It looks like a half completed Martini livery - the base shapes and stripes have been put down on the front and rear, but the design on the side of the car and the blue stripes have not been applied yet.

Kris Meeke fastest on the shakedown from Ogier and Sordo. Bit unrepresentative as it started clear but got very muddy as the cars went through.

Still a strong showing for the new i20, 3rd and 4th so should be strong going into tomorrow.

And the rally itself is underway.

Photo time!

So, after two stages, Kris Meeke carries the overnight lead despite a spin. The other big surprise is Elfyn Evans, who bested Eric Camilli and Ott Tänak in an R5 Fiesta despite the Frenchman and the Estonian having works-grade machinery.

Also, can we please change the name of the thread, seeing as how the Intercontinental Rally Challenge has been dead and buried for years now? Maybe 2016 rallying thread would be a better title, a catch-all for the WRC and European championships and anything else that comes out way.

Robert Kubica and Hayden Paddon have crashed out on the first of Friday's stages after crashing out at the same corner. Both are aiming to be back out tomorrow.

Ta, looked on their guide and they have a half hour slot at 22:35 UK time tonight, so I shall record that.
They normally do a half hour recap at the end of each day of the event. Only downside is its not normally in HD (which is the advantage of BT Sports).

I tend to watch both, much to the confusion of my wife and kids.

Really close between the top 2. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Just watched the 2015 Asia-Pacific Rally Championship review. The cars look ridiculously slow, but the thing that stood out in my mind was the Rally of China. Most of the event was run on hyper-narrow provincial roads made of slabs of concrete with a massive step on either side - one wheel wrong and the car would bottom out before the wheel hit the ground. On the rare occasion that the road surface and the surrounding countryside were level, mud had been dragged across the cement, and when the roads were tarmac, they were wickedly cambered on the shoulders. If that's what the WRC event is going to be like, it's going to be a tough rally.

Latvala has missed the start of the 12th stage, and is currently stopped on the road section after running into a ditch and hitting a spectator on SS11.

In other news, Bertelli is out after this crash:

And he wasn't even going the sort of speed that would have made avoiding the spectator unachievable. In fact he basically just accelerated straight at the spectator in question.

What the absolute 🤬 was Jari-Matti thinking? 🤬

Watch it again. I don't think he saw the spectator.

When he hits the ditch, all he's thinking about is keeping it pinned to not get stuck. Every spectator there realizes this, except for the one idiot.

When the car pops up out of the ditch, it quickly rotates 90', at the same time, the windshield becomes completely blocked by thick white steam from under the hood.

No one else is standing where the person who got hit was. He was all by himself. When the car hits the ditch, everyone backs up. This fool doesnt react until the car is nearly on top of him. There is moment where the camera loses sight of the action, likely due to the camera man taking evasive action himself. When the camera picks up the car and the guy again, the guy looks like he's either fallen over, or is trying to pick something up off the ground (his camera maybe?). He looks like a bumbling fool before he gets hit. And the whole time, the windshield is covered in steam.

My guess is this was a guy trying to take either a photo or video. He wanted to get up close to the exit of the corner to capture some nice oversteer action, maybe a tire drop into the ditch; he just got a lot more than he was expecting  Again, no one else was dumb enough to be standing where he was. I'm also guessing that there's a very good chance he'd had a couple of drinks, hence the stumbling and bumbling.

Honestly I don't fault the driver here at all. Dumb rally fan is dumb. Classic idiot ruining it for everyone else.

Edit: pause the video at 10 seconds, just before impact...what do you see. I see windshield completely blocked, and guy bending over to pick something up off the ground when the car is less than 5 feet away.

It more so looks like he ran at first and stopped to pick up his camera that he left on the ground.
