I would agree with you on Superbad there, great movie. 10/10

I saw The Hangover again on the weekend, it was worse than the first time I saw it. IS there something I'm missing about it? Alan is the only character that's remotely funny. 6/10

I also saw Bruno for the second time, by far the funniest movie I've seen in a long time. 10/10

I saw DUmb and Dumber on the weekend too, a lot funnier when I was 11 and it was inappropriate. Now it's just stupid. 4/10

I also saw Maverick on the weekend, good film about a card shark in the Wild West. 8/10

It Might Get Loud(2009) -8/10

It offers great insight into how Jimmy Page, Jack White and The Edge got their start. Jack White was probably the best and funniest. I do wish they would have shown a little more of their interaction though, apart from a couple short collaboration pieces they don't show much of their conversation.

I love Zombie movies.

I just watched Zombieland. I know it's late, but I'm not big on theaters so  thank you Redbox.

I think this is one of my favorite Zombie movies now. With the 28 time period later movies being my favorite, they just leave me feeling depressed, even though they are great movies. But this didn't leave me feeling that way, it's too entertaining. It was just serious enough for me to take it that way, but really showed the fun side of the world being overrun by undead. Like I never thought of all the fun you could have, in a situation like that. Dumb I know, but it's cool to think about, IMO. Anyway, I liked it, I think I'll watch it again, if you have not, it's worth the 1$ to rent it. 👍

I got it from redbox as well. They are great, but it also breaks my heart to see the rental shops like Blockbusters, Hollywood Video stores downsize, or close down.

How did you like the Dawn of the Dead remake? That one is my favorite.

I liked it, but I just have not seen anything that brings a story to me like the 28 later movies. Or at least I feel the most connected to those. It was not bad for sure. But I've only watched it a few times, didn't leave me feeling anything I guess. It's much better than stuff like the Resident Evil movies, which should not even have that as the title. Or that stupid one in the hotel with the crap camera work . There was so much potential that was wasted for a lame super blond girl. It's very uh, realistic to me though. But I just can't pick out what it was missing. But without a doubt one of the better Zombie movies besides 28X later.

I wonder whatever happened to "28 Months later" or whatever was being worked on. I'd so go to see that on release day.

I guess it is sad to see them shutting down, my local Movie Gallery went out of business while I still had games and movies rented, and had checked them out just days prior. But Redbox is just so cheap at a dollar a day, and most of the time, I'll watch a movie and be done with it that fast. I guess they were just late to the game, because there is no store in my town that does not have a Redbox, even gas stations. Just majorly convenient. I imagine PPV movies are suffering the most, it's 4.99 or 6.99(HD) for 24 hour rentals on U-Verse, which I don't know who in their right mind would pay for, you can't even record it...

Black Dynamite 2009 - 7/10

I watched this movie with low expectations and was very surprised... Very creative movie in my opinion... The setting and clothes they wear are a great representation of the 70's :) Even the furniture is pure 70's style... This action/comedy is definately worth a watch... its got good slap stick and funny situations tied in with some action here and there... IMO a very entertaining and overall funny movie to watch, just wait til you hear some of the dialogue in this movie! 👍

28 "days" I think is way ahead of any zombie flicks we listed. For me though, there is a lot of "guilty pleasure" involved, when it comes to movies of this nature. I also love the cheesiness they offer to certain extent. Dawn of the Dead, they had plenty of that, and in a good way. What sold it to me though, it was the breakout scene. Suburb in chaos, stuff burning, cars exploding, it was just so intense, and put together well. I also loved the characters they came up with. If you liked it, I think you were really rooting for the BestBuy TV salesmen towards the end.

I also liked the Resident Evil series, with the exception of the second one. I just found out that there is third sequel scheduled to release this year, I'm actually glad about that. :D 28 "Weeks" Later, those annoying kids, mostly, they killed the movie for me. Not one of my favorites. You didn't mention any of the original "Dead" series by Romero. Night of the living dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, these three were the original "Dead" Trilogy. Later followed by Land of the Dead, then I think Diary of the Dead. One you must see, if you haven't already is the "Return of the Living Dead". I highly recommend that one.

Janghwa, Hongryeon (a.k.a. A Tale of Two Sisters) (Ji-woon Kim, 2003) -- A Korean movie with a higher-than-average degree of WTF-ness. A family is haunted by the tragedies of deaths within the family, but it went through a really long way to tell about them and there were so many times when I didn't know what the hell was going on and the soundtrack is good as long as you enjoy listening to whiny screaming.

To be honest, most of the time it seemed it was just a scare-tactics movie. Not much going on, lots of mystery music and the odd boo every now and then. Not very impressed. 4.5/10

Shira - The Vampire Samurai

If Wesley Snipes had a sister, taught her everything he knows about acting and slaying vampires then beat all but .000000001% of that information out of her, you'd have this movie.

Sitting through the agonizing hour and 25 minutes, there were entirely too many things wrong with this movie - the acting is... I'll be very generous and leave it at below par, favoring a leg because it was injured in the heat of battle only to have the injury magically change to the other leg, yielding a katana like it's a broadsword, etc. The soundtrack sounds like it was stolen from Mortal Combat. I'm surprised I didn't hear anyone say "Fight" or "Finish him."

On the plus side, there were 2 fighting moves, no, I didn't say scenes, that were pretty decent. Other than that, this movie shouldn't exist.

2.5/10

Full Metal Jacket-9/10

Saw this for the first time, absolutely brilliant.

Redline-0.5/10

This is what happens when you mix horrible acting with a bad storyline and more cliche lines than you can imagine. Add the fact it was funded illegally and you have one of the worst movies ever made. Them ruining 2 SLR's, a Diablo, and Carrera GT only makes it that much worse. However if you like Fast & Furious and need something to show that they actually can act this is the movie for you.

I knew it would be crap, it only has a 1.5 star rating on netflix. I have a couple other horrible movies in my instant que. Both are monster flicks as well.

I, too, knew it would suck as imdb has it at a 2.6, but still... Sometimes you run into a movie that is so bad it's awesome, right? That certainly isn't this one, though.

30 Days of Night was awesome. I don't know whatya talking about!

Doom was watchable.

I've seen those a long time ago, I never got around to seeing them again, and then I'm not even sure I've seen them all.

First thing that stood out for me about these newer movies was when the lady in the wheel barrow woke up and charged them like a linebacker or something. I was like woahhh Zombies aren't slow and lame???

The kids did bother me to to a point. Like what the hell were they thinking going into the contaminated area?? I was like NOOOOO! But, I mean kids will do that. The first movie was much more, um, real? I mean he seemed like a normal guy dealing with all that stuff.

I like Shaun of the Dead too lol.

I was just watching Funny People, it started out with potential, then I got bored and have not finished it. It seems like a movie about every day events that I'm not interested in...

And I feel like watching Of Mice and Men... I liked the book so much for some reason, I'd like to see the movie again. Though I can't remember if it was crappy. No reason why.

"And the Rabbit's George! Tell about the Rabbit's!!!"

I watched that movie as well... Starts off great, but gets REALLY boring 45-60 min into the movie (its like 2.5 hours long)... kind of lame actually, because like you say it had potential.

4) I almost forgot, his blabber mouth. Towards the end, the night he commits seppuku(or harakiri to some of you!), he goes on blah, blah, blah about love, family. From the western culture, it's sort of sweet. Even in Japan, I guess it's OK for the sensitive types. But samurai? No. Samurai is a doer. He is (supposed to be)hard. Samurai doesn't blabber, especially about love. It may be poetic, but I'm not gonna lie, my eyes were starting to roll as I fast forwarded some of it.

We're going to have to disagree on what a 'samurai' really is. Especially during those times at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate.

North by Northwest (Alfred Hitchcock, 1959)

Despite knowing that this film is widely regarded as one of the best thrillers ever made, I put off watching it for a couple of weeks and only got round to it last night. I was pleasantly surprised, both by the movie and by the Blu-ray presentation. The film itself is a gripping thriller, and Cary Grant is as likable as he is funny, as he struggles to make sense of the strange events unfolding around him. Even I recognised several of the more iconic scenes in the movie - if you've ever seen anything like "The 100 Greatest Scenes in Movie History", then you'll have seen atleast some of this film already! The Blu-ray is amazing, though - I wasn't expecting the film to look half as good as this - it could have been filmed yesterday for all I could tell.

One little bonus was a scene where Grant meets a beautiful woman on a train. She claims to be 26, but I thought "No way is she 26, she looks more like my age..." So being a geek, I looked her up on IMDB, and lo and behold, she was actually 35 when she appeared in this film :D

8/10 - Will probably grow on me, and a definite consideration for purchase.

We're going to have to disagree on what a 'samurai' really is. Especially during those times at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate.
That's fair. I will say this though, even when I was growing up in Japan(not during Edo-Jidai, contrary to popular belief lol), that type of behavior by guys were looked down upon. Obviously, not all samurai, regardless of from what era, behaved the way expected of bushi. I guess I found the main character way too emotional in a romantic way, too chatty, even, to be a respectful samurai. Respectful in the traditional manner, not in our modern way. Anyway, that's my opinion on that.

I've got the Blu-ray and have to agree it is excellent, which also includes exactly what you are after, 23 minutes of deleted footage most of which is them in conversation and playing.

Must admit I'm a big confused as to why some of the deleted scenes were deleted in the first place and its 23 minutes that would have added greatly to an already great documentary.

In particular the scenes with Seven Nation Army and Kashmir.

Jesus Camp (Heidi Ewing, Rachel Grady, 2006) -- A documentary on kids who attend a summer camp hoping to become the next Billy Graham. Taken to an extreme, this movie is about little kids getting tortured and brainwashed into believing god is the right way to explain everything and all that stuff Evangelism teaches. In the end I found it to be a very sad reality about the state of religion within the US, and that's a personal opinion. The documentary does very little to try and sway your opinion (as it should), but they don't make any sort of effort to hide the level of commitment these kids have for the church and how sad they can become when they're exposed as non-believiers or betrayers (even if they're not). I was ready to bash heads after a while. 7/10

Walk All Over Me (Robert Cuffley, 2007) -- A small town girl runs into big time trouble as she takes on her roommates identity as a dominatrix to pay the bills. Unrtuntaely, it runs out of plot about 30 minutes into the movie and just becomes Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo meets Striptease. Sobieski plays a dominatrix who's learning the ropes, yet never becomes one... she just orders people around (in a very insecure manner). The sexiness factor is all but lost, since there's nothing to see at any point, either; which brings me to an interesting point: I'd say it's fairly obvious to say this movie isn't for younger audiences, yet they didn't even manage to throw in a decent amount of F-word heavy dialogues nor any kind of interesting/intelligent scripting. The movie just seemed to me as a blatant attempt to take a controversial profession and turning it into a gag by making fun of the dominatrix and the subs. It didn't work out. 4.5/10

I just got done watching Blow with Johnny Depp, older movie but haven't seen it in years and it was fixing to start on one of the movie channels I have so I watched it. Great movie like I remembered! Hopefully I will be able to get my wife to see The Wolfman tomorrow night when we go out. She wanted to see a movie something like Dear John or Writing John or something like that which is a complete girl movie so I wasn't looking forward to it but I agreed to go see it since it will be our valentines date. Luckily tonight while we were at a book store and she was getting a book she wanted she was asking the lady there about the book that movie was made from and she told her the book was fantastic but the movie was just horrible and told her to for sure read the book but don't waste her time on the movie, and no she wasn't trying to sell the book because she didn't work there. So hopefully there will be nothing else that she wants to see and we will end up in The Wolfman, I'm a big fan of the classic films and this looks like a non over the top, respectful redo of the original, unlike most redone films that ruin the original film.

And thanks for posting that about Jesus Camp Servo, going to get it tomorrow to watch, yeah I'm not a big fan of religion so I like watching things done like this. Have you seen the documentary that was done on the Westboro Baptist Church? If not find it somewhere and watch it a.s.a.p, those people are beyond belief, people that act the way they act towards other humans just blow my mind, especially since they are "christians". Wow, just wow....

I've seen bits here and there, though it seems it wasn't a real documentary (released as a video), but a BBC report that's made its way around youtube. It's not easy to find, but I'm currently watching a 6-minute part of it. I did enjoy when Brüno apprached them, though.

Whoa, awesome! I'll watch it during the weekend for sure.

I'm just done watching this one:

Die Geschichte vom weinenden Kamel (a.k.a. The Story of the Weeping Camel) (Byambasuren Davaa, Luigi Falorni, 2003) -- A documentary piece on an actual Mongolian legend, taking place within a Mongolian family in the Gobi desert. It'a about a camel colt who is rejected by its mother, and a musician is needed for a ritual to change her mind. It also shows the life and traditions of the Mongolians and the differences of older vs. younger generations. It's a documentary, so there's no added drama or make believe, but it's also a bit of recreating the legends. Great movie, though a tad slow. But then again, were it not so, I doubt it would've had the impact it did. 7.5/10

About the last thing I'd choose to watch is a documentary, doubly so if said doc is about religion but I watched the video in your link. I've heard of the Westboro Baptist Church before but I haven't seen anything this in depth.

I was disappointed that they didn't show the Hells Angels bikers at some point but that may have been because the doc was shot before the Angels did their own protesting.

Despite their complete over-the-top mentality, I don't think anyone deserves to have things thrown at them, especially a 7 year old kid.

__________

I'll be watching Zombieland tonight. Reaction will follow shortly thereafter. Based on some of your comments, I'm very optimistic. Hope you lot don't disappoint but with my track record, it'll be hard to top my latest string of crapflicks™.
