Block was a joke,
Block may never be likely to score anything above a minor points finish he is exactly what WRC needs. He is spectacular and is popular enough to draw a crowd. If the showman gets the people's attention and encourages them to tune in to ITV4 to watch the highlights it will only be a matter of time before these casual fans start to learn the other names and become bigger fans.

On the subject of spectacular drivers WRC needs Alexey Lukyanuk in a WRC car.

Why were Solberg, and also Gigi Galli and Markko Martin so popular? Spectacular drivers.

After watching this video...we need more RGT cars.

Linked that in my post on last page, gorgeous ;)

Well, he apparently doesn't need the WRC. I don't know the circumstances behind his departure, but he has gradually been phasing himself out of the championship. He hasn't announced any plans to compete in 2015.

He didn't do any damage to the sport, unlike Conrad Rautenbach (whose father is one of Robert Mugabe's cronies), and nor was his seat a condition of financial support for a team, like Khaled al Qassimi. But he was very much a journeyman driver, and I don't think that he was a viable long-term competitor. That showmanship you speak of probably hurt his stage times, which I don't think he realised until he was competing.

Got to admit his hairpin routine at Catalunya was genuinely hilarious

I think it would mainly come down to the fact he couldn't master the most crucial thing, the Pace notes.

RX has to the point where it's sucking those spectacular guys away from WRC. Also, it'd be interesting to see a Supercar try stage rallying, since they're the kind of Group B-esque cars a lot of fans want to see back.

Yeah, but I'm sure you know why it will never happen.

Pretty excited for Monte now, was originally intending to be heading there myself but had to cancel all my plans (£120+ of cancellation fees hurt badly!). Going to be keeping a very close eye on it all - could potentially be a very good season. Particularly if the new updates upset the apple cart...

Me and a couple of motorsport professionals last year launched a rally site that might be of interest to you all with some pretty comprehensive guides. I don't want to sit here plugging it too much but it might be worth a look for you all at some point. :)

Here's the link for those who are interested: ShakedownMag

EDIT: BTW, on the note of WRC coverage and the mention of drones on the previous page it'll never happen.

If memory serves me correctly drones were banned from WRC when Volkswagen started using them more for promotional purposes. And no, the drones can't keep up. The helicopters do provide other roles rather than just showing aerial footage too. They're fairly vital in picking up footage from the ground crews within the stage and transporting everything to the WRC TV HQ's on each rally. We wouldn't be able to have the 30 minute daily highlights packages we get at the moment without them.

More Monte liveries!

Henning Solberg:

I have also seen renders of Yuriy Protasov's DS3, but I'mnot going to post any, because it's horrendous.

Rumours out of Germany suggest that Henning Solberg could do a full WRC season with a reborn Adapta team. Apparently he is set for two or three rallies, but could have a full programme (or possibly arrange it for Pontus Tiedman, his stepson).

And no, the drones can't keep up.
A lot of stages have an 'arena' area, oftentimes purpose-built, that allows spectators to view the cars for as long as possible. All you would have to do is stick a drone in a static position with a relatively wide-angle lens, and it would be hard to pick the cars up.

I don't see drones as being a replacement for helicopters, but rather an alternative way of getting footage of cars from an exterior position.

Don't think about a pink elephant, don't think about a pink elephant, don't think about a pink elephant ...

Honestly after reading that I thought, "how bad can it be?" But man, you weren't kidding at all. Jeez that's awful.
Protasov has run some artsy liveries in the past, all to varying degrees of horrible, but nothing like this. We can only hope that the net effect is like the later Ken Block liveries (after the dripping paint design) and that the lurid detail is lost as the car flashes past.

Ouch, just noticed the badge.

The badge isn't the problem. Protasov is Ukrainian, so the colouring is understandable. The real problem is the kaleidoscope of mucus green and baby poop brown on the body.

I think something may be up with your monitor, all I'm seeing is green, black and white. Having said that, they are in a formation rather violent on the retina.

Oh, I can see the black and white. It's the green and brown that make me want to throw up over it, but that would just blend in.

There's lighter bits and there are darker bits. The area around the wing mirror and the front wheel arch is particularly dull.

It doesn't get better from the other angles.

Lorenzo Bertelli's Fiesta will survive the upgrade from RRC to WRC without losing any of it's style:

That roof is metallic gold with the rest of the car matte, really looks good.

Edit: I'm pretty sure that Solberg livery is just a fan made render from the end of last year.

The reactions on the WRC Facebook page have been hilarious
Honestly, quite a few of them need to lighten up. Some of them are gold though - "Do they have a sister team called F-Buddy?"
