What is a good benchmark for ride height?

How much clearence is there needed to get over speed bumps and not scrape the bottom of the car?

Depends on the car, Some old toyotas have thier mufflers hanging Waaaay down there (or whatever other misc swtuff could be hanging down under your car)

A lap around Nurburgring without bottoming out means that it won't bottom out anywhere else either.

Depends on the car or truck, also on the speed bump. I have a hard time getting over some speedbumps in my truck because it's so low. Also you need to check angles of frequently used drive ways which typically are the desciding factor on your car's ride height.

With speed bumps if you take them on angles 90% of them won't cause you a problem, but driveways will always cause a problem.

i'll agree more with the driveways and entrances to like gas stations and such. My Impreza is only lowered about 1/2 inch or so.. and i occasionaly scrape my skid plate *damn saving grace on many occasions* on the ground or drag my tail pipe.. i rarely have issues with speedbumps or more often here in VT speed dips
