I'm rather glad MS is milking the Halo cow for all its worth, if people are that stupid to buy Halo marketed things then why not just get them for every cent they can? Honestly I do not see why people go so nuts over the game, it's just another FPS with no real stand out features in my opinion. Will I buy Halo 3? Eventually, when it's on the used rack at Gamestop or even just rent a copy of it. I see no reason wasting $60+ on it.
Like I had stated before, Microsoft hasn't completely milked the Halo cow... If anything, far from the total sell-outs that have been The Simpsons and Star Wars brands (not to mention EVERY Pixar movie...). If anything Microsoft hasn't marketed enough.
Then again, you remember that they're probably not too worried about selling a S-load of games on opening day, not to mention whats left for that week. Sure, people complain about the Mountain Dew, but IMO, the stuff is great, and I buy it anyway. People complain about the Doritos, but you can only get them a 7-11, so why complain? Microsoft teamed up with Pontiac to make some decked-out G6 GXPs, but you can only win them through Best Buy... So why are we complaining again?
Most, if not all of the promotion for Halo 3 seems to have been on the internet thus far. There have been few, if anything, TV advertisements. There is one moderately generic ad that runs in some of the magazines I receive. The advertisements they run in Comic Books are already pandering to a crowd that will likely get the game anyway...
So please, I'd love to see how Microsoft has sold the franchise out. I don't see kids running around with Halo 3 lunchboxes, Master Chief showing up in Danimals commercials, Marty O'Donnel doing oddly-placed promotional tours on CNN, or any of that other outrageous crap we've seen with every movie and marginally large videogame in the past...
Like it or not, Halo 3 is a franchise that has a lot of push, and thusly has a great but of cultural worth. They're going to push it a bit, but thus far, it hasn't been any worse than how it was with Halo 2...

And yes, that was a rant, but I just don't identify the problem
Either way; If you guys don't like the game, don't buy it. Half-Life Orange Box is right around the corner, including Team Fortress 2, so I'm sure thats giving you enough of a tent to keep you happy anyway...
(Either way, I'll be getting both)
