X1 Prototype- WOW!

Not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but check out the reflection of the headlights on the road surface. See how close it is to the splitter? Does that seem odd to anyone else? The reflection is actually behind the headlight..

Your right, it seems to go behind it, rather in front of it.

Well it only took 800 posts but I've finally posted something no one else has in the GT5 section.

...The reflection is actually behind the headlight..

💡
The reason for this is that the X1 car can travel at relativistic speeds. The light you can see on the road is actually light which was emitted from the car 10^-9 seconds ago (0.000000001s).

It takes light about that long (10^-9 s) to travel the 30cm from the headlight to the road. During that time, the X1 has moved forward a good 10cm, and so it appears that the car is above the light emitted by its headlights.

If you look closely, you'll notice that other effects of special relativity can be seen here too. To an observer (us looking at the car/photo of the car), the length of the car should have shortened according to the Lorentz-Fitzgerald Contraction of: L(o) = sqrt(1 - (v^2)/(c^2) )
You will notice that the car in this picture is approximately 18.5% shorter from our frame of reference.

Although it is difficult to notice from the picture, the cars mass has increased by the same proportion, and the car's driver appears to be moving in slow motion.

As it turns out, Polyphony Digital actually had to include Special Relativity in the physics engine for this game due to the speeds that this car is capable of.

Challenge: Based on my figures - how fast must the car be moving?

Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light chief.

nope there are faster things i don't know what that were called.

Best part is that only in our univarse (big bang theory) there are rules llike light speed is faster than sound speed etc. If there was somewhere second bigbang that rules could be completly diffrent.

And still there is strings teory ....

On subject now:

Lights aren't dynamic on surface of road and probably all lights are the same for ground...

edit:

"nope there are faster things i don't know what that were called."

OHH i remember now ! It's Chuck Norris ;)

You think that's air you're breathing now?

Ignorance is bliss.

Well spotted, I think I've seen problems like that on other cars too.
I think they're using a texture based effect rather than a full spotlight model, they might be able to just shift it forwards a bit.

I dont think that pic is altogether real....no other vids or pics of the cars light have had lens flare.

On the X1 itself..... Well its a shame cars like the 1,2,3 winning R15 plus more than likely won't be in the game but fantasy crap like this will!!!

How can any of its times be taken seriously, its not like the drivers have a fear of death when driving it around. I dont believe any driver could deal with the G's it would be pulling going round bends like we've been shown. Seb isn't gonna say anything bad about it....He contracted not to!!!!
Its complete tosh!!!
Maybe Adrian Newey should make sure his real cars can last before helping the PD team out....God knows they just the suck time outta things!

The latest EVO magazine contains an article with about the X1, including pictures of a REAL life one built by Red Bull themselves.
Summary of info contained (that's "new" i hope :indiff: )
Maximum speed of "over 280mph"
The front wing produces 366.7kg and 347.7kg of downforce front/rear respectively, on top of 1000kg of downforce from the fan.
Up to 8G of lateral g's could be exerted.

When asked whether an X1 could be driven by a human ;
"It would be difficult to create an environment whereby the drive could survive those sort of G forces for a race distance rather than a single lap, but a combination of driver training and restraints-particularly for the head and neck-mean it would be possible"

To confirm, it is just a model (1:1).

One big bang, lots of universes all with seperate rules. I think quarks and neutrons are faster than light, also.

And I'd like to see pics of the real X1.

I guess i'll be the first to suggest and not criticize.

Lights under he front fin?

...And then we come to tyre wear. With epic downforce (hopefully), massive acceleration and 1000hp strain on the rear wheels, I'd be amazed if it can run one lap of the 'Ring without losing total grip.

Yeah the thing would just eat any conventional tires...other than that pretty much everything about this car is doable, even for not that much amount of money, lets say $200K for material but engineering would cost a hella lot more for sure.

May be X1 is a real-possible car according physics rules, but do we have such technologies and materials on Earth to construct all ultimate parts of this ultimate car right now? - suspension, tire rubber, brake discs, CVT trasmission etc.
And what about stiffness and durability of these car parts in such extreme longitudinal & lateral accelerations?
So I prefer to think that this is just a game

I think kaz said something like 'we were going over the plans and then they showed us the X1 prototype' so I thought it was preconception, but I didn't expect it to be real. thanks for the pics! 👍

It's definitely a real 1:1 scale model. I'm not sure if it has an engine as such, the article is mainly just everything else we know about the X1.

However EVO also say, "Nevertheless, the game blew us away with the detail of its graphics. Spin off at Dunsfold (the Top Gear test track) and you can actually see the texture of the grass. And, yes the crash damage is realistic, too..."

I hope they really mean the damage is realistic on the cars :dopey:
