I am a proud owner of an X1800XL, works wonders

Going to pick up an x800 GTO next week. :) Bloody have to get the AGP version because I really can't be bothered spending $200 on a decent PCI-E motherboard.
It should tide me over until Vista and DX10, then I can really spend my money. :D

7800GTX 256mb for me.

While not the best anymore, is certinaly enough for all the games i want to play.

Very nice card

This is technology for ya- you buy a $550USD graphics card thinking "Hey, this will be top of the line for a while!" Then nVidia, 2 months later, release the G71 core, and ATI the R580 with the 7900GTX and X1900XTX, respectively.

Same with me except I have two of them.

SLI is the future; it's time to board the gravy train people.

Is there a big loss of quality using the DVI to VGA adapter cable that comes with a high end vid card? I have an 18" GEM flat panel monitor but it only has VGA. :grumpy:

well, when my crt monitor suddenly died. and was forced to switch to a vga lcd monitor... there was a pretty noticable drop in visual quality. I asked around on this hardware forum why everything looked so aliased and jaggy and they said it was because i was using a VGA only LCD monitor... so i guess the answer would be that yes, you are losing visual quality by using a vga only monitor.

i really reccomend anyone here that likes First Person Shooters or Rambo and has a decent graphics card to buy farcry. its only 20 dollars or less in stores now and the game is amazing. i havent played a game that moved me like this in a years. i actually stop once in a while and look around just taking in the beauty. :D. i just got to the part in the game where i ran into guys with riot shields and the guys with HAZMAT suits on. I cant get over how good the graphics are.

Welp people in a shocking move I've just ordered an eVGA Nvidia 7800GT 256mb. Based on Tom's Hardware I should be more than set for the wrath F.E.A.R. will bring to my system. I hope the PS and 3D rendering aspect of this card doesn't suffer too much from bad quality. :nervous:

One minor issue is my stupid beige GEM 18" monitor which is VGA so if it's too crappy I'll be swaping it with my dad's black Sharp 17" which has DVI ready. :D

I might try it... It seems like from my research that FarCry is probably second to F.E.A.R. in really putting systems to the test.

Ok turns out it's not a minor issue and I'm screwed... His Monitor isn't DVI ready which I thought in the first place. :grumpy:

All that money wasted only to have to spend more.

i think i'm gonna go to radioshack tomorrow myself ant get a dvi cable. i wanna see how much the visual quality improves.

1/2 a week ago i just got my new system in the mail..

ASUS mobo gig of ram
7800GTX
4000+ cpu

and from best buy i picked up a 19" CRT for 100 bucks off the display....

omg i love this thing....turn the fans all the way up and it's as loud as a airplane..turn it down all the way and it's as quiet as my buddies watercooled unit.

runnin FEAR on high everything the GPU never goes above 35.2C and i still get great framerate with no skipping..

funny thing is DOW on high settings taxtes the GPU much more than FEAR does...bringing the temp to about 38.1C

good good good times...already in the habit of whiping the thing down daily and dusting it every 2 days..(has 2 dogs who shed like crazy, and the unit is about 7 inches off the floor in a desk cradle.

Right now..no net.(at a buddies)...but someone gimmie a link to a download site...i'll DL it...and burn it..then run it at home....BTW I got some pics of it i snapped from my cell phone....hold on let me get them on imageshack

i've since got a new desk for it..so yeah..it looks alot better situated in a matching desk with matching chair etc etc etc

I bought a new one today:

Asus Extreme N7800GT TD PCI-E 256MB Ddr3

I bet this will be a HUGE leap forward compared to my previous card
(ATI radeonX300:dunce: )
