You are Given $55,000....

I'd go for a (manual) BMW 320d, new with as high a spec as I can.

180bhp, RWD, lots of MPG, low tax, relaxed but fun when you want it to be, well made, comfortable and always useable. Is there a more complete car for the money?

Exactly the same choice here. The 320d is no doubt a very, very good car. With fuel prices are getting higher and higher as the day goes by, having a diesel isn't a bad idea at all. It's economical, clean and a lot of torque to pull you off a stand still. The 3-Series itself isn't too big neither too small so it fits nicely and surely drives very well with its balanced chassis.

In Malaysia, the road tax for diesel car is a tad more expensive than cars on petrol but the price of diesel is far cheaper than petrol here. That's why I think owning a diesel car now is a good and smart choice. The rest of the cash left? I'd get a set of good looking wheels and some BMW Performance kits to the car (because I've seen one, and it looked seriously awesome!).

If I wasnt living in Michigan dealing with winter, I would put that money toward a 2002 Ram Air Trans am fully modified, a C6 Corvette or Lotus Exige.

But since I live in Michigan I would probably put the money toward a modified EVO or WRX STI. Or if I could afford it..... An Audi R8 or something else AWD so I could drive it all year.

With 55k you could get an M-Sport spec 320d, which has an M-style bodykit included. That and some alloys, remove the model designation, and some (idiots) might think you have an M3...

To answer the op...

:p

A nice truck for free while I keep my current daily? Yes please.

Find a 40k late 80s Porsche 930, leave 10k aside for maintenance/restoration and spend the other 5k on either track days or light mods

I know for sure I wouldn't buy half an original AAR Cuda with 55k, I'd just like to find a normal Barracuda I could turn into a fun track-style muscle car with AAR-esque, trans am-styling cues. It would be rough, not near perfect, but a fun drive.

Heck, many pony cars would work, actually. A 71 Camaro, a 70 Javelin, a 71 Maverick, stuff like dat, any of them with trans am looks and feel.

I'd go for a cheap Peugeout 106 Rallye and put some tasteful mods to it (new alloys, uprated interior, de badged, lowered, cams, satchshift, 4-2-1 manifold, pugsport exhaust, smoked mr's and a decent sound system)

That should be around £20k in total :) The money left over would be for insurance xD

Eh.

How much more force do you need? It's already turbocharged.

Well, Volvo's B234F is very robust motor for a 4-banger, and there have been over 1000bhp dyno results from these motors.. So, you can choose between 155bhp (stock NA) and 1000bhp ( with Mother of All Turbochargers)

But with a 1000hp you need 500kg of extra whelding to keep the car together.

'93 Mustang Cobra, engine swap for a 351W and build the **** out of it. Then pimp the car out with light red and white racing stripes, side skirts, low bumpers, side exhaust, chrome star wheels, chrome trim and skirt LED's!

The rest of the money will go towards fuel, insurance, etc.

Yeah I had a thought of that but just the other day I spotted the 320d BMW Performance Edition and I melted to the carpet in my car

Some pictures taken (not from me) at Quill BMW Malaysia.

In Alpine White, that'd be sooo awesome!

With better rear fenders that wagon would be so awesome. The beamers are sweet too, Id certainly consider the 335 over the 135.

If I were given $55,000, I would go for the finest in 1970's style and grace: '77 Eldorado Biarritz

Of course, I'd have to upgrade the sound system to something that's not an 8-track. And I'd probably swap out the stock engine for something lighter, more powerful, and more efficient... but it'd make a rockin' cruiser! :sly:👍

There's so many choices that I'd want to have...I'll start with the used market first.

- NM35 Stagea (~$15-20k), R35 GT-R bodykit conversion and some light mods to the VQ25DET.

- A second-gen Skyline 350GT/Infinti G35 (the version with the more rounded figure and a 6-speed manual; $20k+), again light mods to the VQ35DE and a bit of stance work.

- Teardrop Impreza WRX STi with a trip to S&J Automotive, lower coilovers and some fresh-and-sticky rubber on 19s.

- E39 BMW M5 for ~$35-40k, keep the rest for small mods and/or keeping it going.

- FG Ford Performance Vehicles F6.

New

- Golf GTI MkVI

- Ford Performance Vehicles GS

- Mazda RX-8 GT

Oh man... Fifty Five Grand?
Definitely either:
a Preowned Impreza GD, with the rest of the money dumped on swapping the old for new parts and gasoline.

or a New Impreza WRX STI with the rest of he money dumped on gasoline.

or a Mini Cooper with pretty accessories, with a chunk of money dumped on personalizing its exterior appearance, and the rest on gas.

Hate to troll, but what an original thread idea...

Previous generation M3 probably.

👍👍👍👍
That's pretty much what I'd start looking for too.
That or a 993 Turbo.

The problem would be finding a good one at that price. 993TTs at least here and sites ive looked for go for 70k+ for the pretty good ones. Those cars have kept their value astonishingly well when you consider the price of an equivalent 996 to be cheaper

I AGREE! Michigan weather sucks for any cool car. I hate it here. our roads suck, our governor sucks and the weather changed every day

Might be a bit tight for budget, but this:
