Had my first win in the Ford GT today, a wins a win but I didn't really earn it. It was the 25 minute Proto/GT race on Suzuka, I started 3rd out of 5 in class. On the pace lap, going into the final chicane, second place takes out 1st place as soon as the green flag drops, spins and collects 4th and just tags me. I continue on my way and only myself and 5th place got through, so I'm not pushing it to much as I'm taking a good 1-2 seconds per lap out of the person now in 2nd place and he eventually gets taken out by an LMP and I just end up running a consistent pace and winning by over a lap.. I'm pretty happy to get that monkey off my back, but I would have preferred a little bit of a closer race. Also the person who started the whole incident had the lowest IR I've ever seen, 88.. It's not right to judge someone based on their IR but you figure they'd sit back after awhile and see what they're doing wrong..

Raced in a hosted oval race yesterday. Very fair close race, with a very close finish.

Me and the 2nd position guy pulled our a 5 second gap on the rest of the field then 2 laps from the end the caution came out so it closed things up a little.:)

Here's the results.

Had my first ever star mazda race tonight at Watkins Glen, I started 13th and managed to avoid the T1 wreck and gain a few places to end the 1st lap 8th. I had a great battle with a couple guys for a few laps before I made a neat pass at the end of the strait, and again into turn 1. I then started chasing down the cars ahead, and made a few clean passes to get into a comfortable 4th with a few laps left. Then suddenly the leader crashed on his own with 4 to go, and I inherited 3rd place. Not bad for my first race with the car. I ran an average lap time of 1:43.2, and only got 1 off track.

Did my first race whit the Mclaren. I miss some pace for now. I have trouble whit braking/downshifting for some reason. I was in the middle of the field eventhough my pace is not that great. Before halfway i got 2x divebombed whitout a sorry. So i could race whit a damaged car the whole race. I had more fun at oval racing this week. :)

I have some mixed feeling right now. I was doing the Street Stock race at Charlotte and I got the most inc points since I joined with 12. I got into a big wreck where 3 cars got together blocking the whole track. The only place available was the apron but with cars behind me I had nowhere to go but into the wreck. I lost .07 sr and I gained some iRating. Finished in 6th when I started in 17th.

Sad thing is these are the same people I have raced with the last couple of races and each one I have to avoid some wreck. I couldn't avoid the wreck the last two races.

second race got a bit better. On the warm-up two cars hit eachother in the the first chicane. I slammed the brakes to avoid but the car behind me didn't and hit me. Lucky not to much damage. From there one the race started. The guys infront of me were too fast the guys behind me to slow. So i didn't had any action :nervous: at 75% of the race it got a bit tired. over 30 cars on the grid and i didn't see one around me in 45 minute race...:dopey:

Had my first race where I ran out of fuel on the last lap! Embarrassing! After they changed to shorter race distances for the Star Mazda, its really screwed up the fuel loads. I did practice earlier in the week and felt I could get away with 4 gallons of fuel.
Well I almost managed it but got told 6 laps before the end I approximately only had fuel for 5 laps left. I started doing all the usual techniques - short shifting and coasting before the braking zones while managing the gap behind.

But alas I ran out about 6 corners before the end. Dropping from 2nd to 6th.
Crying shame really as I started about 9th and ripped through the field. Seems a lot of people have been qualifying with a slipstream as its odd how so many people qualify so well yet struggle to maintain a race pace - or at least struggle with race craft.

Ah well, at least I managed to make 3 gallons work at Okayama.

Frustrating yes, But Its nothing to be embarrassing about. I bet most of us got out of fuel atleast once in there career.

The fuel estimated is a nice tool. But for some cars the estimated fuel use is miles off. Even that much i hardly can say its estimated. Like for the mclaren at zolder you need to have twice as much fuel. Its like its got a leak or something...

 I ran out of fuel exactly at he S/F line in the Mclaren @ Spa - I didn't even get to turn 1. The final 2 laps were run with the engine map at 2, lots of short shifting and a coast from Blanchimont to the final chicane. Cost me a few spots but it was kind of fun to try to make it knowing I was so close to empty.

Kramer pulled off something like that in a Seinfeld episode once :D

Just got my Internet back up this morning. Decided I'd do the grand touring cup at Brands Hatch because I knew it would be easy to get hang off.

Started in 2nd place and was less than a tenth from pole man so knew we could be in for a good battle. It was nose to tail lap after lap. Had a few looks at an overtake but just couldn't pull one off that would be safe. We were down to 4 mins of race left and I knew I needed to make something happen. I got an amazing run on him through Sheene curve and got alongside him for next left. He had to yield. I was through with only 2 laps to go. I was buzzing at this stage. I had been patient whole race and took my chance.

On lastlap he was about 1 second behind as I approached a back marker. I caught the back marker in wrong place (penultimate corner!) which slowed me up. Ruben was now right on me. I moved right over to right hand side so he couldn't go up my inside. I thought okay he will go way left and try and get a run on me to the line seeing as I was holding to the defensive line but no he was right behind me on defensive line. I was like great he won't get past! He proceeded to use me as his brake a punt me straight on into the barrier.. What is the point? Why!!?

I never use the estimated fuel, I always drive laps in practice to gauge fuel consumption. Normally I try and run a race distance with what I guess is about right and make adjustments when I run out of fuel.
This time I didn't run a race simulation, I just ran with as little fuel as possible in qualifying and used that to gauge fuel consumption. Normally thats fine but as I say, the new shorter race distances have messed up my guesstimations.

Forgot to get my B license for the Proto+GT challenge at Spa this week so I've resulted to the MX5 at Laguna. Was the first time driving the MX5 for some months and I hadn't tried it since before the steering update.

Had about an hour practice, 1 quali session and started 2nd. The front guy's time wasn't far off of mine so I wasn't fussed. The lights go green and catch me out so I get too much wheelspin off the line, but the guy in 3rd just ROCKETS passed me and nearly even takes the guy in 1st down to the first corner. The guy in 3rd is a guy called Omar and he was all over the guy in front. So I'm hanging back (or trying like hell to keep up, even with the slipstream, which ever way you want to put it :sly:) and the 1st guy catches some dirt at turn 6 going up the hill. So now I'm in 2nd behind this Omar guy. And bloody hell, apart from turn 5, there was no corner I could beat him on.

I'm still getting used to the MX5 again and adjusting to my T500 brake pedal but the guy's a robot. Seriously! I think one time he took 3 tenths out of me just at the corkscrew. I don't think his lap times varied by more than 2 tenths for 7-8 laps.

Glad to see you met Omar Sòto then! That guy has an iRating of over 7100. I have drove with him a couple of times in some of the higher series and he is pretty damn quick in them too.

I wouldn't feel to fussed though. He is a MX5 regular, and a bloody fast one at that.

Second race against him. I start 1st and don't get a great start again, but ya know, decent. He's more than 1 car length ahead of me by turn 1.

I've always wondered if say your somebody like Gregor Huttu (Arguably one of the fastest and most famous iRacers) with over 8000 iRating. If he were in a SOF race of 2000 and he won would he lose iRating?

Just had a great race in the inRacing News Challenge, I was battling for the lead the entire race, going door to door, showing my nose, etc and just couldn't get past, it was such a clean fun race. I finished 2nd so I'm happy about that, but I couldn't get by and take the win, so I'm not happy about that, but this is why I race on iRacing, for fantastic racing like the one I just had.. I'll have my "revenge". Or maybe I'll just start my own Youtube channel and call him out.. ;)

I was thinking to have a fun race today in Mclaren at watkins glen. There were around 28 cars in total and 21 Mclarens. I was in the midfield when 2 cars hit eachother in chicane fast chicane. What happend was a crash whit 17 cars. After 8minutes+ in the pits my optional and required repairs where done but still i had steering damage. Even though i couldn't have a race pace and saw everyone lap me and i ended on 8th place

^^ The GT challenge races at Watkins (McLaren) have been the most fun I've ever had in iRacing. I keep making silly mistakes that cost me a ton of SR and iR but after each one I'm dying to get to another :D

One of the races I was in yesterday had me was running in 2 separate groups of 5+ drivers for the entire race until disaster struck. An early spin (Silly throttle error) took me from 3rd to 15th and I had fought back to 6th before Java decided to update itself with 7 laps to go (I turned off updating, but it still did it :grumpy: - evidently game booster cannot stop it either) and that was the end for me due to massive damage. Fortunately I didn't hit anyone when it happened.
I was right on the tail of so many drivers in the race - making a total mess of my windshield  It was awesome!!!!!

My luck has been pretty bad (one race started with no sound - exit during formation lap / reboot / re-join 2 laps down :()- but almost always due to pushing the car towards the end in order to maintain a battle or hunt down the next driver. I do realize that finishing in my current position is better than crashing and burning, but fun is fun, and the racing I've had more than makes up for the poor results.
I'm going to miss this track so bad after this weekend - it's my first time racing here in any series. I wish I had started racing it earlier in the week.

If I have two more clean races in the MX-5, I should be prepared for rookie promotions tomorrow. I really do hate the Mx-5 at Laguna Seca. People can't really drive consistently on this track (I include myself in this). People overdrive and go into the sand and then come back onto the track as if nobody is there. Most of the time it results in more carnage and more angry people. I feel like a car magnet because someone always finds a way to come into me.

You need to do it in a special way Hydro.

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/javacpl.xml

If you don't do it it just wont save it. Lucky me found a way to not even have Java installed. But this link will help you.

Just remember this is a old link so you need to change point 4.. jre6 need to be jre7.

I tried that before - it happened once before where I lost a race with 3 laps to go and you provided the link that time as well.
When I run the command (as administrator) there is no option regarding updating or preferences for updating. I read that it's apparently a Win7 64 bit thing (that's where I abandoned the search for answers last time). There is nothing anywhere on my computer that allows for java update control as far as I'm aware.
There may be the option to never look for updates when installed so I'm going to remove java entirely and re-install to see if that does it.

Edit:
Java
Note: At this time, Online Installation and Java Update features are not available for 64-bit architectures. This means that you will not see an Update tab as part of the Java Control Panel.

I think I'll just abandon the 64-bit version and stick to 32 bit browsers as that would seemingly fix the problem.

Finnaly i had a REAL road RACE since a very long time.

My third attempt whit the Mclaren GT. Starting again somewhere at the back on the field. Again the first laps is all about not get caught by lunatics on wheels and avoiding wrecks. like one car parked at the middle of the bustop chicane. When i came near the guy tried to turn around. I locked-up the brakes when i nearly came to a stop against the parked car but i could turn my car away whitout hitting the grass. It cost me alot of places and i i was just happy id did not make contact. at the next turn somebody hit me sleightly (the replay shows no contact) but it was enough to give me agains steering damage. in 3 full races of 45 minutes i only did 4 laps whitout damage. Lucky this time the car was still drivable. After those Noobies wrecked there car's i was in 14th place, my race started.

I had 4 cars in front of me. I was slow but becaus those cars were in battle i could hang-on. I started to get more confident and could put some more pressure on it. After a while 2 cars made contact and i could avoid them but i lost +-10 seconds on the other 2 cars ahead. I closed the gap and watched them battle untill one car did go a bit wide in the bustop i just drove by. However my tyres were slipping away, my confidence in ca/track and own ability grown and put the pressure one the last car. Eventually i did overtake them clean in the first corner. It has been a long time ago that i actually placed a succesfull overtake on someone that didn't make a mistake.
Previous season my wheel problems made that to dangerous to risk something like that.

Anyway if i can keep avoid wrecks at this league the Mclaren GT is a pretty awesome car.

I'm sorry, but I can't remember providing you with that link, I did however give it away in the team thread here on this forum. I didn't knew you read it ;)

Anyway, I never tried to disable the auto update, I just changed the schedule to a time I knew I wasn't going to race. Like when I sleep. And I have never ever been getting my race ruined by Java update.

I wouldn't turn the update off as it has to be the most buggy thing since Windows Vista.

Edit:

I cant really see how this will fix your problem, both versions will try to update, but maybe it's something i don't get. But good luck anyway.

Best solution should be to deactivate the entire program, and activate when you need it. I use two web sites regularly that use Java. One I use about one or two times pr month and the other one.. Once a year. So I have no problem activating it when I need it. On my gaming rig I even uninstalled it as I never visit any page needing it.

Unfortunately I need java for remote connections so I have to have it on at all times. The 64 bit version cannot be scheduled in any way from what I can see and have read. I just re-installed the 32-bit version and set it to sunday updates at 2am. That should do the trick - thanks for the links, I wouldn't have found the answer had I not followed the trail from there 👍

On a much better note my last race was 1 second off my first GT win in the MP4!
http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/EventResult.do?&subsessionid=7597715&custid=110474
I was ~2 seconds or less behind the leader the entire race (another horribly messed up windshield - might have to turn the feature off - new video card installed yesterday ) and only 2 vettes lapped us on the final lap.
The gap was down to less than 1 second for the final laps - If only there was 5 more minutes :D

oh can put the dirt of the windshield off :dunce:

Isn't that cheating....in a way :indiff:

Well then by default I've been cheating the entire time due to lesser equipment :sly:
What I really need to do is get better at passing so it isn't a problem in the future . It's such a cool effect I really can't see me turning it off - plus I think it would remove other graphics options and as-is I'm very, very happy with my current setup.
