The update is alright. The speed of the dashboard appearing and moving is a lot better than it was, but I still have issues with it. I wish they would stop rearranging the Marketplace content. It was good enough as it was. And the dashboard in a game will sometimes become stuck for around 20 seconds before it's active again. It's really annoying especially when you done it to invite someone into a match that's about to start. :ouch:

Would it kill them to add a browser feature like the PS3...?

G.T

I figure just like windose they'll never get it right and keep messing around with it.

It's pretty funny how retarded the few 360 updates are compared to the PS3's multiple ongoing awesome updates.

I thought the addition of Xvid streaming and the friends of friends list thing is pretty good...doesn't seem that 'retarded' to me. :\

Good for you, doesn't mean jack... to me. I got a tons of video players that are less of a headache and besides I could just see myself playing a movie and the thing dies.

So uh...why don't you just sell it if you don't like it? It doesn't make any sense as to why you would even keep it if you are paranoid about it failing.

So you have tons of video players that play .avi files natively? I'm sure the update would save time many people a lot of time as the streaming is much quicker than re-encoding or even burning the files to DVD.
And a web browser is pretty pointless anyway, it's not like the machine is portable in any way so why add a useless feature (which is fun for like 5 minutes) when you can just use your computer.

I got the 360 for two reasons... the games and the controller, NOT the system.

Archos 704, no encoding needed, I can do a boat load other things.

But you would complain regardless of what was in the update right? Seeing as you did complain about the update itself compared to the PS3. So if you didn't get the Xbox 360 for the system then why complain about system updates?

Erm, basically I'm saying you're a troll...since you're saying you didn't buy the 360 for the system but then complain about the system update (fall update) and its features.

Personally I think the Xvid (and whatnot) updates are great, particularly when a lot of videos I have on my computer are that format. Furthermore, I'd hope that the expanded iPod support makes it so mine decides to sync-up again, I've grown rather tired of the in-game music under most circumstances (I haven't tried it out yet...).

I imagine that a browser could show up sometime, but who knows. Generally speaking, people buy the X360 to play games and already have a computer to go on the internet... Its a neat feature, much appreciated on the Wii, but overall not that big of a deal.

My iPod video synced but now that I have a touch it doesn't... I think that's more on the Apple side since they locked it up more.

My old Mini has been having problems and I don't know why. It started after the dashboard update before this one on my old box, and it was really strange... Says I only have "Audiobooks," but all my music is listed everywhere else.

The name for the iPod comes up as "Audiobooks" (the official name is YSSMAN, who knew?), and while it lists all the music in the genres, albums and artists tabs, none of my play lists will work.

Many, many times I go on the internet between playing PS3 games rather than going to my PC. Just convenient for a quick look at the news and my emails etc.

Anyway, I'm getting an Elite as my brother is buying my 360 from me. Unfortunately the only way he can get his saves is by getting a "memory unit", right? There's a 512 MB one available? I think it's £29 here in the UK. Maybe my bro' will get it because he'll lose his saves on his Gamertag when I transfer my 20GB HDD to my 120GB. A little annoying actually as I'm not likely to ever use the "memory unit" again.

I got my Elite last week. Apart from the noise (it seems noisier though the DVD drive seems quieter) it's fine. Annoyingly I have to send off for the migration kit. Why I can't use a USB cable I don't know. Suffice to say I'm still waiting for Microsoft to send me one.

Migration kit? Not sure what it is...

My Halo 3 'Box seems to have the same noise issue as well. Its really quiet most of the time, but there are moments when its at "idle" when I'm streaming video from my computer to the TV and it seems louder than it should be...

It's a kit so you can move your saves and downloads (and other stuff) to the new, 120 GB hard drive (on Elites)

So, stuff isn't kept online in your gamertag?
Only your gamerscore, and things like a list of played games. Basically, all of the information that's available when looking at someone's profile on Xbox.com. Actual downloaded content and save files are stored only on the hard drive.

Has anyone had problems in getting their drive back from Microsoft? One of my friends at work sent in his Elite hard drive two months ago, and they apparently lost it. They keep giving him the runaround whenever he calls to ask about it. Which is even more rediclous when you consider that the drive won't be repaired.. they're just going to send him a new one. I keep telling him to threaten legal action, especially since they told him that they're not going to refund his Live payments for the three months he'll be without it. Either that, or simply drive to the service center and get the thing himself. Their service center is only a few hours drive from here.

When I had to trade-in my Gen1 system for this Halo 3 one they wouldn't let me keep my HDD without them actually having any use for a clearly busted system. Then again, thats a product of Best Buy anyway... I was not happy about that one...

Hm.. they let me keep my HDD when I swapped my first unit out. They were happy as long as the box had everything in it going back to Microsoft.

i require some assistance if anyone would be so kind. I just bought my 360 a few days ago and i have just a normal tube non-HD TV. I have my xbox configured to normal TV but my games still seem to play in widescreen? There are two horizontal black blocks on the top and bottom and i cant seem to get rid of them so its full screen. If anyone can help please do.

Go to your settings and change it to full screen not wide.

As for me... I'm at work using my 360 as a heater. :dopey:

Alright so I have a problem. My 360 was working as usual last night and it was fine. I woke up and the power was out but it was because the breaker was off so my dad could do some electrical stuff (I don't know if this makes a difference or not) Once the power came back on I played some Rock Band and stuff and it was working fine, I had two new messages and it let me listen to one but when I tried to reply it said this process could not be complete then after that it wouldn't let me listen to the message at all. Now it started kicking me off LIVE then reconnecting me a few times then it calmed down and started to work again but the messaging system still was not working. Now I try to play COD4 and it takes way longer than normal to read my harddrive and when it does I try to "Resume Game" (campaign) and it freezes, or basically does nothing and stays at the main menu. And also when I try to do multiplayer it says I must have an active connection working, but right now I obviously have a good connection since my computer is working fine online. It at one point let me start matchmaking but then told me I needed a connection again, any ideas?

Xbox Live is apparently having some problems at the moment. One possible explanation is the number of new users due to Christmas.

As for system-specific problems, I'd recommend a full power-cycle. Shut it all the way down, then unplug it for a minute or so, then bring it back up. That might help with the offline stuff, but it won't have any effect on the online problems.. that's on Microsoft's end.

I've been having lots of problems with Live myself lately, I can't access Marketplace a lot of the time and when I'm in PGR4 or FM2 I can't access the leaderboards and I can't hear people talking on FM2 either. Then there's the random signing out of Live... I'm glad it's not just me having problems!

However I have just bought a brand new Philips 32" HD LCD TV so I'm enjoying playing all of my games in single player anyway. Halo 3 looks absolutely astonishing on it! :D
