Sorry but that's not quite right.

Now glossing straight over the finer details, the real techies here can pull this apart but it is basically correct.

IP addresses are assigned, sometimes (quite often) they are assigned dynamically, which means you could log on to the internet any number of times and each time you could have different IP address.

It is also quite conceivable that if two members of GTP are in the same postcode area (ZIP code) on the same ISP that they could be sent through the same router and depending on how that router was set up it would appear that both machines were using the same IP address, likewise hostname, although that is less likely.

You see there just aren't enough IP addresses to go round, there is even talk of introducing another octet to IP addresses so ISP's have to trick the internet by using IP spoofing and IP address translation via routers, or devices acting like routers.

Having said that.... it is quite possible that they are indeed both the same person.

Don't forget about proxy servers, either! :)

I added it into Excel and you'll see what the stuff represents...

Hehe, guess I finally get that recognition for a senior member.
If we were to back to the days on MSN, that would really show how long we have been around.
Im number three. Funny how this has always been my lucky number and Mom always said good things come in three's. ;)

I think some reasons of why the graphs have been changing so much are:

1) We've not really set a 'definate' time window
2) People are using their old, original sn's, as well as other ones they created around the early times(sharmad, crb, I would say HUDSON, but he kind of looks closer to me than to the other two...)
3) People are telling their friends to check out the forums again(which isn't necessarily bad...)

Yeah Josh, I remember you all talking about this. :)

I guess I consider myself a senior member since I was here before vB was installed. :D Or at least I think so. I was here whenever GTP just had little ugly yellow folders and if it was a hot topic it had ugly little flames over it. Know what I mean?

Yup, thats the true senior members. ;) :)
Viper, there was a short period of time that we were on another forums board. That was kind of a transition for the site and finally went to this board.
Jordan can give all the details.
All I know is that if it wasnt for ALL the people on this site, we wouldnt be at the top like we are.
GTPlanet rocks on.

Lol @ Viper. :haha:
Man, dont let it get to you, its just a number.
Youve been a member that has contributed much in the time youve been here.
Maybe there should be an honorary senior member for those so chosen by his peers. ;) :D

Wouldn't that screw over ALL OF THE GAMES WHICH LET YOU JOIN VIA IP??? I mean, they only let you have 15 characters, mostly(12 for the #'s, then 3 for the .'s separating the #'s)

Would they also have to increase the number of ports? So then when you run things through routers, they know which ports go to which computers, seeing that you might get more than, what, 12K computers on one network? Just the same theory...
