Who else wants drag racing TRACKS in gt5?

Because it's a simple metric for comparing cars. There's nothing exciting or remotely interesting in it to make it a racing discipline, except for people without the skills to use a steering wheel and a brake pedal.

Drag racing reminds me of my first driving lessons where you don't get to drive for real but just get to grips with the clutch and shifting gears. It's an incomplete experience.

I for one don't miss it in GT5. 👎

Exept for people without the skills?

Who are you kidding? The only reason why dragrace always have been utterly rubbish in the GT5 is because of the physics, just press the accelerator and here we go.

I hate peoples arrogance about dragrace, Nascar and other motorsports they know nothing about. Sure, I think it's kind of boring to watch Nascar and drag but it's just idiotic to claim that you don't need any skills to compete in the montorsport I mentioned.

Wow driving in a straight line, it almost sounds as fun as driving round in circles (only turning left) :sly:

Drag racing has its moments. Actually being there is great, "competing" is even better.

I see no reason why they shouldn't add this at a convenient point in the future. GT4 had it, sort of. It wasn't really a race, though. And the strip had a curve in it.

Drag racing is for fast cars.

The Nürburgring is for fast drivers.

I'll gladly stick with what we have.

I'm not a fan of drag racing, but I would love it in GT5.

But as Destinkeys has stated, there are lots of stuff to be fixed in GT5.

A half-arsed attempt at implementing drag racing would be even more frustrating:mad:

NFS:Underground had it. Lame stuff.

Dragracing has nothing to do with skill, but only with "mine is longer than yours" comparisons of horsepower/weight ratios. :dunce:

Drag racing?

so you're sayin your's is shorter than mine?

they need to make an official one for you you kids who fill up online with 32 rooms for drag racing.

As you can tell car physics in this game are way different than in real life if your trying to drag race in Gran Turismo 5

Yes, Underground's drag mode was pretty laughable.
Unfortunately, I suppose a lot of the "street scene" mentality probably ruins the appeal of a straight-out drag race for many. It is the very first (grid starts, anyone?) and most natural form of motor-racing, though.

I doubt you'd say 100 m sprinters have no skill. ;)
There are different kinds of drag racing competitions, and many actually do require skill, and there is certainly more to it than power/weight ratios. To say otherwise only comes across as ignorant.

I personally "prefer" balancing a car through a set of tough corners, but sometimes a good drag race is all you need to blow out the cobwebs!
And if you want to be pedantic, all competition is nothing more than a pissing contest at its very core...

Drag racing dates back to ages ago. (historical value) Drag racinng your buddy and tuning your car to get every ounce of hp/torque to the track can make for memorable moments. (fun value)

So all we need is:
1) Drag strip.
2) Tire pressure.
3) Clock.

2 of those are simple to add. The tire pressure... I'm not sure about. When you're heading down the final stretch neck-to-neck what are you most concerned about? Surely not how many g-forces your car can handle.

Its simple and its fun... not to mention 0-400 and 0-1000 (with truly customizable gearboxes) can help you dial in a car for short tracks, with a timer for solid feedback on any changes you've made.

I don't do Nascar or karting, but I'm not screaming about how much it doesn't appeal to me. Drag racing has a history... and you wouldn't have classic muscle cars without this history, and perhaps other features we see today. Who knows how much it has snowballed into bigger things, yet left to be forgotten.

Heh.. yes. It probably does. I notice that the people that do drag racing online also have a certain attitude and way of 'expressing themselves' that I find hard to identify with.

It's one aspect of car-racing culture I can do without. :sly:

For the same reason I don't drag race in real life. Boooring

To each their own. I found drag racing at a track to be a real blast in my Mustang! I also liked it in GT4, gives you a good idea of how the cars accelerate.

Tell me that dragracing doesn't require skill when have tried to drive a 7seconds car.

It's a all about throttle control, keeping the car steady and reaction time, and this requires a huge amount of skill if you not want to end up in the fence or your opponents lane. But sure, it may sound easy but it's not. And don't forget the G-forces.

If you have driven a high horsepower car you know how sensitive the throttle is.

Unfortunately, as I said before, since the physics in GT5 is way off when it comes to acceleration from zero, dragracing wouldn't be fun at all.

It's all about auto racing culture - drag racing in North America is like drifting in Japan. They both seem really stupid to people who don't participate in that culture.

I would say they both seem really stupid to ignorant people.

No, you don't need to appreciate every kind of motorsport, but you could at least try to understand what the motorsport is about before bashing.

just Bah. No way.
You can just restart a normal race in GT5 after 10 seconds. there you have your drag race.
Or just go outside. There is not much needed (including wheel and brakes)for drag racing.

I think there is just too much little details about drag racing that they can't implement in a game like this. I'm a huge NHRA fan, but it really could be it's own game entirely. Plus, the peripherals available for gt5 make it much too easy to launch correctly (anyone know what it's like to try and control the launch of a 8000hp top fuel dragster on huge tires at 8psi?)

I'm not too big on drag racing in a driving simulator game.

Only if the real rules were implemented not this green light and go then more powerful car wins. there is a .5 second when the signal is sent for the green after staging. You actually start to launch before the light turns green and if you time it just right you will break the infer red beam right as the light turns green resulting in a reaction time of .500 or .000 depending on the system(if your under .000 or .500 you red light). Were you to launch once it did turn green you would be about a second slower. In real drag racing how powerful the car is doesn't matter you have to choose what time your going to do. Example if there are 2 cars one says its going for 14 seconds and the other says its going for 7.5 seconds the 14 second would launch 6.5 seconds before the the 7.5 second car the first to the finish line wins. If you go faster than your time you are disqualified. Alot of things can change your time mid day cause the track heats up resulting in better traction, how full the tank is, tire pressures. Drag racing is nowhere near as boring or as simple as people think it is.

To be quite honest I would only see a 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, and standing mile track as a useful benchmark to see how various tunes affect how well you get out of the hole. Since it's a video game and doesn't give you any sense of the G forces being pulled, it's kind of difficult to enjoy it for what it really is. just my opinion though

Personly I dont think drag tracks are necersarly because the "street style" drag on ssr7 etc works very well. But I think that more highway type tracks would be cool (y)

1) Drag strip.
2) Tire pressure.
3) Clock.

Allow me to add something:

4) More detailed tire temperatures
5) Better low-speed tire physics model
6) Drag tires
7) Engine/transmission/tire failures upon load stresses (not only impacts)
8) More detailed, drag-specific tuning

To be fun, and not only a race where the faster car wins, it would need to have typical rules, false starts, mechnical damage, some kind of switch remove completely braking power on one axle to make burnouts properly, etc.

But somehow I feel it would be ironically too much complex for the audience PD/KY/Sony have in mind.

I drag race in real life.
There is no way PD could make drag racing interesting in this game the way the game is set up.
There is so much unique to drag racing (suspension tuning(link types/lengths/mounting points/geometry, layouts), air pressures, clutchs, transmissions, tq convertors etc that drag racing needs it's own game.
Shira is spot on regarding tire physics/type, engine boging, false starts.
S30Z has explained bracket racing, which I am not a fan of. I'd prefer it to be based on NHRA sportsman rules/classes.

Provide a track for amusement, fine, but please don't spend time developing a proper drag racing element when there are so many other racing items being requested.

I'm sure you have a road course nearby as well. Not much is needed for track days either. What a ridiculous argument.

Typical drag server users

-My car makes more than xxx hp than yours when is not possible example over 900hp in a GTR V spec
-Hey can you move out of the way so I can race this guy even though I ran the last race because he has the same car as mine

Tell him no and starts ramming you

He pushes you and then you push him back
-Admin xxxx is ramming us can you kick him?

Usually knows the admin and always sides with the person at fault
- Yea hes gone

Almost always race cars race with not restriction

Dont get me started on the Honda only servers
