 Lets just say that quoting wikipedia as "proof" is like me saying I asked a bloke in the pub and saying he agreed with me.

What other proof? How about a credible website first?

Where's your proof that they can?

I have a semi-reliable source and history on my side, what do you have?

There is a rule in the AUP against posting false info as fact, you may want to read it.

GT5P - Uses F2007
rFactor - Uses F1.06
Live for Speed - Uses F1.06
The latter two feature cars also featured in the officially licensed Sony game(s) for the 2006 season, which is why I conclude that the FOM only have full control on the words "Formula 1" but not necessarily its cars and circuits.
If FOM controls the rights, then either these games found a hefty loophole or the FOM allowed them to use the cars. So if this is the case, then I see no reason why GT cannot continue to feature modern F1 cars. I believe FOM don't have exclusive control over the copyrights on the cars and that the teams have at least partial control in this area (under the provision of marketing purposes for sponsors).

I simply don't agree with the posts effectively stating that "its impossible for F1 to be in", when its clearly not the case. I also question whether its really an issue with the FOM or if there are alternative ways.

I have my opinion and evidence to the contrary, I will happily accept to be proven wrong, when someone provides me a reliable source to read (in other words, not a wikipedia quote with no citation or just a simple "this is fact").

I don't believe I provided false information anywhere in my posts, purely an opinion and a challenge. And now I have provided my reasoning and evidence upon asking. Show me where I have broken the AUP? :)

Nobody held the F1 license for 07 so there really isn't any argument there.

rFactor - Uses F1.06
Live for Speed - Uses F1.06

Both of those were through partnerships with Intel, which would be the loophole. (I haven't played either game but I would guess they aren't called F1 cars, probably Formula BMW)

I read on here somewhere that Sony held the license up until the end of 2008, but they just didn't use it, which became partly why they lost the license to Codemasters. This would possibly be why GT5P was allowed the F2007, but regardless, it doesn't really backup the "impossible" statements.

See, I don't see where it makes sense for video games to be treated differently than any other merchandise a team/constructor approves. Surely the FOM doesn't go through each and every model maker and die-cast model? Wouldn't all this be up to the team and their marketing department? Or the sponsors? I would have thought the teams would sign a contract with FOM regarding the use of "Formula 1" in their merchandise but I doubt they would have so much control over where the cars are used and how they are represented - what does it matter to FOM that Forza made the latest Williams look rubbish or whatever? As long as such games aren't attempting to make money from featuring a F1 championship, I see no reason why we can't have 1 or 2 cars. The key is not to cause people to buy an unofficial game over the official game, and also to make the license relevant, I think that the license merely makes it easier than asking for each specific car license and allows the game to make full use of the marketing of "F1", which an unofficial game couldn't.

On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if FOM did have contracts with the teams and did handle such matters. But I question whether its such a black and white situation.

I would guess it's written into the contract teams sign when they join that FOM has control over the teams likeness.

Well, guesses are all well and good, but if people are going to start acting like its fact and claiming its impossible we will see up-to-date cars, then I want to see some sources stating it. I'm fine with people assuming, I'm assuming.

I don't think it's impossible, just highly unlikely.

If we can have a livery editor than we can make liveries of DTM or FIA GT cars out of custom ones

im a regular on the site constantly checking for news and been a fan of gt since the beginning.

but i just registered to give my 2 cents in the hope that some one at pd, that has a big imput in the game, keeps check on this site - every little help

anyway ... i would love btcc to be in the game... even if the series isnt in- i would like to see the cars ( or at least the models with a livery editor , wink wink)

if any one didnt follow the btcc this year and follow wtcc, check out itv.com as all the races are archived. it was right down to the wire on the final race.. all 3 champion ship leaders put up a fight for the title... and it was PURE RACING AT ITS BEST bring on 2010 season

ps... go karts would be a cool little addition

As long as there are a lot of "what if" threads, I thought that I would put a poll out here to see what racing series not currently announced you would like to see show up in a future GT game.

Share your thoughts, if I missed one choose "Other" and post in the discussion.

I say DRIFT. It would have been cool to have some cool 1vs1 short drift sessions for scoring.

destruction derby?

Sometimes a lot of the online-races in GT5P unfortunately seem to replicate Destruction Derby, but on the subject i voted for touring cars ( but they already exist for a large part in GT, dooh!:ouch: ).
Also i seem to remember an annual 24 hour race purely for highly tuned racing-spec Citroen 2CV's in the UK, i think it was on the Snetterton Circuit, that would be fun although i'm quite aware a lot will disagree.

I didn't find the right words at the first post, the routine I was looking for is Rally Cross, or as it's called here in sweden: Folkrace;)

as far as online racing in GT5p, yeah I know, unfortunatley it seems to be A LOT of immature drivers, that just love to sabotage races.

It's a shame, I for one love a honest race;)

I agree, if you like Rally Cross or Folkrace you might like to try the first Dirt game, it had several Rally Cross events, although the amount of different cars was limited ( including Saab 900 Turbo ).

I've got both Dirt & Dirt 2, and the Viggen in Dirt was awesome to drive in my opinion. I'd really like Saab to be in GT5. Maybe I should tell you, I used to own a Saab 900 -92 (no turbo though) and nowadays I drive a Saab 9-3 -01.

Really fun car to drive;)

All, the more the better. 👍 If I was picking from a marketing perspective, I'd pick F1 to go with WRC and NASCAR.
If I was picking from a gameplay point of view, Touring Cars or FIA GT would make the most sense, as we are missing some of the great tracks they race on and GT already has some of the cars in and supports such racing.
