Why no Top Gear test track?

Could they just have removed it because they wanted to? Ignore Forza and its TopGear content for a second... did PD just take a look online and discover that nearly every room was a "Saudi drift" room (which I still fail to understand), and just decide to remove it? They've made some decisions before...

They only came clean about it a couple months ago, the fire occurred in 2008 if memory serves.

Indeed, just another case of "wrong place at the wrong time" - its the fact they covered it up for so many years that makes them appear guilty

Top Gear weren't the ones who covered it up. They were prevented from revealing the news back in 2008. I only assume it was Mazda who didn't want the news to come out, naturally, at least at that time.

Do you know how much stuff the BBC have their hands in? Watch the end of almost any TV show and most likely you'll see BBC after the end. Movies too..

Anyways. I really like the track. Normally after a new DLC was released, I'd race em and see where they stack up on the lap times. It was also a good track to find a camber setting for flat tracks with high speed corners.. I'm going to miss it, but hope it comes back.. Along with a Kia CEE apostrophe d

So why would the BBC be credited for GT if we rule out the Top Gear license? Anyway the track is definitely coming back, it's in the game code - these tracks are bunched together

There are many things in the game code that were never intended to be seen. Case in point...

Like I said, the BBC owns more than just TG. There could be sponsorships hidden somewhere at GoodWood or in adverts at various tracks. There could also be adverts in London the BBC have their hands on...

I just don't understand why people automatically assume that BBC=TopGear, because it doesn't....

Edit- TopGear went to GoodWood last year so I know for a fact that the BBC should be there for that reason..

it's not true, that is an excuse by PD

It's correct I'm afraid. FOA owns the rights to the Formula and the spectacle of cars built to that Formula appearing together in organised events. The agreement is rooted in Concord and protects (I think) the previous 5 years of designs/images.

Teams are free to licence the image of their own cars outside that agreement with the appropriate permission of any sponsors or other brand owners.

For historic cars only the permission of the owner of the vehicle or associated imagery is required.

On Topic: It would be nice if the track was still in (the more the merrier) but it wasn't a terribly useful track, particularly for racing.

It was a great track for testing and hotlaps, since that is what it is designed and used for. Clearly it's not for racing with the crossover.

We all know PD implemented the track poorly, it really needed a Standing Start and a Leaderboard function that didn't have multiple instance of the same car (this really annoys me about PD's time sheets).

Oh and the Reasonably Priced Car, though that's not so important to me.

In programming, it's much safer to simply hide something from use when it can't be used anymore than to delete it. Especially with a game that had as much constant development as GT5 did, there's really no telling what might go wrong if you outright removed the track from the game. As an example, depending on when they created the TGTT, any track made after could have art dependencies that cause them to refer back to TGTT to load the textures or models. And it can be really hard to keep track of that sort of thing even in ideal conditions.

The way GT5 used the top gear track was rubbish, don't miss it at all

The way GT5 used it was rubbish, although I do miss it.

EDIT: It was an excellent test track, not only to compare against the real times posted by Top Gear but for a quick QC on any new tunes. I wish it would come back.

Always used TGTT and the Ring for hotlapping, when I pick up GT6 I'll use Goodwood as my new TGTT I guess, unless I can find something else.

Yeps, Mazda wanted to keep it secret. Because the car was a one off. And the sudden fire wasn't good for theire image.
Believe i read it on the BBC site of Top Gear. Sadly Mazda did not make a replica... the thing was special

That's not definite. Remember the 25 track codes of tracks missing from GT5? The only one we got as DLC was Motegi.
