Today I finally finished the Potato PC I've had sitting in my junk room surrounded by old hifi parts and electronic gubbins. Bought a super cheap GPU and HDD for it, barely managed to cram then in it's awful case. Spec is now as follows:

Nasty Cheap mATX case (probably ColorsIT)
Nasty Cheap 450W PSU (generic)
MSI 945GCM5 v2 Motherboard
Unknown Intel Core 2 CPU
XFX GeForce 6800XT 512mb
2Gb Kingston 667 DDR2 memory
Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA HDD
2x Samsung IDE DVD-RW Drives

As soon as I pick up a few more bits like a case fan for the front, and a bigger fan for the rear and a DVI adapter of course, then I can finally boot the damn thing up and find out just how potato it really is. And then I shall use it to store films and music and general crud.

I might have some old DDR2 RAM around here somewhere if you want it.

So my Steam drive just died, leading me to question my game storage policy because I don't really want to buy another 2TB drive! I'll probably just use these old drives I've got lying around and keep a handful of games on each. My old SSD might be good for a few multiplayer games, apart from that I think I'll just resist the urge to keep everything downloaded and live without 2TB just for games... Then again the two drives I had in there before have 570 and 790GB free so I'm not exactly pushed for space, but I'd rather not fill those up with games too.

Went to college, came back, went on GTAV and finally found a Burrito online, looked like an FBI van til a player blew it up. R* need to let us customise vans, can't even put insurance or paint it

Had some serious power problems, making my PC reboot and kept on rebooting quite often... Stripped it down today and changed some cables from PSU to MB and it seems to run fine now.

Definitely not sure what caused it but it works, so that's nice.

I've finally finished the mess behind my TV. Well, looking at it, it does not look quite finished... :embarrassed:

This post is more like what I've done a few days ago. I bought my first-ever pair of Bluetooth headphones almost exclusively for my OUYA- a pair of Bluetooth earbuds, in fact. These earbuds have volume controls on them and are fairly comfortable for use listening to material. I also went back to using my HDMI to DVI cable to connect my OUYA to my monitor. I replugged the VGA cable into the PC. The HDMI to VGA device still works, but I am now using the Bluetooth earbuds of mine as my private audio source for my OUYA. They are easier to use and listen to than my other Bluetooth speaker. Despite this, the OUYA suffers from audio syncing lag. The lag is anywhere between 0.5 seconds to a full second. Some people say to disable Wi-Fi and use Ethernet, but I don't have an Ethernet connection.

But again- this has mostly been what I've done the past few days rather than today.

not today, but yesterday. Installed and then unistalled after finding out the mobo was doa. I was pretty angry.

Pulled my goodies out of the potato PC and swapped them to the Tank so I can sell potato super cheap. So now Tank's specs are as follows:

HP ML150 Gen 6 Server case and motherboard
1x Xeon E5520 2.26GHz Quad core
12GB Samsung EEC DDR3 RAM
WD Enterprise 160GB SATA HDD (Boot)
Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA HDD
XFX Geforce 6800XT 512MB GPU
Intel Pro 1GBit PCI-E card
Some kind of DVD drive

All I need really is a bit of a CPU and PSU upgrade. Planned upgrades are two (yes two) Xeon X5660 2.8GHz hex-core CPUs and another 12GB (6x2GB) of RAM, and a big boy spec HP 750w PSU. Failing that I'm gonna grab two i7-920 CPUs for it :dopey:

I had 12 computers delivered to me today (and 2 more I'm still waiting on) that I'd like to get set up over the next week before I go on vacation. Problem is I only really have homes for 6 of the 12 so far, so that's kind of the first priority.

Now we know who is doing the ddos attack's , TB and his super computer  seriously why you buy 12 pc's

I really need to get my brother to build a PC. I was going to get a 970 (when I can actually afford it) and let him have my 680 to build a decent if aged PC around, but I can't be bothered to work out a cheap build for him. What's considered the minimum RAM and CPU for Arma 2? Literally all he does is play DayZ (mod) if he's not working or socialising so it'd reduce a lot of the friction. I don't suppose a Pentium with 4GB would cut the acceptable frame rate mustard, would it?

This is more like what I've done the past few days. I continued trying to learn and practice Java. One of my long-term goals is to create an app. I've created quite a few mostly for practice from lessons, but I don't have enough confidence to make one on my own. What I did this past weekend was buy a book about self-teaching the Java language. I actually paid attention to what exactly each of the demo programs do and how they work. I am VERY far from being any sort of pro as these are mostly beginner-level programs I'm writing from the book, and I am not seeking any Java certification or anything. Two unique bonuses to this book include a section on how to make an Android app (one of my other goals) as well as how to make Java apps for Minecraft (no plans to make unique apps- I want my Minecraft to be as stock as possible).

So what have I done today? Continue slowly learning Java.

I liked that video and I just recently bought one, too. *sigh*.

Last night I found out my uncle's external hard drive I had borrowed woefully missed my needs, so I pulled apart my old PC to get the hard drive out and move it to my new PC to extract the files onto my new hard drive. While I was at it, I removed the hard drive from my moms computer and put it in mine to check if it worked. I also took the opportunity to remove the TX850 power supply which I had in there (and has served me incredibly well) and re-install the original unused power supply that came in the PC.

All went well, I got a WD Green Hard drive out of the deal and confirmed that the hard drive in my moms computer was the issue. I also learned that those cases are a b***h to work in.

Umm, I never thought I'd ever say anything like that, but I've today replaced one of our Chromeboxes with a Raspberry Pi 2 to take over its function as a Kodi Media Player. :boggled:

Upgraded my 2012 Mac Mini's stock 500 GB 5400 RPM drive to a 1TB SSD. While I was at it, I bumped up the RAM from 4 to 16 GB.

And hey, this thing's actually pretty useable now!

You could get a 760K for around 60 quid and some cheap 4GB ram for around 26 quid, according to steam the optimal requiremnets is 2Gb of ram so it should be fine, and a msi a55 e33 motherboard for around 32 quid.

Do I dislike my brother enough to build him an AMD-based PC, though?
