Serpico. Pretty good movie, 7.5/10 by anybody's standards, but I feel a lot like this guy, an unappreciated and even sabotaged whistleblower in a world full of cheats and corruption. Good guys finish last. So, if you're like me, you might give this an 8.5/10 or 9/10. Amazing to see Pacino so young.

Wow, you been slacking this year, after averaging 2/day and getting 3/day some months, you're down to less than 1/day for 2011!

Meant to say, about Entre Marx, it was a national phenomenon. Almost no movies come out of Ecuador, so when this admittedly mediocre p.o.s. was released, everybody went ape****. Like when Ecuador got it's first Olympic gold in the Marcha (seriously, there's an endurance event where you have to walk forever while always keeping one foot on the ground???), or like when they won their first World Cup game. It's really sad, because the local culture down there was amazing, but everybody values the global acclaim more for some dumb reason...

Pearl Harbor (2001)
A really great movie in my opinion.. It's a really emotional one at parts too, but all in all, it has the epic stuff I look in for World War II movies, I still prefer Saving Private Ryan.
8/10, the move is 3 hours long :S

Oh yeah, I know what you mean. Venezuela has always sucked at football, mainly because we're in the CONMEBOL and would like to be in the CONCACAF instead, so whenever there's World Cup competitions, we get to play against Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and all those hard-hitting teams. We played Brazil yesterday and tied 0-0, and the amount of partying was amazing. Same happens with almost everything else.

The blog got more than one movie per day because at the time I was transcribing all my reviews from this thread to that one. Now I've done most of it already and I'm back to my usual rhythm of 2-3 movies per week. Also, back in 2005-2009 I used to work at home (freelance design) and had a lot of free time. Not so much nowadays, thankfully.

The King's Speech (2010)

High expectations, mostly met... superb performances by Colin Firth (who won the Best Actor Academy Award for this role) and an equally brilliant performance by fellow Best Actor Academy Award winner, Geoffrey Rush (Shine, 1999). Even Helena Bonham Carter comes off well in this film, excellent actress as she is, she usually gets on my tits. The only slightly mis-cast actor was Guy Pierce, who plays Firth's older brother, but he was still pretty good too.

I'm not sure this is the sort of film that could stand many replays, and hence it is probably not going to be a library purchase - but it is a must-see, top-priority rental. 8/10

Well said. I'm not a fan of Helena either but she doesnt get in the way on this film...it is a must see for everyone.

DOTM in what can only be described as the worst cinema experience ever (I'll explain later)The Movie was one of all time coolest Movies ever ,Granted it isn't the best Movie you will ever see but its a transformers Movie .The new whats her face girl is hot as hell and an arguably better actress than Megan Fox,Shia (although I am not the guy's biggest fan)did act well in the Movie,Nice to see the gang back with some new additions to the crew And finally for Bay redemption for the horror show that is the fallen.A detailed review later but I'll go and listen to the whole score on Youtube now (the Scorponk score didn't feature sadly)but the soundtrack was rock solid (S.J again I think)as ever.Oh and the cars and Invasion scenes are the Top things in the Movie.

Bound (Andy Wachowski, Lana Wachowski, 1996) -- Previously known as The Wachowski Brothers, this is the movie that marked them well enough to receive the financial support to make The Matrix. It certainly is a controversial movie with tons of lesbian love, about a tough female ex con and her lover, who concoct a scheme to steal millions of stashed mob money and pin the blame on the boyfriend of one of hers. The movie turns out to be a very intelligent and erotic flick that doesn't really get in your face with lesbianism (provided you don't have a problem with it from the get go), and which sets the tone as well, because the relationship between the characters is also based on that same fragility of being curious in a different type of relationship; so it's not something like they added a lesbian tone to it to make it different. Another thing I liked about the movie is the cinematic detail, though its a bit disturbing and intriguing how the Wachoskis work on it. I'd say if you're a fan of The Matrix, you should check this one out. 8/10

Saw Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon

Well, let's see. There were a lot of explosions and some robots. And about an hour into the movie my contact started bothering me. Those are the positive highlights of the movie. Just about everything else about the movie was just plain dumb. Bad plot, bad acting, and an unnecessary cameo by Ken Jeong. And seriously, When Megan Fox was out of the picture, the casting people could have chosen anyone else to replace her, and yet they chose the one woman with lousier acting. Such a waste.

2/10

Part of what bothered me about the movie, was the way the new "Laboeuf girl" was introduced. To quote a review I read, it was "rump first, questions later". Literally the first shot of the film was of her ass. That kind of thing just cheapens the whole movie for me right from the beginning, because it just portrays her as a sex object. I'm not a feminist or anything, but that kind of stuff in movies just turns me off of them.

If I want to see a close up of a model's ass, I'd look in the 🤬 thread in the Infield, or elsewhere on the internet. All in all the movie was just stupid. Some scenes were far, far, faaaarrr too long, and some scenes, which are very important, are cut short. I just don't get why it's necessary to spend a half hour watching Shia Laboeuf try to get a job, but Optimus Prime's final battle lasts 15 seconds. 2 hours and 40 minute run time was absurd too.

Transformers 3. 2/10

Yikes.

Sure, it's better than the 2nd, but the 2nd was just awful. There's no reason for the movie to be 2 hours and 40 minutes.

I agree.

2 hours and 40 minute run time was absurd too.
Just think, we sat through 90 minutes, the equivalent of a regular movie, before anything exciting got started. So, we basically sat through a really crappy film, and then got a CGI demonstration.

Honestly, as this started out I felt it was going to be boring. I don't care about anyone trying to correct their speech impediment. It seemed like a fairly poor story topic in light of all the stories of people overcoming great challenges. Add in that we are talking about royalty, and I am on royalty burn out right now, and it definitely isn't that same kind of every day man overcomes type thing, and I had what seemed like it should be a boring story about someone I can't relate to.

But the writing overcomes all of that. I became interested. This wasn't a prince, it was the younger brother of a more popular man, living in that shadow. This wasn't some royal doctor, but a commoner, struggling to find work in his passion.

It was good. I don't know if it was Oscar worthy, but the acting and writing was top notch.

The Magdalene Sisters (Peter Mullan, 2002) -- A very mind provoking film about 3 young women whom, under tragic circumstances see themselves cast away to a Magdalene Asylum for young women t in 1964. Like many such institutions, the asylums are run like prisons and young girls are forced to do workhouse laundry and hard labor. These existed in Theocratic Catholic Ireland, for supposedly 'fallen' women. But in reality, young girls were imprisoned indefinitely and forced to endure agonizing punishments and a long, harsh working system which left them physically drained and mentally damaged. As the girls bond together, it soon becomes clear that the only way out of the Magdalene convent is to escape, so the movie becomes a sort of prison-escape movie with the tenderness of a chick flick.

Make no mistake, this is by no means a tender movie, as it especially portrays Catholics as cruel and sadistic in a very high quality manner, as in the movie is very well done. The characters are realistic enough and it really helps to develop a certain empathy for the girls imprisoned. The movie is worth it, if you can stomach it. The director stated the movie was made initially because the many victims of Magdalene Asylums had no closure. They received no recognition, compensation or apology, even when many remained lifelong devout Catholics. 8/10

The strangest thing I thought, was where they decided to spend the time. We got to watch Laboeuf try to get a job and have an awkward encounter in the bathroom for a half hour, but Optimus Prime's final climactic battles with Sentinel/Megatron lasted what, 3 minutes? Hell, the close up on whatshername's ass was longer than Optimus vs Megatron.

I unspoilered that part since it won't ruin anything.

To rehash my long post in the dedicated thread, we had entire 20-30 minutes chunks of a movie about giant robots without giant robots.

It might as well be a series of sci-fi Harry Potter live-action stories.

have seen the SENNA movie yesterday...
wow...
that man must have been such a big personality...
I mean I did'nt met him myself so i don't know exactly..but it seems he had a very fine character, huge sense of justice, humor and passion!!!
So sad he past away way too early...
On the morning of his "good bye" in imola "sid watkins" (former chief doctor of F1) said to him: "Ayrton, you won 3 titles etc. Why don't we both quit and go fishing?!"...
Ayrton: "Sid, I can't quit!"... a few hours later he past away...
That caused kind of goosebumbs...

[Prost and the former fia boss the didn't really come off well in that movie...maybe with good reason...]

RIP Ayrton...

Saw BULLITT. Had huge expectations and all that from all the hype I've heard over the many, many years.
Can't say I was blown away. The car chase was pretty disappointing but that may be due mostly to how long it actually took for it to become somewhat exciting.
Then the twist and ending. Just what the hell was that?

Baisers Volés (a.k.a. Stolen Kisses) (François Truffaut, 1968) -- One of the adventures of Antoine Doinel, this time we follow him as he's discharged from the army and his reunion with Christine Darbon, the girl he was in love with before the beginning of the film, and his adventures in his jobs. This is a movie from the 'l'epoque' of French existential firmmaking, not overtly political despite having its core in May of 1968, a time of great political demonstrations, but it does manage to capture the revolutionary feel that ended up in Godard and Truffaut calling for a cancellation of the Cannes Film Festival in 1968. Hence, Baisers Volés works as a statement of that refusal... to deny the making of a political movie in a time of great political movement, making it strangely and suspiciously unpolitical. The film also reflects a lot of the national sentiment regarding life, the future and consequences, but all in a very light way which really is the film's greatest quality, because as I said before it was made in a time of very heavy physical, psychological, political and societal issues, showing they can be overcome. 7/10

After Serpico decided to watch the Godfather. Great movie, to be sure, lots of development makes for 2h40m and a very well built up and kind of frustrating ending which I'm thinking was planned to lead into Godfather II.

Also, this Documentary Sharkwater. Kind of amateurish but pretty powerful, and full of beautiful underwater footage. Guy likes sharks, works at filming them. Notices there aren't as many as there used to be, discovers this is because 90% of the world's sharks have been killed recently by long-line fishing just for their fins, which when dried are $200/lb in the Chinese market. So he decides to see what he can do, and make a documentary of it. And in the process ties the massive decline of this older-than-the-dinosaurs group of species to a potential threat to the planet like global warming, since 70% of the world's oxygen comes from ocean critters, and without the top predator, the whole ecosystem is threatened with turmoil.

Hope I didn't spoiler that too much...

Transformers 3
Didnt get to see this in 3d but it was a good movie. I liked the 1st and 3rd the most. Didnt care for the 2nd movie much at all.

Horrible Bosses.
Very funny movie. Some parts had me laughin really hard. It was a bit strange at first to see Jennifer Aniston playing a part like she did in this movie.

Yup Napoleon Dynamite is up in my top 5 favorite funny movies. So many funny quotes and scenes but it really is an acquired humor. You either get it or you dont. The steak scene and the time machine are my favorite.

Det. Bullitt ends up shooting and killing the very man he was determined to protect.
