Why do others play online with SRF off

Sorry, I was making a wisecrack. SRF adds a magical and unrealistic level of grip to the tires. Learning to drive without it will make you a much better driver. You can do it, it's just a lot different than with SRF on and will take a while for you to get comfortable with the adjustment.

And a magical and unrealistic level of fun!!!:)

Have you ever opened a room, with ABS, TC, SRF, everything off, no tuning. Then set the tire type to comfort soft tires? PP around 400 to 550. Or tired to find a room that those specs?

I have never had anyone join and stay for more than 2 minutes in my CS tire rooms. Having never tested it with math but I see way, way, way, wayyy more SRF rooms than ABS off CM to CS rooms (I have only found 2 in over a year). Sometimes I just want to really challenge the game.
We all wait.

I know how quiet such room can be :nervous:, every time I open up a no ABS practice room, most people who joined in left after a few minutes, but fortunately those who stayed rarely would ask to change room settings. I guess finding like minded no aids drivers is hard these days, maybe they are only 1% out of the world

Before anything, I drive with everything off, but ABS@1
I really don´t understand why every single time there's a thread about driving aids, there's always "problems" between people, this game allows us to decide how we want to play it, so everyone should be happy, if I want a room without aids all I have to do is look for it, if I can't find one, I'll create my own, if someone wants to drive with aids on, do the same, find or create one, for me at least is easy as that. But I don´t have the right to tell others how to play the game they've paid for and will not accept that someone tells me how to play the game I've paid for.
So what I'm trying to say is, play the game the way you want and find people that want to play in the same way as you, simple as that.

add me, 'Cubewano'.
I always use those settings and don't have much trouble finding such rooms.

SRF, as i see it, is in the game to let people use all the cars they haven't yet got the skill to control. Switch it off and start playing the game!

I hear you on that. As common courtesy it could be added in the room name. "No aids" doesn't take much room in the title.

Actually, it does. That's 25-30% of a max-length lobby title. Which leads to one of the reasons these sorts of topics keep coming up, people get sick of loading rooms and then find out they don't like the options.

The lobby list should lit you quickly get all the relevant info about a room, but it doesn't. It should also let you sort by many of these things, but it doesn't(except SRF and track family).

Barring that, you need to be able to put at least some of that info in a title, but there's not much room to spare in the title when it doesn't even give you 20 characters. Then they put your little tiny abbreviated title with all its 1-3 letter codes into a huge title bar big enough to fit one three times as long, as if to insult you. And of course to top it off, you can't change it if you made a typo / changed your mind / moved on to something else / passed over to a new host.

I use to like using SRF and what not , but the cars just felt so weird when I was cornering , almost numb. Once I started applying various peoples tunes to cars , I soon realised a good setup was more effective than most of the drivers aids.

I think one big problem is people tend to try and drive LMP cars right off the bat and they have skipped the whole learning and working their way up through the various levels of cars you find in the game. It is very much like driving in real life , we will usually be taught in fairly modest , low powered cars and over a number of year will work our way through to more powerful cars.

Not sure if I've explained clearly but to sum it up , you can't run before you've learnt to walk. The driver aids allow you to skip the walking part to a point , but at the end of the day it's artificial and really does you little favours in the long run. My preference is to have TC and ABS on 1 with all the others off and to use a car that I've applied one of the tunes from these very forums on. Another incentive was me wanting to take part in various race events on here and as far as I am aware none of them permit SRF ect.

I can understand how it is annoying to join a room and have it not set up the way you want it, and that is something that PD really needs to work on in terms of filtering.

What I do not understand is how it is unfair to the people who choose to stay in the room after they find out that it isn't set up to their liking because the room host won't change settings to accommodate them. If you aren't able to drive well with the settings that the room host has set up, that makes it your problem. Not the room host's. If he wants to accommodate you, fine. But he doesn't have to, and it isn't unfair because he won't; and it doesn't matter whether it is a cruise room, a drag room or a regular racing room.

Why the hell did Kaz add SRF into the game anyway? He says its "The Real Driving Simulator" (its getting there, be patient) but decided to add some stupid driving aid that makes any retard fast.

When I drive seosonal I do not use any aids. When I drive in my friend`s room, we use ALL aids incl srf. Guests who don`t use it, looses...We also use Race Soft tires. Not because we are faggots, but because it`s much more fun, and we can race much harder and closer. In rooms where aids are disabled, the cars drive around with enormous distance between them, because they crash over and over again. So there are mostly no close races without aids.

No comment! :odd:
SRF is a UNREALISTIC AID!!!!!
It can't be enabled in Seasonal TTs.
SRF and RS tires are FUN!! to run, but sometimes we want to race a fairly realistic race.
Your final comment is not true I run in 500pp only ABS-on/Real Grip-on/Fuel&Tires-on races at Le Manes, I was in a 4 car battle for first we were separated by .2 seconds, the other cars were 2-9 seconds behind, now some times someone else or I will spin out.If you spin out IRL you have to suck it up. So there are good races, you just have to not spin out or wreck like IRL.

Peace, Love and Chicken YUUUMMMM!!!!!

? You need to find some good aids OFF racing rooms 👍. Or you're joking.

I`m not joking. I`ve been in a lot of rooms...Crash boom bang. And the skilled leader drives alone in front, with no competition to him at all. But I DO like driving without aids, but not online. And well, there are also another reason. My friend will not disable aids, so if I want to compete with him, I have to use the exact same aids he does. And as I said, the benefit is racing without crashing that much...

Really I think SRF is for people like me who still choose to use the classic X button is gas with D-Pad steering, because there is no possible way to control the throttle properly, and steering smoothness can not be adjusted either. I know the buttons are supposed to be pressure sensitive now, but they don't work very well. =/

I use SRF because I almost kinda have to. lol

By any chance, were these "generic" rooms with little to no rules? Crashing at the beginning of the race usually doesn't have much to do with aids, or even the cars themselves. It's usually people not knowing what they're doing. They need to give each other space. It probably doesn't help when the host sets the race up to be 1 to 2 laps long.

Aids off doesn't mean crashing.

I use X throttle, square brake, analog steering. All aids off, including ABS is very possible. I don't think SRF is a requirement unless you're trying to drive with a TV remote.

hehe My friend and I also uses the sixaxis pad. And yes, it IS possible to control Your car without aids using the pad...And I DO enjoy driving seasonal events like 750pp World Circuit tour witout ANY aids...But online is something else...From time to time, I join "no-aids-rooms", but its not funny. (Thats my opinion) (Its allowed to disagree...I think)

Exorcet...I hate rooms with penalty...(rules) I`ve tried that someone ramming me off the track - and then I got the "short cut penalty" for it...gee...We have no rules in my friend`s room, and mostly people behave...

I don't use penalties either, for the same reason, they basically help cheaters more than they help racers.

What I was talking about was hp/weight/PP/tire/car class/etc restrictions. I've seen some rooms that don't even use PP or hp/weight, and instead only have some vague description in the title at best. They usually end up in a mess.

From what I've seen, rooms with well defined rules tend to be a bit more stable.

Oh OK. Yes the rooms IVe joined had restrictions...pp power weight etc. In my friends room, we only have pp. BUT I`m working on him to make up a close Year, car type AND pp match... Something like "Race Cars 2000-2005 only, 580pp. He and I are working on it.

Good rooms without aids do exist, and they can provide VERY close racing. They are few and far between, and are usually filled with friends who have been racing together for a long time, but they DO exist. Maybe you don't believe me, but those of us who know are far better off for it. The racing in these rooms can sometimes be nothing short of epic. If only I had a capture card for my PS3 I could blow your mind...

If you'd like to join us this weekend, feel free to add me on PSN. Keep in mind I have a ZERO tolerance policy for strangers causing accidents.

The problem with SRF is that it doesn't just make the car easier to drive, it also makes it faster (by increasing grip). So, why can't inexperienced drivers race with SRF and experienced race without in the same race? Simply because some experienced drivers wants to get an advantage and they'll run with SRF on to get an extra edge. So this means that everyone must be driving with SRF on if they want a fair chance of winning. The only way to get around it is to disable SRF.

What isn't fun is going into a lobby and having the host say that I can't play the game the way I want to.

Technically that's because it's the host's lobby and it's set up by how he/she wants to play the game. There's nothing stopping you from creating a new room with your own settings.

If you're having problems with rear traction, there are many of things you can do to help correct it, but it all depends on what car you're using and where you're experiencing loss of traction. Mid-turn? Exits? So, uh... where are you losing it? You mention using Race-Soft tires. Is your right foot cast in lead?

There are pretty handy flow charts for basic suspension settings to help alleviate over and understeer if you should Google Images them.

Purchase a GT Auto wing, if applicable.

You can also adjust LSD settings, but I can't really help you there. The only thing I know about LSD was that The Lion King's wildebeest stampede was awesome, and I have unusually large hands.

I concider myself as "average good" not more, not less...In seasonal TT`s I typically end up as no 2000-4000 in the World. Only once was I better then 1000 (800something) I don`t believe I will get any better. Experience is nothing, talent is everything. But when I end up about no 2-4000 means, that there are millions and millions who are noobier than me. I`m satisfied with that...I would annoy You and Your top-end driver friends in Your room...But thanks anyway man...:dunce:

Sorry I did not answer Your friendly invitation the other day. It was very impolite of me...But no thanks supernasty..Because...I don`t think I`m good enough for You and Your friends. I would make a complete idiot of myself...I concider myself as "average good" - not more, not less..In seasonal TT`s I typically end up as no 2000-4000 in the World, which I personally find OK. This means that there are millions and millions around the Globe, who are LESS talented than me. But my 6. sense tells me that You and Your friends are top-end drivers...You would find me annoying in Your room...And I don`t think I`ll get better. Experience is nothing - Talent rules.
Another thing is that i don`t have any online friends at all, and I don`t want any. My friend, with whom I race allmost every friday, is my friend IRL, but not in game...It`s not nessecery with online friends at this point...Guests come and go in our room, and thats fine...But thanks anyway man. And sorry for my 2 days too late answer to You...

I was just curious, you said that you did the seasonals TT all the time and often within 2000-4000 rank in the world, well that link I posted earlier should have all your lap times, ranks and details of how you did them, unless light driver is not your PSN id ? Don't worry about it, it's just weird to me, that it does not add up.
