Eh, it's getting worse for me. Now it's to the point where it won't let me on live and asks me to test my connection and everytime it passes the test, yet says cannot connect to XBOX LIVE. :indiff:

I just bought NFS Pro Street and I'm appaled by how bad it is. The drag racing is pretty cool but the grip cars don't handle like any car in the world and the drifting...AGH. Who the hell came up with that physics engine?! It should not be that difficult to drift an M3 through narrow corners without the entire car just understeering into the wall. No matter how I tune it it just won't oversteer quickly enough to link the corners together!

Then there's the whole lack of money thing which means it is VERY difficult to keep up with the competition if you damage your car in any way. Even if they ram you off the road and total your car (which has happened to me a fair few times) you get to foot the Totaled Marker and the $22,000 repair bill. Who thought that was a good idea?

I'm off to play PGR4...

Good call on PGR4, that games incredible. I have a question though, is there any way to get on xbox live with a gold account that doesnt require input of a credit card number into the xbox? Do i need a silver account before i get gold?

In case you didn't know, Microsoft and RARE was preparing a version of Goldeneye 007 for the XBL download service, but that has now stalled out. Disagreements between Nintendo and Microsoft currently won't allow it to happen.

Ruh-Roh.

We as angry consumers need to get out there and demand it! I know we all want to re-live the '90s while fraging our friends on XBL!

Am I able to run 1080p through the component cables or does it have to be HDMI? When I tried to switch over to 1080 it wouldn't let me but it would let me stay at 720. Any thoughts?

You should be able to run 1080p with the component cables, if my understanding of the X360 is correct. I'm not sure why it wouldn't let you...

I point you to this story on Team XBOX...

It may be your TV, not the 360, but I'm not sure.

...I'm sure the Sony hardware is having an arguement over who is better, that may be the problem...

You can do 1080p on component, provided your TV can do 1080p over component. My friend's Vizio 47" LCD for example accepts 1080p over component and that's what my friend uses.

Hmmm it still won't let me switch over for some reason, this is a bit annoying.

hate to interrupt such an interesting discussion but does anybody have an answer to my question about xbox live?

You're going to need a credit card, no matter what, for Gold. You need it for the payment of the points/credits, and should your free trial expire (I assume thats why you're trying it?), Microsoft wants to be able to bill you immediately.

I've never given them my credit card details, I just buy membership cards from the game shops down the road. I'm not sure if the same applies in Canada but you should be able to get them online.👍

I have to say too that now I've played NFS: ProStreet a bit more I'm sort of enjoying it. The high speed levels can get really intense especially if the AI cars have a massive accident. There have been a few times where I've seen an AI car fly past me only to lose control and literally take off having hit a bump, flipping their car over the top of mine as I drive underneath at 200mph. I thought the only game that happened in was Burnout!

Speaking of which, anyone else as excited as I am about Burnout Paradise?

Go to your local game store and buy a Xbox Live 12+1 month card. No credit card required. Enter the card # either on your Xbox, or on Xbox.ca.

Bah humbug. Turned on my Xbox yesterday evening and got a flashing red light and an error message on the screen with error code E74.

A quick google search reveals it's commonly caused by a faulty video cable, so hopefully it's not totally screwed and I just have to buy a new cable. It's just out of warranty as well.

KM.

Give Microsoft a call, you can probably convince them to send you a new one free of charge.

I've heard that taking the cords out and re-attaching them can get the job done on occasion, but yeah, Microsoft should be able to send you a new one. Otherwise, I don't think the extra cables are that expensive at the store (worse-to-worse, of course)...

Hey guys, not really sure where else to ask this, but seeing as this is general discussion, it should be right:

My 360 red-lighted a few weeks ago and instead of sending it away to Microsoft, we decided to take it right back to EB for a replacement (it was under warranty). They didn't have any in stock but i was put on the pre-order list for the next batch.

3 weeks later and we haven't gotten a call from them & they are selling them over the counter, so we asked about the replacement and were told that they were no longer dealing with faulty ones, leaving me with a broken xbox and them not touching it.

Now, after all of this fuss with EB, i wasn't just going to 'let them win' so to speak, and hand it in to Microsoft. Seeing as I have a written (or typed, if you wish to be more specific) agreement with them about a replacement console, are they still obliged to give me the replacement? The machine is still under an extended warranty with EB, so i should be able to get a refund or exchange for it, right?

Yes EB should take it back and give you a new one or at the very least the same amount of money you paid for it in store credit. Best Buy had no issue with mine when I took it back, Microsoft even told me to.

After over 2 months of my Xbox sitting dead beside my TV, I eventually gave Microsoft a call because I realised that GTA4 is coming out soon and I want it repaired by then!

Thankfully, they've extended the warrant so they're repairing it for free. UPS collected it today.

I've been blessed with a 360 lately that loves to freeze... I have the power pack up in the air and a small room fan blowing on the 360 from the front. I don't know what else to do. Anyone got any tips? This [censored] **** is getting old FAST.

Where you located?

If in the UK, call them up, tell them it has RRoD (covered by 3 year warranty) even if it doesn't and they will fix/swap it for you!!

I know endless people that have done this and got theirs sorted even tho it was not RRoD!

Or you can purposely give it RRoD, but I dont think discussion on how to do that is allowed on these forums!

I don't know if I want to go that route yet... I've heard of people getting there's back in even worse condition with different problems. At least this one is "semi" predictable.

If you get a worse one back then you kick up a fuss, blag a free controller, or what-not and get them to pick up the worse one and replace that too!

Your bound to get a good one after no more than 2 or 3 tries!

Talking about "issues" my Elite I bought in November now no longer recognises ANY disc I put into it. Last night it was fine playing GTAIV. This morning nothing. Microsoft obviously have'nt got a clue. Yes I know these things happen but this is a £300 Xbox bought after the debacle with the RRoD etc. They should have fixed these kind of issues. Obviously they're simply incompetent.
I'll get it replaced but I'm not getting the next Microsoft console.

Sounds like one of 2 things, either the laser has fried, which makes perfect sense after a GTA IV session, because that game requires constant disk access putting A LOT of stress on the (quite cheap and unreliable) laser used in the 360.

OR

The something has gone wrong with the drive controller board! This is quite rare, but it does happen and I have a Premium 360 that has this problem, tried a new laser and it didn't sort it, then tried a drive from another 360 I have and it worked a charm!!

Im getting a spare drive controller board from a guy I know on another forum when I get back home from uni on the 21st.

I mainly use my PS3 now, all I use my 360 for it to play games I cant get on PS3 (like GoW) or to try out new games on it, and if I like them I'll go buy them for PS3, if it's crap I throw the £1 disk in the bin!

I'll admit I was rather miffed when I posted earlier. Funny thing is my 360 Premium which I got in Jan 06 still works very well and that has been used far, far more than my Elite. I was playing Oblivion on it for two weeks solid, easily putting in around 100 hours!
It may be that the drive or laser or whatever failed after a long session of GTAIV but it should've lasted. Perhaps it was because my Elite was stnding up? Maybe the 360 is more likely to fail if it is vertical than horizontal?

From history when it was first launched I think it was the issue of having it standing up? I've always had mine vertical though. You might want to pay attention to what you do with the power brick because that gets hot too. It maybe affecting the system too. Sadly though none of these problems seem to be specific to more than one 360, well except for RROD of course. I guess M$ is really good at that...
