also I know I shouldn't say this but stop defending GT5 so much. I see you in almost every post where someone is complaining about a feature in GT5 and you always come up with these half assed responses trying to justify terrible design choices. I love PD and this game and trust me I will play it to death. It's just that Im sick of people defending some of PD's terrible design choices and not admitting that this game is fundamentally flawed! :grumpy:

I was wondering about El Capitain, I swear that it was shown blatantly in a trailer, you could very obviously see the iconic snow drifts from offside of the track.[/QUOTEI thought I saw El Captain too in the trailer.(Maybe) lol. But seriously, I thought GT5 would have tons of tracks and by tons I mean the whole library of courses from GT1 to 4. I really miss Twin Ring Motegi, El Captain, Infineon Raceway...I hate the La Sarthe LeMans course..its really boring in my own opinion

:(

Apricot Hill, Midfield, Citti di Aria, Costi Di Amalfi, El Capitan, Tahiti, Twin Ring Motegi, Pikes Peak...

This thread just reminds me of all the great missing tracks and fuels my dismay at PD's latest release.

SPA, SPA, SPA.
I don't mind they cycle some circuits. Rome is back, for example, but some omissions or choices are somewhat strange.
But in general, I'd like to see more real life circuits, like SPA, Bathurst, Silverstone, Paul Ricard, Estoril, etc.

The should have real world tracks that don't appear in any other game such as Pau,Macau,Bathurst, Adelaide F1 track, the full pikes peak hill climb(if you insist on the cars why not the track), road America, sebring, mosport, brands hatch, and all previous iterations of current tracks in the game.

Gt5 allows us to race period cars why not period tracks that are still in operation, silverstone,Monaco, hockenheim, monza, imola, spa, le mans

Tracks that exist but not used as circuits Mille miglia, Dijon

Apricot Hill! Can't believe I forgot about that one.

dj-smurph - do you mean that don't appear in any other GT game, or any other racing game at all? Because I'm fairly sure Sebring and Road America are in Forza.

As for Monaco, well isn't that 'Cote d'azure' (or however PD spell it)? We also have Monza in GT5.

No official reason and you would think it easy to port... I get the feeling we may see them for sale in the future though :(

I think Devedander is on the right track here (no pun), unfortunately.

Also, the increased need to grind is related to this.

It seems that PD has had a general shift of philosophy since GT3~GT4.

I remember when they were all about creating a top-quality game, that was just UNMATCHED by any competition. Sure they have the best physics engine (I'd still pay $60 for JUST the nordschleiffe and an M3, and NOTHING but driving)..... but there's definitely something to be said about their shift in philosophy.

For example: there are two ways to enhance replay-value of a game:
1) make the career mode complex, evolving, challenging, and diverse. (Like GT4 for example..... TOOK ME FOREVER TO FINISH IT... and MINIMAL GRINDING)
2) make the career mode simple, repetitive, easier, and grind-happy. (I'M PRACTICALLY DONE WITH GT5... if you factor out my grinding, I would've been done even FASTER).

I think it's safe to say that PD has chosen #2. If comparing GT5's track list to the other GTs doesn't convince you, look at one of the MAJOR parts of update 1.05: you can now RESTART a race RIGHT AFTER you've just finished it!!!! WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT THAT?!!?!? I JUST FINISHED THIS RACE!!!!!!!!! It's a "GRIND" button essentially!

It' really sad that this is what they're resorting to. Instead of adding more content to fix an unfinished (but released) game, you make it easier for people to repeat events?!?!?

What's even more sad is that people are applauding this..... as if it's an improvement to the game. That's weak.

Unfortunately, it is an improvement to the game and deserves applause. As you stated, if they would take away the grind aspect, we wouldn't need the restart button. But they didn't, so we do. :)

I see what you're saying... but all I'm saying is that they treated a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself.... and by doing that they're encouraging us to accept an inferior product. That's underhanded, imho. Instead, they should address the root of the problem by creating more 'in-between events'.... Jeez... between this and our discussion on all the good tracks left out, I'm about to bust out GT4 and play through that again.......... I do have the old ps3 and it is back-compatible........

Somewhat strange that they took out Infineon just as they added Nascar, Which is ofcourse one off the 2 Non oval tracks they visit every year.

I thought that was peculiar too. I really thought they were going to move away from "original" circuits and move to real-world tracks. I would love to race on the tracks I always watch AMLS drivers tear around.

It may seem strange.... until you realize that they will probably charge you for the option of DL'ing it later.

Don't get me wrong, I'm ALL for paid-DLC... if IT'S NEW CONTENT. I'm not going to pay extra for repairs to an unfinished game.

To me, this represents a much more general shift in PD's attitude. If you're a true GT fan, see my thread about this general shift here:

Would love to see sears point again in GT5.

For new track, personally I would love to see New Hampshire road course and NJMP thunderbolt so I can practice....LOL

Theres no shift in attitude man, Its a rise in expectation... that is all. I personally think its great for GT to go mainstream. If better tracks are available via DLC I will purchase them and so will 90% of GTP will too as much as you say u wont.

I for 1 would love to have seen a historic version of the Nurburgring included the Sudshliefe (sp?) and possibly the old start finish loop so we could of used the full loop of the nurburgring..... oh and Spa, as for older tracks i miss Seattle, Midfield, Apricot Hill and Red Rock Raceway

What happened was they didn't have time to model them. They were too busy getting the stitching on the floor mats just right.

New York = not cool
Seoul = not cool
Hong Kong = not cool

Need I go on?

What I mean are the original versions of the tracks monza no chicanes just flat out everywhere or the original spa all 15km of it. Never had an xbox or Played froze so wouldn't know but let's have the on the ps3

Cape ring is fine. Although i miss El Capitan, and most importantly, Twin Ring Motegi. Then again, we do have the track generator.

:(

Apricot Hill, Midfield, Citti di Aria, Costi Di Amalfi, El Capitan, Tahiti, Twin Ring Motegi, Pikes Peak...

This thread just reminds me of all the great missing tracks and fuels my dismay at PD's latest release.

That is exactly my list of tracks that I miss.
Also Valencia, Infinion Raceway and Spa would have been nice additions.

+1

Makes me want to bust out my old GT games...I'm pretty positive all the old tracks will be included in future paid DLCs...

Did we not get promised that ALL cars and traks from GT4 and GTPSP would be on 5???

They haven't delivered on either!!! The FPV's are GONE! I tried to get one into arcade from the PSP and it just said that "This car does not feature in Gran Turismo 5"
