That's a thing? Why don't the just rally the thawing/slushy/muddy roads? Or would it cause too much damage to the roads?

Rally Sweden has been sliced from 21 to 12 stages due to warm weather.

I've also read that tyres must be decided and ordered 4 weeks before the event. Of course these have to be suitable for the road conditions and street legal.

Pssshhh, haven't the WRC teams watched the Top Gear hovercraft episode??? Ya that's a little more extreme melting than I was picturing.

That would make sense, and would understandably cause issues if the melting is that severe. El Niño is a 🤬 Does El Niño even effect Europe?

If by "Europe" you mean "Australia and the western coast of South America", yes.
Huh? El Niño effects more than Australia and the western coast of South America. I live in BC Canada, and we're having an El Niño winter, which for us is increased precipitation along with a slight increase in temperature.

If I had to make a guess as to whether or not El Niño effects Europe or not, I would guess no, since I think it's a Pacific thing...but what I'm no weather expert. I more said it as a bit of a joke.

Interesting rally start. Ogier with front damage and reportedly caught by a police officer speeding between stages. A lot. Neuville tried out a 2WD Hyundai and Latvala decided to do half the day with hefty damage. Craig Breen got a top 6 one stage, Kris Meeke found a rock in the middle of a road in deja vu. And only one stage sunday with SS20 cancelled.

I may have chose the wrong year to start my first year actually following the WRC, and especially Rally Sweden, but even still, my interest is high, and I love how there are extra elements to the whole event aside from the actual stages. I enjoy how crucial info such as ice puddles cannot be transmitted to the drivers and so we saw 2-3 of them go off in the trees in the same spot!

Normally the gravel crew would pick up on things like that, but I suspect that the puddles have a snap freeze between the recee crew and the competitors passing through.

Am I the only one with problem with wrc.com? It won´t display current times, it is stuck on stage 5 in overall and when I press any higher stage 2 gets selected. So frustrating.

It's probably a problem with the timing in Sweden. It happens at least once a year, but it's usually Monte Carlo that's the problem.

Paddon getting really close to Ogier now, no doubt helped by Ogier starting first but impressive none the less.

Yeah same here. Apparently it's to do with the cancellation of the stages causing chaos with the system on wrc.com. It's fine on WRC+ though.

Inside whispers... Robert Kubica testing a Toyota GT86 for Toyota...

It's been on the cards for a while - but with the R5 Abarth being cancelled, it's a small consolation.

Latvala only won because of his low start position this rally was boring to watch and now we have to wait 2 months for Argentina. I do not like how the calendar looks today, it makes no sense have all the tarmac rounds in the late season.

If I could make my own calendar for next year it would like look this:

  1. 19-22 January Monte Carlo
  2. 9-12 February Sweden
  3. 2-5 March Mexico
  4. 23-26 March Argentina
  5. 13-16 April France
  6. 4-7 May Spain
  7. 25-28 May Portugal
  8. 15-18 June Italy
  9. 6-9 July Poland
  10. 27-30 July Finland
  11. 17-20 August Germany
  12. 21-24 September China
  13. 19-22 October Great Britain
  14. 16-19 November Australia

Or here´s another one where I removed Poland for Japan and switched Australia for New Zealand

  1. 19-22 January Monte Carlo
  2. 9-12 February Sweden
  3. 2-5 March Mexico
  4. 6-9 April Argentina
  5. 27-30 April France
  6. 18-21 May Spain
  7. 15-18 June Portugal
  8. 13-16 July Italy
  9. 3-6 August Finland
  10. 24-27 August Germany
  11. 14-17 September China
  12. 5-8 October Japan
  13. 26-29 October New Zealand
  14. 16-19 November Great Britain
