Heres my story: While I was looking for porn, I stumbled across a site full of avatars.

Just kidding. I basically took this from a site. I know I didn't make it nor did I have permission but... What did you expect? It's on the World Wide Web.

I made mine, from scratch. I took my mom's digital camera, it does short no-audio movies. I had my brother put it on the fire hydrant infront of my house, and drove the 323 down the street, turned around, and drove slowly past as my brother recorded it. From there, I uploaded the movie file into my, uhh, well, free perminant "trial" of Ulead GIF animator 5, resized it, cut frames out, and optimized it. The result is me endlessly driving by in a little window on your computer monitor.

75% of my avatars are photos I take, and then I pop them into Fireworks for a border and maybe some text.

About 20% I find on the web; I scale them down or crop as necessary.

The other 5% are completely made from scratch by yours truly.

I've never directly taken an avatar from anyone else, save the time 50 of us used M5Power's for a day or two.

I make my own avatars, though I usually get the base image from Google. Sometimes they are pictures I take myself. If I start with a web image (like my Cerebus one, or the old PowerBook "neon duke"), I add a little animation to spice them up.

I voted for "I took it from someone else." It was in the GTP icon thingie, and I just sorta randomly chose it. I dont care too much about my icon or my sig (which is why I dont have one). I probably won't change my avatar any time soon. I have them all turned off anyway, as well as sigs.
