Just raced the Skippy in the 1:45 GMT race and ended up in the top split. I started 4th on the grid. I had a little hiccough in the first lap and let 3 or 4 cars by. After that I stayed consistent doing high 59.xx to 1:01 laps. A few other people had offs in front of me and I got up to 3rd. One of the earlier front runners came out of the pits on lap 15 4.5 secs behind me. I started pushing a little harder then and almost held him off. He was about 1 sec a lap faster than me despite my best efforts. He passed me in the last lap to get 3rd. I finished 4th and ended up with 81 champ points. That's my highest single race total this season. I also got about 50 iRating and 0.16 SR. Very satisfied with this. I think I'll start practicing on Suzuka now as I'm only familiar with the GT5 version of It and I doubt that's going to help me much

good race man. I have almost a flawless victory on Suzuka in the Skip with the one loss being a disconnect. Otherwise 3 of 3! But I won't race, off the skip now and its not the Grand Prix layout, its the west version?

I had a nice race in suzuka last night, the competition is much more difficult than the skip I am use to. But the car is much more fun. I feel you can push it more and have confidence.

What series are you in this season?

Did my NW league race (Late Model and mustang at Laguna Seca) tonight.

3 late models, 1 Mustang, everyone left but one guy and me so I finished 2nd 2 laps down. It was a terrible race for me, if I had at least practiced this week I probably could have stayed on the lead lap. It was the first time I had used the service in 2 weeks and I threw together my "ok" limerock setup. It was so tight that I spun twice  I had to take out 1% of bias in the middle of the race just to get it to turn, and the only way to turn was to slam on the brake and turn it sideways, then mash the gas. I was only 3-5 seconds behind the leaders

Oops. I mean mid ohio.

Driving the SM. much better than the skip! But SOF is much higher. Also I have less time than usual so I will race here and there when possible. My first season so not aiming high at all. Just want to finish a race to be honest!

Oh dear.....

I raced SRF @ Laguna today. I did some qualifying laps where I pushed hard and tried to find the limit of the car. Before, I have always driven very defensive. The result was a new personal lap record and a very good feeling for car and track.

In the next race I had pole position (first time ever) and was the car with #1 on it.

I won the start and managed to create a small gap. After first lap I lead by 2 seconds. On e lap later it was 2.7, then the 2nd spun and I lead by ~5 seconds. I managed to keep this gap constant until lap 5. I made a mistake in the (very easy) lefthander before going uphill towards corkscrew. I hit the inner rumble strip, lost the car and smashed into the wall. Immediately I pressed the "tow"-button and had to wait 1:40 in the pits. I re-entered the track ~25 seconds behind the 9th (10 cars in this race). 3 guys did not finish and after 10 constant (and free of big mistakes) laps I finished 7th right behind the pack in front of me. So I almost closed the 25 seconds gap in front of me. My average laptime was equal to the winner.

What a disappointment! So far this was my biggest chance ever to win a race in iRacing.

:-(

I think your mistake was thinking the left hander before the uphill is an easy corner. That corner is one of the toughest to get right.

Ran the SRF at Laguna, started 9th and a few laps in I'm up to 6th, 5th place is a few seconds ahead. So I'm a bit off pace, but holding my own and some idiot attempts to over take me on the inside of corner 6, we both spin, I get some suspension damage making an already unstable car even more unstable and end up in 12th.. I was running such a nice clean race to...

First race this week with trucks at Atlanta, which I've only run in hosted sessions.

I started like 4 and was driving hard on lap 3 til I lost it coming off 2. Everyone missed me but caution was out, and thought I'd be ok. I was catching back up so I could pit, and the guy in front of me was going so slow and I passed him but he passed me back as I pitted. Black flag comes out and there went my race since I had to under green which I forgot to uncheck tires/fuel. I ended up in 9th, 1 lap down catching the field after half a lap down.

The thing I find interesting is Michigan and Atlanta seem to drive very similar with both grooves and throttle.

Had an itch to race today, did the Nvidia cup. Very nice result from me, i started 9th because i didnt qualify then avoided 2 early wrecks to climb to 3rd. I was content on holding my spot since 4th was 5 seconds behind and i was losing ground on the leaders slightly, but the 2nd place car spun coming out of the final turn and i was able to hold 2nd the rest of the race. I ran a lot of laps in the 59 range which ive never been able to do until now, i guess after using the SRF it made me better with the mx5.

The key to Lime Rock is turning only as much as you need to and to brake a little early, get the car turned, and back on throttle as soon as you can. Gotta keep up that momentum.

I had my first Star Mazda win last night...Suzuka too, fully stoked !!
Started in 4th, 1st and 2nd tangled coming out of Degner curves, that allowed me and 3rd place through. 1st place then messed up the hairpin and I got along side him, unfortunately he then got sideways and hit me and bent my steering :ouch:, that put me back into 3rd. Took a few laps to figure out how fast I could go with bent steering, luckily I could still go pretty quick so pushed to catch the front two, I was catching 2nd and 2nd was catching 1st, the pressure was on . First 1st cracked at the final chicane to let me and 2nd through, a couple of laps later at Dunlop curve 1st place went a little wide so I took my chance and pulled along side, forced him to pull in behind before getting to Degner curves, managed to hold on for last few laps to bring home my first Star Mazda win :)
Fully stoked, Suzuka was home to my first Skip Barber win too.

^ Thats awesome dude!

Mixed bag for me today, ran a race in the inRacing New Challenge in the Solstice, it was a really small field with only 3 other cars (2 Miatas and a Solstice) and I ended up winning, and taking pole as well, unfortunately it didn't have enough cars in it to be considered an official race, so my pole and win didn't count..

I then did the Grand Touring Cup, also in the Solstice. I started out back (didn't qualify) and worked my way up to 3rd in class, and was having a great race when I was told I only had 5 laps of fuel left with 19 minutes to go.. silly me.. So I was forced to come in and for whatever reason my pit stop took 1:24, despite having no damage.. Oh well :p

Cheers guys
Also how do you guys get the links to your results pages ? I would like to link to mine, not that it's really special but would've still liked to link it up like the rest of you do.

Unofficial races suck :grumpy:
Always check your fuel before hitting the 'grid' button.

On only my 3rd race ever (today) I was in my MX5 Cup car at Lime Rock (Nvidia Cup), Started on Pole in a race of 10, of course didn't hold for very long. But I did manage to hold 3rd place for a while, then I overcooked it into the uphill when I started to catch up to 2nd place (the ol red mist got me) and I put it into the wall. The rest of the race included a couple trips to the pits for repairs and me finishing like 10 laps down.

Looks like I have some work to do!

Lol! Good stuff Tommy! Just keep going at it and keep practicing! Remember that every incident you get affects your license level and your progress trugh it.

Been there! I would just lift slightly when you crest the hill to keep it straight, unless you've got the perfect angle going up the hill the car is going to walk on you. I still lift most of the time and manage to run competitive laps, its better to keep it on the track especially in rookie. Place doesnt matter, just be safe.

I had a miserable race on Sunday in the SRF series. I put in a fair amount of practice and was gridded 2nd in the lower split. Looking at the qualifying times I felt confident of a 2nd place finish.

Had a bad start and third got past me, but I got back into 2nd quickly. From there I stuck on 1st places tail for the next 8 to 10 laps setting a personal best on the track even (WG cup). I felt great and I sat back waiting for 1st to make a mistake since I couldn't do it on lap times alone. With the draft I was hanging in there but no chance to over take.

On the 8th or 10th lap whatever it was, we started to come up on lapped traffic. I felt fine but I slid the car through the second to last corner. If you drive the srf you know that is very dangerous - but I held it.

That slide completely broke my confidence. I went from solidly confident to sloppy and shaky and spun on T1 a lap or two later. Recovered still in 2nd since 3rd was 24 secs back. Then brilliantly on the next lap I flipped the car on T1!

Got out of the pits on the last lap of the race in 6th.

I have made plenty of mistakes in races but I have never lost my nerve like that before.

Thanks, yeah I was pissed as of course I want to get above 3.0 to get my D license, and I definitely set myself back in this race in terms of that progress. Luckily I have a couple more weeks to improve.

Actually the only thing that seems to work for me is to stand on it and hold the wheel straight, if I lift up there I lose it completely. It works that way in real life, when I ran Skip Barber we would always stand on it going up the hill, one guy lifted and lost it into the tires. He was fine but he actually managed to bend the chassis in half.

I agree though about keeping it on the track as a rookie, I've been basically letting passes happen to avoid contact for now, once I get past this rookie stage then I'll probably get more aggressive. My times still aren't super competitive yet, my best lap is only 1:01.267 but I'm usually averaging in the 1:03-1:04 range.

With Lime Rock I adapted my line for that crest-corner ("The Uphill") so that I'm turning in quite early and can straighten up the car and steering before the crest.
It means I brake slightly earlier and take an unorthodox line but I'd rather have the gain in speed taking that crest flat out because the following corner ("West Bend") is more of an overtaking spot than the corner before the crest.
Not to mention people prefer not trying to overtake or swerve in this section of track for obvious reasons (me included!) so they tend to back off in this corner so they:
1. Can get a good run for the potential overtake at West Bend.
2. Stay out of any accident the car ahead gets into if they spin over the crest.
Plus the "Uphill" corner is quite a fast sweeping corner that doesn't really lend itself to a decent overtake anyway. There isn't really a decent inside line to dive into and you will always lose out if you try a move here.

It depends on the car too, I tended to back off more with the Skip Barber as its a bit more twitchy and sensitive - its harder to get the turn-in before the crest correct everytime in order to straighten up and go flat out. With the MX5 though I can take it flat out pretty much everytime as its relatively easy to chuck that car in the corners.

I've won a couple of races in MX5 at Lime Rock using that technique and held quite a few people off doing it too, even when they are much faster over the lap. Lime Rock is (to me) an incredibly easy place to defend positions if you pick the right lines and cover the right spots. Its just about not making mistakes.

All I know is I hate to be midfield going through that section of track on lap 1 as someone always gets greedy and drops it there.

Yeah I take a bit of an unorthodox line in there too, but it works, watch for the tree on the left, then I lift a bit and turn in and stand on it when I straighten out. That tree is there in real life, its a great land mark!

Made a LOT of progress yesterday night, the first race sucked because going into the back straight on lap 1 some moron decided to go 3 wide ahead of me and crash out himself and the other 2 cars, in trying to avoid I got clipped and pushed into the wall. Second race though I started at the back, avoided the inevitable first lap shenanigans, and other than getting rearended by some idiot, I had 0 incidents. The best part, I was 9th after the first lap, and slowly but surely people dropped off, crashed or whatever, by the final lap I was in 4th and on the bumper of the 3rd place guy. I had a great run on him coming on to the front straightaway, and then murphys law took over and I didn't push the clutch in far enough so I missed the shift to 5th, lost 3rd place by .361 . But hey its progress, my average laps got better and better (averaged a 1:03, fast was a 1:01).

Pit Crew
2 hour league event at Nuringburd Ring Day to Night 100% wet track (never stopped raining) LMP cars. I struggled through the night cycle and made a pit mistake that had me fighting my car and the course for what felt like an eternity. I was so drained.
When light returned I turned it up but my tires were about finished, however the pack was right in front of me and radio chatter suggested leaders were pitting. I did too but got just enuff fuel and ensured I had intermediate tires on then headed out for last five laps

IT was crazy by last lap, Pits closed, spinning cars all over track, drivers "mowing" grass with their cars, obscenities being spewed out from all over, sweaty palms and a last lap, no friends mentality that lead to a third place finish and weak knees when I stood up. Cant wait till Saturday.

This thread is for iRacing...
