Im not trolling or stupid but i think you just might be. Lol jk i know this is for racing wheels but in my oppinion i wouldnt get one at all. the dualshock three is what i use as a wheel. So i qualify for using this thread

Who gives a crap what you use? The OP asked what wheel is best, not how fast you may or may not be on a controller.

For some of us, we could care less if we're faster on a DS3 than a wheel. The game is infinitely more fun with a steering wheel/pedals.

my first wheel was a driving force gt but I blew it up drifting. Then I went with a Fanatec gt3rs and I love it. never gets too hot either.

There is no best wheel for GT5. There are several options and which ever one the person owns that answers the question, their's will be the best one.
You can't really go by what people will say in this thread. You need to just research the wheels I am listing and see which one has the features you want, and a price you can live with.
There is the
Logitech DFGT
Logitech G25 and G27
Fanatec 911 carrera wheel
Fanatec 911 GT2 wheel
Fanatec 911 GT3 rs v2 wheel
Fanatec is also coming out with a very high end pc and ps3 wheel that would be worth waiting for if you only want top of the line.
Thrustmaster T500 rs

All of these wheels have force feedback, and are of decent to very good quality. You could buy any of these and be happy with your purchase.
In all honesty the best bang for your buck would probably be the G27. It has decent pedals, a shifter, quality wheel, and is very nicely priced for a good sim wheel.
I myself have a Fanatec 911 turbo s wheel, and really like it. It's the same as the GT2 wheel. I bought it because it would work with all the consoles, but now that I have got into PC racing, if I had it to do over I would probably buy something else, because I really don't care about the console part anymore.
The one really nice thing about the fanatec wheels is that they have firmware upgrades that add features, and they are always working on new upgrades to add to your racing setup. With logitech, what you buy is what you get.

The best wheel for GT5 to me is G27 since the wheel is shaped so I can attach a controller at the center of the wheel (with a few rubber bands).

What do you need the controller attached to it for?

To add more (customizable) buttons to the wheel, plus a PS button. Not really an issue for all the non-G25/27 wheels, but vital when you only have 2 functioning wheel buttons on either of those setups.

On a budget, the DFGT is your best bet. I have one and I love it, the only complaints I have about it are the pedals are a little "squishy" and the plug/jack that goes into the wheel which allows you to use the pedals falls out a lot if you drive enough to send vibrations through the wheel, so I have it taped on, other than that, I love it. I recommend it for sure. If money isn't an issue and you want to go all out, go for a Logitech G27 or one of the Fanatec Porsche wheels, preferably the GT3 RS. Either way get a wheel, you can't properly enjoy GT5 or its physics without a good wheel, some might disagree and say a controller is fine, but in my opinion, you need a wheel to properly enjoy GT5, or any racing game for that matter.

Definitely the Thrustmaster T500 RS, the best bang for your buck.

Unless your joking? I just can't see how that is a better bang for the buck wheel then the G27. It doesn't even come with a shifter and it's over 500$. You can get a G27 for 300$, and if you are on logitechs mailing list, they regulary send out coupons for big savings. Just recently it could have been had for 150$ with the 50% off coupon they sent out. 150$ for a new G27 is by far the best bang for the buck wheel out there. Even at 300$ the G27 is still a great deal as far as wheels go. The cheapest i just seen the t500 for was 540$ without a shifter.

Well I don't recall the OP specifying a price range. If you have the budget then the t500rs is a good way to go if we're talking fun factor. Critic after critic voted this was their wheel. Checkout ISR's t500rs review and their other material. If they don't float your boat a quick google will most likely back them up. and this was all written before the T8RS was even announced officially in which ISR already demoed and proclaimed best shifter out there. My wheel's future is very bright

All that being said, Fanatec gt3rs + CSP + SST would be nice I'd say. Only problem is the Porche logo. It looks beautiful but what console games even have a Porche (fm3, shift2, but not fm 4)? Not Fanatec's fault. But keep an eye out for those new Fanatec wheels as well if you're in no hurry.

Honestly, the Logitech g27 would be my last choice probably. To get it into the t500rs / fanatec quality range it would cost a pretty penny for some mods. I was looking at a g27 other day at Fry's upclose. It was a great wheel for its time. But that time is gone, at least for gt5. Why pay all that money for a new wheel not even really supported? You see that Logitech G27 Petition thread? They begging PD for an update that probably won't ever come.

Going forward, I see Thrustmaster and Fanatec being the new wave of exciting products while the G27s are pushed out of the way. Logitech just not stepping up. Great wheel for other games sure. But not worth the hassle and aggravation I see in those petition threads

Link to ISR's buying guide:

To be clear my list (just for GT5):
1) T500rs
2) Fanatec gt3rs + CSP
3) Logitech G25 + mods
4) DFGT
5) Logitech G27 + mods

* Once again I've only used t500rs and DFGT personally. Only saying what I "would" choose if I were buying.

Really appreciate the input from you all, I now have a place to start from. Only minor disappointment is I was hoping everyone would name the same wheel, but that would have made it too easy I guess. But thanks again for going to the trouble to reply.
dlone47, on line.

Nah i have one and you have to reset the pedals every single race otherwise they wont work

I still say Fanatec is the best bang for your buck. For the reason that dropping 300 plus bones on a setup, IMO, should be able to be used across all platforms. The logitechs are great, but not being able to be used on xbox is a factor...for me at least.

Fanatec would be #1 if you have an xbox but since the OP mentioned GT5 only I'd still put it at #2 due to weaker ffb & wheel speed. But this is liable to change with the upcoming CSW. It's going to be a tight contest between t500rs & CSW. Of course if money is a factor then yeah a gt3rs + CSP is the way to go. Not sure how big of a difference that is (only $100 or so). But t500rs makes up for that if you live in US, can just walk into a store and purchase (ask for price matching but still might have to pay taxes)

Yeah, he mentioned GT5, I understand. Just saying, me personally, with that kind of money (300+ bucks isnt cheap for me), I would want something future-proof. GT2 with clubsports on on par with t500rs, and it works with everything.

Wouldnt want to drop that dough and get cornholed into being stuck on the PS3/PC only. And just about anyone that likes race games is at least a little interested in FM4.

T500 for GT5. (best and official high end wheel for GT5)

if you're on a limited budget then DFGT

Will the upcoming shifter work with GT5 though.

As of now I still don't think that has been clarified.

No,I think it will work in GT5 when you use the H shiftbox,if not,I think T500RS user will accuse Kazunori Yamauchi.Because G25/27's clutch can work in GT5 and Kazunori said T500RS is design for GT5,but the function are incomplete. From this,I guess it will work

i assume so, since it an official GT5 supported wheel, am sure we will get a PS3 update before release as we did when the wheel first launched

Sucks for other PS3 games though.

Problem with xbox/FM4 though you're sacrificing the most powerful wheels (t500rs & CSW) just to play 1 game (fm 3 / fm 4). And for sure gt2 isn't onpar with the t500rs in any review I've read apart from endgadget which choose gt2 because it was cheaper and they didnt care for t500rs heaviness (I admit I had to grow some muscle to cart it around on my WSP).

If you search these forums or iRacing people that have both wheels they choose t500rs everytime apart from 1 or 2 odd ones. However, they do keep the CSPs (pc gamers) and sell their gt2.

t500rs will soon have the perfect shifter and it's very good with the realistic brake mod. but to my dismay, CSPs I still hear are preferred (that reminds me I should order some for iRacing to demo)

So it's down between brakes vs great wheel. If you want the best brakes I'd wait for Clubsport Wheel if you dont care bout xbox.

I think t500rs is coming into its' own on the ps3 with gt5, brilliant dirt 3 support, and NASCAR The Game. I agree with the other poster GT5 will surely support the T8RS. I'm assuming that's how Thrustmaster tested their shifter on the PS3 platform but I could be wrong. They might have used a developer kit. But I still think for sure it will be supported being the official GT5 wheel, etc

Very true, in a perfect world I could afford more than one wheel, or all the wheels would be cross platform....could you imagine that? So much better.

I just wanted to give the OP my thought process on how I chose a wheel.
